At Emanuel Ungaro, the hairstyle was a severe, strict, high ponytail at the crown. “Ponytails can have so many different variations – some are soft and feminine, and some are more severe like the one today at Emanuel Ungaro. Saturday, March 5th, 2011

Day 2 of Paris Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Week certainly did not disappoint on Friday, March 5th.

Redken Creative Consultant Guido continued his high fashion looks at Pedro Lourenco and Lanvin with two variations on a classic : the ponytail.

Low Ponytail At Nape of Neck At Pedro Lourenco

At Pedro Lourenco, the look was a low ponytail at the nape of the neck.

“Pedro Lourenco is a young Brazilian designer and we collaborated on a very simple, style for this show to allow the clothes to really make the statement on the runway.” – Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Nature’s Rescue Radiant Sea Spray

– Wrap a piece of hair around the elastic and secure with a pin

Ponytail Version With Braid At Lanvin

A ponytail yet again was the style at Lanvin – this time it included a braid.

Transition Into Spring With Great New Hair Color And Styles

Friday, February 4th, 2011

It may not seem like Spring is only five weeks away, especially if you live in the Midwest or East Coast where Winter storms are raging.  As warmer temperatures and sunny skies approach, we’ll all be craving a fresh new hair look.  Maybe even an updated hair color!

Below are some tips from Pam Kelly, the Senior Director/National Technical Education for Fantastic Sams® Hair Salons to help guide you through the process of deciding what hair color and/or styles might be best based on the latest trends in Spring hair color and care.

Find The Right Shade – The first thing you need to do is make sure the color matches your skin tone. Chestnut brown, blonde and copper shades compliment warm undertone complexions. Burgundy, cinnamon, and mahogany work best for those with cooler complexions. Platinum blondes will be very popular this spring and summer but if your complexion doesn’t allow for the white blonde shades, try a shade in beige or light golden tones that will brighten up the face. Dirty Little Secrets Of Celebrity Hair Care Lines

Monday, January 10th, 2011

Recently I received a call from the rep of a well known celebrity hair stylist who will be releasing their new celebrity hair care line in 2011.  The rep wanted to know if I would be interested in selling the line on HairBoutique.com in our Marketplace.

After asking some questions about the ingredients, where the product is being manufactured and ultimate distribution channel goals I graciously passed on the opportunity.

Did I make a mistake?  Of course that’s always a possibility, but considering over the years I’ve tried a number of celebrity hair care lines which turned out to be a huge disappointment, I am very skeptical with any type of celebrity branded products.

Don’t get me wrong.  I’m not against all celebrity hair care lines, but after personally trying just about every new brand, there are only a handful that I think are actually worth the sticker price and provide good quality hair care.

Unfortunately a large component of the celebrity hair care lines are flawed.  Why?  Because most of the celebrity hairstylists are not hair chemists who formulate their lines from scratch.  (more…)

Jojoba And Shea Butter Hair Recipe For Fine Natural Curls

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Jojoba And Shea Butter For Fine Natural Curls

I was chatting recently with a HairBoutique.com Marketplace customer (Ruby) about the HairTopia Beautiful Hair Oil which is based upon 100% certified organic jojoba oil.

Ruby is African American with 3c/4a hair according to the Andrew Walker curl scale.  She said her hair gets very dry, which can be expected from this type of hair.  Since the cuticle does not close all the way, moisture is constantly being lost.

Like many naturally curl girls she is constantly searching for just the right product to add moisture back to her tresses which she said is considered fine texture.  She has a lot of hair, but it is also fine to very fine.

Evaluating Carol Daughter’s Tui Jojoba And Shea Butter Hair Sheen

One of the products she tried because of all the great reviews was Carol’s Daughter (CD) Tui Jojoba And Shea Butter Hair Sheen.  Although she said she loved the aroma, she said the spray product made her hair feel greasy and weighed down.  As we discussed, products which work for one type of curls may not work for others.  Even in the same Walker category or type such as hers.

[amazon-product text=”Carols Daughter Tui Jojoba And Shea Butter” type=”text”]B000WJ5XOM[/amazon-product]

Also, I told her its possible she used to much of the CD Tui product.  She promised me she had tried using just a tiny spritz which she first rubbed into her hands and then smoothed over the top.  Which leads me to believe her fine curls are not a good fit for this product.  Many naturally curly girls love the CD Tui product. Dry Scalp Relief With At Home Recipes

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

In my blog, HTML clipboard Combating Dry Scalps – Helpful Hints, I provide a list of possible causes and resolutions for combating dry scalp.

Of course when dry scalps become a persistent problem you should see your dermatologist or professional hair care expert to determine is there is a serious underlying reason for the issue.

(Image of Brown Sugar – Haap Media, LTD – All Rights Reserved)

Usually the key cause of dry scalp is changing weather, overuse of hair chemicals, hormonal imbalances, improper nutrition or even a reaction to certain prescribed medications.

Some women experience dry scalp during pregnancy and it can occur as a side effect of chemotherapy.

Naturally Curly, Wavy, Kinky Hair Dry Scalp Challenges

As I mentioned in the blog, Combating Dry Scalps – Helpful Hints, naturally curly, wavy and kinky hair may also have issues from time to time with a dry scalp due to the way their hair cuticle is formed and the tendency for their strands to naturally be very dry or moisture challenged. (more…)
