Avante-Garde Bridal Hairstyle How To

If you have your heart on a big bridal statement gown then balance it with big beautiful bridal hair.  One of the hottest bridal hairstyles is a modern structured take on The French Twist except with more height and drama than ever before.

This updo hairstyle works spectacularly with a strapless bridal gown because it elongates the neck, adds instant sophistication, and empowers the bride’s form while nodding to classic avant-garde looks.

Step By Step Bridal Hairstyle How To

Get this look by first cleansing hair in lukewarm water with your favorite program ranging from full shampoo to diluted shampoo (DS), low poo, Conditioner Only (CO) or Water Only (WO).

Rinse well and then apply rinse-out conditioner to detangle with wide tooth comb or fingers while in the shower.  Finish with a cool to cold water rinse.

Towel blot and apply styling cocktail including leave-in conditioner, defrisant and styling gel.  Separate hair into 8 horizontal section.  Finger blow-dry each section with a boar’s bristle paddle or round brush until 100% dry.  Finish with a blast of cool air to close cuticle. (more…)

Best Prom 2011 Hairstyles – How To Copy Reese Witherspoon Hair At Oscars

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Even as the stars were strolling down the Red Carpet at the recent 2011 Academy Awards fashionistas were frantically scribbling notes.  Not only were they trying to get all the details about the gown, the jewels, the hair, make-up and shoes, in some cases they were working for companies who are knocking off the gowns.

(Reese Witherspoon at 2011 Academy Awards – DC Media – All Rights Reserved)

Did you read that right?  Yes indeed.  As recently reported on NBC’s Today show, Red Carpet gowns are evaluated for convertibility to the general public and then instantly copied for Proms, weddings and other special events.  Some of the dresses can already be ordered and will be delivered in a matter of weeks.

This information is noteworthy because outfits like Jennifer Hudson wore added up to a cool million dollars for the gown and the accessories and the converted knock-offs usually retail in the hundreds rather than the thousands.

Meanwhile on the hair front, converted Red Carpet hairstyles are key for Spring Prom and Weddings.

If you’re planning your own Prom, Spring Formal or Wedding entrance, why not copy some of the top hairstyles showcased at the 2011 Oscars? (more…)

Beautiful Wedding Hair Knotted Updo

Beautiful Wedding Hair Knotted Updo

Popular bridal hairstyles change according to bridal gown fashions, veil or alternate bridal hair accessory trends and general fashions.  Of course celebrity trends do have a hand in influencing the type of wedding hairstyles which are more popular at a give time.

Even though some bridal hairstyles are more popular then other at various times, brides are advised to select a hairstyle for their wedding day which is most flattering to them.  Not everyone will love every kind of hairstyle for either themselves or even on other brides.

Please note that there is no right or wrong bridal hairstyle.  What’s right is what the bride loves for herself.

Brides should take into consideration their face shape, hair length, hair textures and the type of gown they are wearing.  They should also consider whether their wedding is casual or traditionally formal.

Although some bridal consultants believe that a classic chignon or updo is the ideal hairstyle selection to show off a strapless, low back or sweetheart neckline on a wedding gown, if the bride does not feel comfortable with her hair up, she should definitely select another wedding style.

It’s important to remember that those wedding photos will be around for years to come.  While it’s always a good idea to select a bridal hairstyle that works with the gown, the style of the wedding, the current hairstyle trends and the hair accessories, make sure the groom’s wishes are considered. Easy Dressy Chignon Hairstyle Piled High On For Special Hair Events

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

A traditional chignon pulled up high on top of the head, positioned halfway between the hairline and nape of the neck looks dressy, but is easy to create on tresses which are shoulder length or longer.

If your hair is too short to wrap into a chignon then you can utilize clip-inchignon, a hair extensions, fusion extensions or an clip-in pony.

The bun can be created on most hair textures ranging from stick straight to wavy and curly.   Hair can either be temporarily straightened or worn with natural texture.

For a sleek chignon the hair will need to be smoothed before wrapping.

Hair which is freshly washed will require prepping with hairspray, add-on bun, styling cream or similar to give the strands some grip and pull. (more…)

Curlformers Make Dreams Of Gorgeous Curls Come True

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

I remember the first time I ever heard about Curlformers.  I was sitting in Celeb Hairstylist Robert Hallowell’s LA kitchen in May of 2009.

I was at Robert’s kitchen table drinking tea and he was sprawled out on the floor rooting through his massive refrigerator.  Robert’s precocious cat, Handsome, was prowling the space between Robert and where I sat at his table.  While I peppered him with my normal 1001 hair questions he would answer, stopping periodically to bark “no shopping” at Handsome as the adorable cat launched a sneak attack on some of the food temporarily displaced from the refrigerator.

Curlformers Not Curlfarmers

Robert and I were discussing how to achieve gorgeous curls on wavy tresses.  With his head partially buried inside the bowels of the refrigerator he barked “Curlformers”.   I thought I had misheard him to say Curlfarmers.   A bit of hilarious repartee ensued until Robert had convinced me that Curlformers were these revolutionary patented curling tools that he absolutely adored and not curls harvested from a farm somewhere in England.

He explained how to use the new curling tool but I couldn’t picture how it worked in my head.  Jumping up he ran off into his home salon and came striding out with a few of the Curlformers in his hand.  He gave me a quick demonstration of how you use the hook to pull the hair through the Curlformer and how it naturally springs into place.  Impressive. Hair Guru Barbara Lhotan Visits HairBoutique.com For Marathon Hair Extensions And Consultations

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

I met Barbara Lhotan shortly after I founded HairBoutique.com in 1997 when I spied her first updo book at a beauty supply store.  Actually Barbara’s book had already sold out and the only one left was the owner’s copy.

(Image of natural curly cut, color and style created by Barbara Lhotan – Courtesy of Barbara Lhotan – All Rights Reserved)

When I discovered the book was sold out I literally begged the owner to buy her book and even offered double the price.

Beautiful Updos & Long Hair Expert

The book was so great because it not only dealt with beautiful updos, it honored long hair, which is originally what lead me down the path of starting HairBoutique.  I later discovered Barbara is in big demand for her long hair and updo classes.

Although I didn’t personally know Barbara, I hunted her down and called her on the phone.  After a lovely chat with her sweet mom we finally connected and it felt like we had been working together all of our lives. (more…)
