Term: Curly Hair Root Volume Diffuse Drying Tips

One of the more popular ways to blow dry naturally curly hair is with a long finger diffuser attachment added to a traditional blow dryer.

The concept behind the long finger diffusers is that it helps to gently diffuse air through the curls allowing the natural curl patterns and clumps to form. Regular hairdryers may direct too much air through curls breaking down the curl pattenrs as the air dries the hair.

Although long finger diffusers do a great job for many curly haired people, if the curls are shoulder length or longer there may be a loss of fullness and volume at the roots due to the fact the curls weigh down the hair and pull the roots flatter.

Where there is lots of volume through the middle and ends of curly hair but no volume at the roots the resulting styling is like a triangle.

All hair is flatter at the scalp because the weight of the hair and how it grows from the scalp.

Techniques used to add root volume to curly strands when diffuse drying involves application of fast drying and fast acting root lift products like Phytovolume Actif or similar. This adds fullness and more definition at the root so it can stand up better and expand more to work with all of the volume along the length of the strand.

Other root volume enhancing tricks involve using strategically placed clips to separate and lift roots strands allowing them to dry so that the roots are directed up and not allowed to lay flat.

The key is to either use clips or fingers to lift individual root sections, mist with root volumizing product and dry without pulling too hard.
