Term: Abrasion

A sore on the scalp or the skin that is caused by scraping, scratching or wearing away. Professionals caution against applying chemical treatments or other harsh hair care products to a scalp or skin near the hairline which has an open scratch, sore or related abrasion. An abrasion may cause partial or complete absence of hair from areas. Sometimes tiny abrasions can occur from over vigorous scalp massage where the fingernails are used.
