Kim Kardashian Comes Out Of Hair Darkness Into The Light

The Kardashian Sisters – Kourtney, Kim, Khloe – are famous for changing up their hair length, styles and hues.  One things all the sisters understand is that changing their hair color can get them instant media buzz.

The family, famous for being famous, seems to know all the tricks to snag headlines about their hair (blonde, brunette, red), their bodies (losing weight, gaining weight, diet plans) and their romances.

Right now Kim is hogging the Kardashian Family headlines with her huge multi-million dollar engagement ring and plans for a wedding which is said to be more spectacular (and possibly as costly) as the recent royal weddings in England and Monaco.

Now Kim has grabbed headlines again. (more…)

DIY Home Haircolor Perils To Consider

DIY Home Haircolor Perils To Consider

Although home hair color has been around for eons, it recently has become a lot more popular due to the downtown in the economy and the need for many people to cover their gray or do touch-ups at home. As more people color at home out of necessity they also need to understand the DIY home hair color perils to consider and hopefully avoid.

I consider myself a veteran of the hair color wars starting my own quest for the perfect blonde at the local drugstore where I lusted after the photos of the stunning blondes on the Clairol boxes.  Eventually I found my way to Clairol’s Nice n Easy which I used faithfully from my early teens until my 30s.

At one point I noticed my hair would not grow  past my mid back, the ends were much lighter than the middle and I had no easy fix.

The hairstylist whom I consulted about my stunted hair growth explained that the home hair color had to go.  I didn’t believe he had evil motives because my hair had literally not budged past a certain point in 10 years.  There had to be some logical explanation so I knew he was right on the money.

The home hair color kits had kept me blonde, but it had also destroyed my hair and its ability to grow to it’s optimal length.

While I had saved all that hair color at the salon costs over all those years, in the end I had to have my hair cut to chin length and start over with salon highlights and low lights.  My hair eventually recovered and has been several inches below my waist for many years.  (more…)

Hairstylist Kazumi Morton Perfects The Art Of Color

Hairstylist Kazumi Morton Perfects The Art Of Color

Hair health and Skin Tone are Integral to Philosophy

Kazumi Morton has a passion for color and true talent that has been polished by years of experience and dedication. She has a brilliant ability to transform hair color while complementing skin tone, and knows how to incorporate the hottest trends into beautiful looks for her clients.

While Los Angeles is known for its ubiquitous blondes, the ombré look has recently taken the city by storm. Now that the two-toned Drew Berrymore look has faded in popularity, the current trend is much softer and natural looking.

Kazumi creates the perfect gradual dark-to-light look by adding highlights to the tips of hair and blending them well, sometimes adding highlights around the face as well. Kazumi finds inspiration in her children’s hair, which is naturally lightened from the sun, to produce realistic results.

While lately many people have been shying away from red hair because its trending cycle was down, the color is making a comeback and Kazumi knows just how to approach it. This summer, she says, will see shades of copper, strawberry blonde, and apricot. Kazumi adds “sun-kissed” highlights to red so the color has dimension and looks natural. (more…)

How To Hair Care – Home Hair Color Tips

Actress Blake Lively told Billy Bush of Access Hollywood back in April that she dyed her hair brunette to co-star in the movie “Green Lantern” because her bodyguard told her she had to.

Why?  Because comic book fans around the world would have been very upset if the actress played the beloved role of Carol Ferris as a blonde instead of as a brunette, which is how Carol was portrayed in the comic book series.

Blake had the help of a celebrity hair colorist to transition from blonde to brunette.   While it’s always best to have a professional hair coloristhelp you achieve new hues, sometimes it’s not possible and you need to color your hair at home.

If you need or prefer to color your hair at home listed below are some general how to home hair color tips:

Consult With Your Hairdresser When Possible
When Ashlee Simpson went from blonde to raven black her professional hair colorist actually suggested the home hair color formula she should use.

If you have financial constraints or some other reason for wishing to color at home and have a long time hairdresser, you might discuss your hair coloring plans with them to get their input and advice.   Many are very willing to help a long time client with suggestions. (more…)

White Hair Turning Yellow May Signal Disease

White Hair Turning Yellow May Signal Disease

There are a lot of reasons why white, silver or grey hair may turn yellow.  The hair color change may be as innocent as the development of an age-related pigment or it can have serious indications.  In some cases when white or similarly colored hair turns yellow it can mean you have dermatomyositis.

This is a relativity uncommon inflammatory disease which can cause a distinctive skin rash and muscle weakness. It is considered to be an autoimmune disease.

Dermatomyositis is more common in women than men.  Even though is it not a common disease, when symptoms hit, it’s important to address the issues.  The disease can appear suddenly or it can develop gradually over a period of several weeks or months.

Hair Turning Yellow As Disease Indicator

Although the hair turning yellow may be a first indicator of the disease, usually the skin rash is the first major symptom followed by the muscle weakness.  Sometimes the rash is the only symptom and sometimes a rash and muscle weakness can occur at the same time.  Each person is different in how the disease impacts their body. Gray Hair Scoops

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Gray Hair Scoops

Hair color  defined as the pigmentation of hair follicles due to two types of melanin:  a. eumelanin and b. pheomelanin.

Generally, if more melanin is present, the color of the hair is darker; if less melanin is present, the hair is lighter. Levels of melanin can vary over time causing a person’s hair color to change, and it is possible to have hair follicles of more than one color.

Fischer-Saller Hair Color Scale

Particular hair colors are associated with ethnic groups. The shades of human hair color are assessed by Fischer–Saller scale. The Fischer–Saller scale, named after Eugen Fischer and Karl Saller, is used in physical anthropology and medicine to determine the shades of hair color. The scale uses the following designations: A (light blond), B to E (hell blond), F to L (blond), M to O (dark blond), P to T (brown), U to Y (dark brown/black) and Roman numerals I to IV (red) and V to VI (red blond).

Gray Hair Is Completely Clear

Gray or white hair is not actually a hair color, but it is clear due to the lack of pigmentation and melanin.   The clear hairs appear as grey or white because of the way light reflects from the hairs.

Gray hair is a natural part of aging.  As the follicles at the base of the hair shaft slowly lose melanin the hair turns gray, white or silver.   The ultimate color of the hair, whether gray or white or silver depends on the original hair color.  Black hair may turn white while lighter brunette and blonde hair may take on more of a gray or silver hue. Celebrity Red Hair Wars

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Actress Scarlet Johansson, referred by some as ScarJo, set the hair world on fire with her recent appearance at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C. in an spicy deep red hair color.  Her red tresses were parted down the center and worn finger tousled int0 a chin-length bob.

Although the 26-year-old actress is set to revive her role as the Black Widow in “The Avengers”, no one knows for the sure the reason for her shorter, ruby hued hairstyle.

While the sometime blond bombshell has been making news with her separation from Ryan Reynolds and new romance with Sean Penn, it’s hard to know the real reason for the new red hue.

Although I’m a huge fan of Scarlett and love her as a platinum blond, I’m not crazy about her latest red hair.  The color is not my favorite hue for her skin tone and eyes and the center parted chin length bob accentuates her wide forehead, cheeks and her prominent chin.

I personally think she looks better with a fringe of some sort and tresses which extend to her shoulders of below. (more…)

Hayden Panettiere’s Disasterous Hair Color Journey – Her Hair Started Falling Out

Monday, April 18th, 2011

Scream 4 star Hayden Panettiere was on Ellen recently wearing her famous buttery blonde tresses, which are naturally curly/wavy pulled back off her face and captured in back in a very small ponytail.

Ellen asked the former Heroes star “did you change your hair?  Your hair looks the same to me.  What did you do to it?”

Hayden replayed “now it does, it’s the magic of a couple hours of hair and makeup.”

She continued “but I did, I cut my hair all off, I dyed it red, I kinda rebelled from the whole Heroes thing from when the show ended and chopped it all off.”  Hayden noted “my hair all started falling out because I dyed it red and then tried to dye it back blonde.”  Her red turned into a spicy ginger hue.

Ellen asked why Hayden why she wanted to go red.

The petite actress who is currently involved with boxer Wladimir Klitschko said “well I wanted to do brown, I wanted to do dark.  I like drastic changes.  When I do something I like to chop it all off or keep it long or red or black or whatever.  And then I tried to dye it back blonde and my hair just about fell out of my head.  It was terrible.” (more…)

Clairol Natural Instincts Hair Color Voluntary Recall

Saturday, April 16th, 2011

Procter & Gamble Expands Hair Dye Recall On Mismatched Shades

Procter & Gamble Co. (PG) added another two shades of Clairol Natural Instincts hair color to its voluntary recall, as some include a color booster product that doesn’t match the primary colorant.

The recall now spans 12 shades of the brand of semi-permanent hair dye. While P&G notes the full product remains safe to use and the primary colorant isn’t affected, a sachet of color revitalizer meant to be used two weeks after initial coloring may be mismatched and produce an “unwanted color result.”

Procter & Gamble said it was removing the products from stores and has told regulatory authorities in the affected countries: the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

Consumers with an affected shade should discard the “ColorFresh Revitalizer” sachet and can call the company for a replacement coupon or refund at 866-493- 0512.
