Mid-Back Of The Head, Center And Side Ponytails

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

Ultimately it’s always best to position the base of your ponytail where it’s most comfortable for you.

There are many locations along the head where a ponytail base can be located. No rule exists against wearing a ponytail right at the hairline.

In fact, Suzanne Somers used to wear her blonde ponytail from Three’s Company back from her hairline and to one side.

It became her trademark look even though it was due to her hair getting burned requiring her to wear her quirky pony.

Men often prefer to wear their ponytails low on the head near the nape of the neck. (more…)

Long Haired Pia Toscano’s Shocking Elimination From American Idol

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

From the moment I first heard Pia Toscano sing I had perpetual goosebumps. I had no doubt in my mind that Pia was going to wind up in the top five.

But after tonight’s American Idol (AI) elimination all bets are off in a season which has been filled with shocking twists and turns starting with Casey Abram’s sudden illness and then elimination.

(American Idol Final Nine – Pia Toscano is in the center, front row – Fox/TV – All Rights Reserved)

Abrams was saved by the AI judges in a move which was deemed to be risky since his save was so early in the season.

Indeed, that save has come to bite the AI judges in the rear. Pia Toscano had long lush raven tresses which had a blinding shimmer. She was beautiful and had a body that wouldn’t stop.

Pia Toscano could also sing although she was constantly dinged for only singing ballads. On Wednesday night she broke with her ballad tradition. Afterall, the night was dedicated to rock n roll and Pia embraced the opportunity to sing Tina Turner’s ‘River Deep Mountain High.’ (more…)

Hair How To: Jane Lynch’s Edgy Shag

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

Get Jane Lynch’s Perfect Shag

Nobody out there is rocking the modern shag better than Glee’s Jane Lynch. She definitely made waves when she debuted it on Fox/TV’s popular show.

Since she first appeared on Glee she has fine tuned her buttery blonde tresses into a perfectly textured cut ideal for her role as Coach Sue Sylvester.

Her portrayal of the track suit clad Coach has won her . On the Red Carpets she has shown slightly longer versions or her signature off-the-face shag.

Spring 2011 Version Of The Shag

The key to Jane’s iconic look is a precision haircut combined with the proper hair styling products designed to create a perfect finish.

The Today Show recently reported that for Spring 2011 the shag is back in a big way. The key difference between old versions of the shags and the current version is longer layers around the hairline and in the front. Old versions of the shag by comparison had shorter layers in front and shorter in the back. Hair How To: Adrianne Palicki’s Sleek Shiny Bone Straight Long Hairstyle

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Adrianne Palicki has experienced a dramatic hair color journey during her acting career.

Palicki (born May 6, 1983) is best known for her role as the platinum blonde Tyra Collette on the NBC television series Friday Night Lights. She was a series regular for the first three seasons of the acclaimed show. Palicki left the series to appear in films, but returned to appear in the final two episodes of the series.

When she returned for the last two episodes of Friday Night Lights we came back as a dark cherry kissed brunette. It was hard to believe it was the same Tyra Collette. What happened to her platinum blonde tresses?

When Palicki left to co-star opposite Lucas Black in “Legion” her role called for her to be a brunette. She also starred in Fox/TV’s “Lone Star” in which her hair was also dark chocolate. Sadly “Lone Star” was canceled after just two episodes but she kept the dark hued tresses.

On February 16, 2011, it was announced that a still sultry brunette hue Palicki was selected to portray Wonder Woman in David E. Kelley’s adaptation for NBC. It appears her days as a blonde are over. At least for now. (more…)

Tips For Before You Go To The Salon From Fantastic Sams

Tips For Before You Go To The Salon from Fantastic Sams

There’s nothing worse then leaving the hair salon and not getting what you asked for. To insure this doesn’t happen to you, simply follow these easy tips from Fantastic Sams master stylist Pat Padilla:

1. Bring your stylist a picture of the hair style you are trying to achieve. According to Padilla, “it’s best if you have the front and the back view of the cut. If it is possible take the face out of the picture. Most people like the face a lot more than the actual hair style.”

2. “If you are going for a drastic change, let your family know what to expect when you walk through the door. Change is very hard for some family members,” advises Padilla.

3. “Always have an idea on how much you are willing to spend before you go into the salon. You will probably need to buy hair product to produce the style at home the next day which can also get expensive.”

4. Lastly, always consult with your stylist on how long it will take you to recreate the same look at home. As Padilla warns, “Woman today don’t realize that some styles are high maintenance. Most women don’t have an hour to spend on their hair.”

American Idol Sends Naima Adedapo And Thia Megia Packing

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

In a dramatic gesture last week by the American Idol (AI) judges Casey Abrams was sparred final elimination. Abrams was as shocked as everyone else that Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler used their one save of the season to keep Abrams. Ironically their save was relatively early in the AI season.

On Wednesday’s show a sober Casey Abrams who has had a haircut and a shave was told by Jennifer that she didn’t regret saving Abrams and was happy she did so. The audience seems to love Abrams but it was the audience votes that put him at the very bottom last week.

As a result of Abrams save last week, two AI contestants had to go home this week. The women continued to fall on the sword with a dreadlocked Naima Adedapo and a long haired Thia Megia being sent home.

Although I was sad to see two more women go, I wasn’t surprised at all after watching the March 30th performances. Adedapo applied a reggae twist to an Elton John classic song which the judges didn’t go wild over. Megia also left a lot to be desired with her rendition of a John son. America made the correct choices. I actually was surprised Adedapo lasted as long as she did. How To Hair: Victoria Justice’s Barely There Waves

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

When it comes to her long, naturally straight chocolate brown hair Victoria Justice is not fussy. She told Nickutopia “I’m not one of those people that spends a lot of money on beauty products. I like going to drug stores and getting that kind of stuff. I blow dry my bangs with a round brush! You don’t want your hair to look flat, but at the same time, I like when it looks really natural!”

Teen superstar Victoria is up against Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Miranda Cosgrove at the April 2nd Kids Choice Awards, but in some circles the star of Nickelodeon’s Victorious is considered the one with the very best hair. Of course others would vehemently disagree.

Although Victoria alternates between bone straight strands and soft beachy waves, her own natural tresses are medium thick and naturally straight.

Hair How To – Step By Step – Recreate Victoria’s Hairstyle

To achieve Victoria’s barely there waves follow the steps below:

1. Cleanse your hair in the shower using your preferred methodology and hair products which are best for your hair type, texture, length and current condition.
2. Rinse well and apply a light moisturizing rinse out conditioner from the ears down to the ends. Use fingers and hair friendly comb to detangle. (more…)

Hair How To: Cate Blanchett’s Short Chic Choppy Blonde Haircut

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

Actress Cate Blanchett is famous for being unpredictable and a true hair rebel. She’s worked with some of the best celebrity hairstylists in the work including Danilo and Mark Townsend who enjoy working with the trend setter.

Danilo has said about Cate “She looks incredible with long hair, short hair, a dark wig.”

Townsend has said “She always wants to do the opposite” with her hair compared to the current trends. He noted “If someone’s wearing a couture gown with her hair up, she (Cate) wants to wear hers down.”

She will constantly surprise on the red carpet going with an elaborate updo or simply tousled bedhead hair. With Cate you just never know what her hair mood will be. Indeed Blanchett has been a redhead, brunette and blonde at various times in her esteemed acting career.

Hair How To: Copy Cate’s Platinum Blonde Short Choppy Hairstyle

If you want to copy Cate’s latest platinum blonde short choppy hairstyle ask your stylist for an asymmetrical and wispy short hair cut. This haircut can be modified to work with most face shapes, hair types and even natural textures.

An image speaks a thousand words. To make sure your stylist understands the haircut you desire, print out and take a few large sized images of Cate showing the front, sides and back of her hairstyle. Ask your hairstylist if the haircut would work with your hair type, texture, length and current condition. Lady Gaga’s Chemical Haircut Highlights Known Bleaching And Blonding Challenges

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

Pop star Lady Gaga, aka Stefani Germanotta, has admitted to People.com that her trademark white blonde hair is falling out because of constant dyeing and bleaching.

The superstar performer said “I have to get a chemical haircut because my blonde hair is falling out”. Lady Gaga is a natural brunette but has spent many years dyeing her hair blonde.

Hair Problems Due To Excessive Dying And Bleaching

While anything Lady Gaga does with her hair, make-up, body or fashions sets the world on fire, her confession of blonde hair trauma is nothing new. Many celebrities from Paris Hilton to Christina Aguilera have suffered through bouts of hair problems as a result of excessive drying and bleaching.

Although Lady Gaga’s hair hues range from start white blonde to a mixture of eggnog, egg yolk and ashy gray blonde, it’s hard to know exactly how dark her natural brunette shade it. The darker her natural brunette hue, the stronger the dye that has to be used to pop open the cuticle and lift the color to a light white.
