First a quick note on FAITH
HILL:
I
just love faith's hair long or short. the pic with the extensions was nice,
but the other pic of the shoulder length was great. I would love for my
hair to look like that. But, she did look really sophisticated with the
short hair. She was on TNN and said her hair got really fried with all
the coloring and stuff and so she cut lots of it off to get to the healthy
stuff. how great is that, to make such a fashion statement with your short
cut when you're just trying to get to the healthy stuff! J
-Peggy R
Thanks for the tidbit on why she
went super short, Peggy. I guess it was a very happy coincidence
for Faith that short hair looks great on her!

Next, we go to the subject of last month's Did
Ya Know?, SUZY AMIS:
Okay,
Suzie Amis...she looks like a weather beaten-seventies-Cheryl Tiegs. She
looked terrible in Titanic. I find it very hard to believe that she was
a model, however taste in models always surprises me. I thought that Cameron
picked her up off the street. It was very unrealistic that someone as full
and warm as Rose (Winslett) could have posterity as withered and melanoma-ish
as whoever the name of that character was (Amis.)
- J'Lyn S.
Ouch, that's gonna leave a mark....

Next we come to letter where a helpful reader attempted
to straighten out my confused, babbling review of VONDA
SHEPARD's shorter hair:
Hi Flea,
Regarding
Vonda Shepard; you're right. The new "do" "doesn't" because, IMO, it creates
a visual triangle that accents her angular features. The new look makes
me visually dissect her facial features; now noticing the angles of her
eyebrows, nose and chin. The "before" is soft; and the length/weight more
evenly distributed around her face; causing it to appear more oval and
feminine; showcasing her bright eyes and lovely smile.
- Jan B.
Wow. Excellent analysis of Vonda, Jan. Makes a lot of
sense and puts into coherent thought the vague feeling that it just didn't
look right that I couldn't articulate. I feel better now.

Next, a few more on LAUREN
HOLLY, but with a bit of a different spin:
On
another note, I saw last nights episode of ("Chicago Hope") (nov.11th)
and wondered who the blond with the bad hair extensions was. I knew I had
seen her before but couldn't place the face. I thought to myself "Jerkyflea
would know!" To my surprise it was Lauren Holly. What the hell was she
thinking? She looked like a really bad Stevie Nicks Halloween costume.
And what was with the black eyeliner? UUUUGH!!!! I can't believe she went
on national TV looking like that!
-Mary N.
I
*think* I know what it is that bothers everyone with Lauren Holly. On "Chicago
Hope", she has W-a-a-y-y too much black liner on her eyes (..really? she's
got eyes? Where? :), w-a-a-y-y too dark of lipstick for her complexion,
and she has fried herself in the tanner. How do I know it's a tanner and
not anything else? Patches of red. Being a former skin-scorcher myself,
her skin looks like it's dying for a drink of H2O. That makes her beauty
(and she's quite pretty) kinda fade ... when I look at her all I see is
2 black eyes and a tanner burn. Oh, and the curls have got to go.
They're too inconsistent (see
straight ends - ick). If she's gonna do the curls thing, do it Debra Messing
style. Just my $.02 worth.
-Wendy
Kudos
(jeez, never thought I'd write that word) on your column this month! I'm
going to grudgingly (and is that an actual word?) retract my observations
of Lauren Holly. Well, almost. It seems that she may have stumbled into
some flattering lighting on "Chicago Hope", at least in the clip I saw.
She looked pretty. As you stated, we'll just have to keep watching.
-Shannon M
To be honest, I was kinda wondering about the rather
intense black eyeliner myself. I mean, what's she doing after the
show, playing center field for the Dodgers? Doesn't change the fact
that I think her hair looks great though. Hey, I convinced Shannon,
didn't I?

And finally, a couple of points on GWEN
STEFANI and BRITNEY
SPEARS from Suezen1:
I
have to disagree with you and your analysis on Gwen Stefani. I live in
NYC, I don't know where you're writing from but it seems like LA to me!
That whole 70's do-farrah-flip is just so played out already. We didn't
need to bring back one of the worst parts of the 70's again. But the color--you
are dead wrong. The color is GREAT. Why is everyone so scared to try something
wild, if not for just a little while? She's a rock singer and if she isn't
allowed to do it, who is? C'mon, stop being so rigid with your beliefs
of what's fashionable/hip/stylish, etc. The PINK is the BEST part.
Where is your sense of humor?
It's not like she's going to keep it pink for very long. Next time she
performs it may be baby blue or chartreuse. Why not? You only live once.
A la Audrey Hepburn role, "Think Pink"!
Well, let's see, let me sort of go in order here:
-
I'm not in LA.
-
The 70s Farrah-look is coming back (for better or worse)
with a 90s twist whether you like it or not (though it may be passé in
NYC already, since they are always several months ahead of the curve).
-
I don't want the 70s to come back either, but the 80s
would be cool. =)
-
Wait,
this next section goes kinda fast. Let's see, I'm wrong on the color,
rigid, and have no sense of humor. Yowch.
J
Hey, I can accept that she's a rocker and can do whatever the heck she
wants and reviewing her hair is probably as practical as reviewing Courtney
Love's. That doesn't change that fact that it's not only still pink,
but has been for 3 months. And I still don't like it. Plus,
she's once again cut a large thick section of bangs in the front, so she's
probably abandoning the feathered look anyway.
-
Audrey Hepburn said "Think Pink?" I thought that
was Owens-Corning Fiberglass Insulation.
Ok, back to the rest of the letter...
One
more thing. Not that I want to spend any time thinking or talking about
Britney Spears EITHER, LORD KNOWS, but her hair looks better shorter and
blonder. Just tonight (12/8/99) I saw her on the Billboard Music Awards
on Fox 5 and her hair was shoulder length blunt cut STRAIGHT and Blond
and it looked (as much as I hate to admit it) great! I'd even venture to
say that I'd like my hair cut that way. Can you manage to get a picture
of it and put it on your site? Is it blunt with a few layers or no layers
at all?!? I couldn't tell because the chick didn't stop moving for not
a second. Can you find out who cut it? Please investigate for me, I'd appreciate
it.
Oh, c'mon, do I have to? I really don't wanna.
None of the other kids mom's make them talk about celebrity hair that they
don't want to! No, that's stupid, who would jump off a cliff just
because everyone else did? A lemming? What's a lemming?
Ok, fine!
Here's a picture, though I'm not sure who cut it.
There are some long layers cut throughout, though just enough to allow some
additional fullness when she goes wavy, but not enough to disrupt the blunt
look when straight.
There! Are you happy now? I'm going to
my room to pout.

OK, how about hate? Have comment on something I wrote? Just
want to see if you are up to the challenge of writing something that will
pass the rigid Fleamail screening process and make it into the next
column?
