Curly Hair Jelly – Aubrey Organics Ginkgo Leaf & Ginseng Root Hair Moisturizing Jelly

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Aubrey Organics – Ginkgo Leaf & Ginseng Root Hair Moisturizing Jelly

This product is all natural and is designed to keep frizz at bay without being sticky, stiff or gooey.  Although it’s described as a jelly it’s more like a gel than anything else.

While the product is often recommended for people with naturally curly hair which falls in the 3C, 4A or 4B categories it does not work for all people all of the time.

Product Description
Mandarin Magic Ginkgo Leaf & Ginseng Root Hair Moisturizing Jelly.

Eight hair-nourishing Chinese herbals, plus hair-thickening vitamin B-5 and herbal gums add up to one superb styling product that moisturizes as it holds. Adds body and shine without weighing down the hair.

Directions
After shampoo, dry hair until damp. Pour a quarter-sized dollop of hair moisturizing jelly into palm. Work through hair and into scalp. Groom hair as usual. (Use more if needed for dry scalp or problem hair and scalp).

Product Reviews

This product is attractive, especially to people with naturally curly hair who wish to go completely natural.  The beauty of Aubrey Organics Ginko Leaf & Ginseng Root Hair Moisturizing Jelly is that it is all natural.  It does not contain any plastics, parabens or silicones.

Some users have found that while the product is useful for creating a light curl definition and shine, it is not as moisturizing as competitive products.  If moisture is your concern you will need to look at other similar products.

One common complaint about this product is that it does tend to flake after it dries.  This is a common problem for gels and jelly products.  The aroma is fresh with a clean orange-like scent.  It does contain good hair slip.  This gel-like product is very light and hair tends to dry smooth not sticky.  It also tends to create a wet look on hair so if you want a fluffier look this product may not work for you.

One initial challenge is learning to use just a small amount.  A little bit goes a very long way.  Depending on the type, texture, length and condition of your hair a little bit goes a very long way.

Ingredients

Water, Panthenol (Vitamin B-5), Aloe Vera Gel, Tragacanth and Gum Arabic Blend, Ginkgo Leaf, Ginseng Root, Chinese Magnolia Blossoms, Chinese Angelica, Chrysanthemum, Earth Smoke, Morus Root, Mandarin Orange Peel, Aubrey’s Preservative (Citrus Seed Extract, Vitamins A, C and E).

Where To Buy

A Homemade Hair Care Recipe Guide

Friday, July 30th, 2010

I’ve been making homemade hair care products since I was in grade school.

My very first homemade hair care recipe was a fresh lemon juice spritz applied to my hair before I sat in the sun.

Did my lemon blonding recipe work?  Nope.  Not only did it not lighten my tresses, it actually dried them to a crisp.

Although many people recommend lemon for lightening hair, it doesn’t work.

In some cases such as hair lightening there may not be a homemade hair care recipe.  Homemade recipes are not necessarily the end all and the be all of hair care.  It wish I could say it was, but it isn’t. (more…)

Acupuncture Treatments For Croup, Bronchitis Or Other Chronic Lung Problems

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

As a baby I suffered from croup which at first appearance freaked my parents completely out.  Croup continued to haunt me every Spring and Fall for years.  Some years it thankfully passed me by.

(Image from Wikipedia showing lungs with the steeple sign as seen on an AP neck X-ray of a child with croup – All Rights Reserved)

When I was a senior in high school it returned with a vengeance although the medical doctors deemed it a viral lung infection rather than croup. It felt like croup, it sounded like croup and a cool vaporizer helped me breathe like it did when I had croup as a child.  But it was not called croup by the doctors.

Regardless, I had the barking cough and the symptoms worsening at night along with difficulty breathing.  As a result I came very close to missing my senior Prom because my doctor advised my parents to not let me go out into the night air until I was completely fever and cough free.  Luckily I managed to recover with only 2 days to spare.

From that point forward I never really got a head cold.  I always caught a chest cold which closely resembled croup although my doctors told me you can’t really get croup after you’re a baby or a child.  Is that really true?

Actually it’s not.  Croup is just one type of viral infection. (more…)
