Scoop

I'll start with some scoopage on which the expiration date has long since expired.  I'm only including it because the info is still just as current and it kind of falls into that weird nether region between Scoop and Did Ya Know?  In a chat with TVGUIDE Online  back in January (told you it was old), "V.I.P."'s NATALIE RAITANO was asked why she cut her hair so short.  She said...

I just decided to get it cut like this because I just had an everyday, girl from back East, big hair from Pittsburgh haircut. A guy who worked at the gym that I worked at, he worked at the boutique in the gym, and he said, 'Girl, you need to get into the nineties and stop teasing your hair.' He got me the appointment, brought pictures in of what I should get my hair cut like, brought me into the stylist, and I've been going there every since. That was three years ago. And I love it cause it's easy!
Ok, two things come to mind here (doesn't it always seem to be two things?): 1) Try as I might, I can NOT picture Natalie with big mall hair and 2) how the heck did that scenario play out without this guy getting sued for sexual harassment?  Wait, I think I know...

Continuing on the short hair theme, USA Weekend asked KERI RUSSELL how she feels about lopping off her curls these days...

I love it. It's so liberating in the most acute way. I never imagined that a hair cut could really alter your personality, but there is an honesty that is not there when you have long hair, because I think you can hide a lot. I think it is really easy to slump your shoulders and hide and laugh and fling your hair. There is this openness and this reality that I didn't know before. It is a really cool adjustment.
All you wears of long hair can direct your hate mail to Keri Russell, c/o The WB.  You know, even though Keri sees the haircut an opening to explore her sense of self and possibly achieve a new level personal understanding and awareness, it doesn't change the fact that it still looks like crap.

"Suddenly Susan"'s KATHY GRIFFIN hosted the Billboard Music Awards the other night.  Whereas some stars make bizarre demands for things like bowls of M&Ms with all the brown ones picked out in their dressing room, Kathy went, shall we say, a different route...

"My hair's fake. I have fake hair! I had to have it glued in. It was $1,200, and there was this big stink. Billboard didn't want to pay for it, and I said, "I'm going to walk unless you buy me this hair!" And so now, I have this fake hair!"
So that explains the Cher-like red mane she was sporting.  Doesn't explain why her bangs seem to start about the middle of her head now, though.  I mean, what's up with that?

If you've seen "Being John Malkovich", you've probably noticed that CAMERON DIAZ doesn't look quite herself in playing Lottie, wife of Craig (John Cusak), in the movie.  Ok, as you can see from the picture, she looks pretty damn scary.  How did they do it you ask?  Well, according to a USA Today interview with Gucci Westerman, the makeup artist for the movie...

"I let her eyebrows grow in and added extra (hair) so they would look untamed and unruly. We used no powder or foundation, brown contacts, dyed her hair brown and added long, frizzy wigs." A tiny press-on tooth cap made Diaz's Chiclet grin look less picture-perfect. What did Diaz think? "She loved it; she was totally into it. It was her first real character part."
Ok, now try getting that picture out of your head by repeating "Cameron Diaz in 'Charlie's Angels'" over and over to yourself...

Fleature: Bai Ling's Haircut

Well, much like last month's article allowed me to finally but a bow on my ongoing coverage of Joely Fisher's haircut, I have an article that pretty much makes a nice summary and epilogue of BAI LING being shorn for "Anna and the King".  Once again, credit goes to Dan P. and his scans from InStyle magazine.  As before, to get to each page, click on the thumbnail of it below.  I will warn you that the full pages are large (79Kb, 48Kb, and 188Kb respectively), so they will take a while to download on slower connections.  I do, however, think that if you have the time to do it, it's definitely worth the effort.  Then again, I wouldn't have included them if I thought it was a waste of time, now would I?  Enjoy.
