The late great John Sahag is often credited for turning the spotlight on the advantages of dry hair cutting. Sahag told Good Housekeeping magazine in 2003 "when a stylist works with dry hair, he can see exactly how the layers will fall and which pieces will stand out."

The late New York City salon own was famous for his dry hair cuts on Julianne Moore, Kim Cattrall and Rebecca Romijn. Sahag built in texture as he cut the hair of the many famous celebrities who adored the dry hair cutting pioneer.

Luckily Sahag trained all of his apprentices in the art of dry hair cutting which has helped maintain the technique. The majority of women still get their hair cut wet rather than dry.

Advantages to dry hair cutting? Sahag said "i'ts a more precise way of getting the desired texture." Dry cutting is ideal for blonde or other light colored hair, which can be almost invisible when wet.

Dry hair cutting is also popular for people with natural textured hair such as naturally curly, kinky or mixed textured. It also works well on some types of wavy hair. It also works well on thick or very thick hair which tends to be bulky.
