Katy Perry Shimmers In Ultimate Sleek Topknot Hairstyle

Katy Perry recently appeared on her Instagram feed looking stunning with her currently blonde hued hair wrapped into a sleek topknot.

AMERICAN IDOL – Katy Perry (ABC/Gavin Bond)
KATY PERRY

A Rapunzel-inspired hair extension ponytail flowed from around the topknot down to her shoulders, in loose waves.

The star’s look was created by hairstylists Rick Henry and Samantha Burke who shared footage of Katy with her add-on.

It seems for 2020 Katy has embraced a series of top knot hairstyles ranging from a classic knot to knots embellished with clip-in extensions creating longer flowing locks.

Although she frequently gravitates back to her signature sleek dark hair, Perry has rocked every length, color and style of hair from bubble gum pink curls to dark green waves.

How To Recreate Katy’s Topknot

Follow the steps listed below to recreate Katy’s ultimate sleek topknot:

  • Wet wash detangled hair with a formula designed for your hair type, cuticle shape and current condition.
  • Make sure to get hair completely doused with lukewarm, not hot, water before pour a tiny amount of shampoo to the fingertips and palms of the hands.
  • Apply with fingertips to the top of the scalp.  Allow suds to form from water and flow down the length of the strands.
  • Avoid ruffling, rubbing or scratching the scalp.  Don’t pile hair on top of the head.
  • Rinse shampoo completely from hair.  Perform a gentle accordion finger squeeze to remove excess hair.
  • Apply a rinse-out conditioner designed for your hair.  Separate hair into small sections.  Use a hair friendly wide tooth comb or pick to detangle strands, working from the ends to the roots.
  • After detangling, rinse well and complete with a final cool/cold rinse.
  • Use a clean microfiber hair towel or 100% cotton t-shirt to gently blot excess water from hair.

Applying A  Great Styling Cocktail Is A Critical Step

  • Apply a leave-in styling cocktail which includes, but isn’t limited to a leave-in conditioner, heat protection product and styling product such as mousse, styling cream or similar.
  • Blow dry your hairline up and back using a boar bristle round or paddle brush to create a smooth and sleek section.
  • Use a sleek balm or styling cream lightly applied through the roots to tame and smooth any flyway’s. If you prefer, try a hair styling stick designed to smooth and tame fly-a-way strands.   The more you use the more it will hold and create sheen.
  • Once hair is completely dry, use a paddle or styling brush to sweep hair into a really high ponytail which is positioned with the base located right on top of the crown.
  • Use a straightening iron on the ponytail to create a super sleek finish.
  • Mist each section first with a strong hold hairspray which won’t flake and delivers shine.
  • Wrap hair around the base of the ponytail, section by section until the last section of hair is finished.
  • Leave about 2″ of hair out to create Katy’s topknot.
  • Finish by misting a high shine mist on the palms of the hands.  Lightly glide over the top of the finished hairstyle to achieve exceptional shine.  Remember, a little bit goes a very long way.

Topknot Alternatives

Topknot hairstyles are incredibly versatile.  They can be worn standalone as a single elegant knot, or they can be dressed up with clip-in hair extensions like Katy Perry recently showed off on her Instagram feed.

Topknots hairstyles also look amazing with an array of hair accessories ranging from crystal encrusted hair pins, bobbies, barrettes and miniature hair clips.

Let your imagination run wild and custom your topknot to be uniquely your own.

Demi Lovato Warns Fans Against Hair Or Any Other Image Altering

Demi Lovato Warns Fans Against Hair Or Any Other Image Altering

Demi Lovato Warns Fans Against Hair Or Any Other Image Altering – Demi Lovato During Interview – February 18, 2020 – Ashley Graham – Wikipedia

Demi Lovato recently shared a message on Social Media warning her fans against hair or other image altering practices.

The beloved superstar told her legions of fans about the hidden dangers of celebrity fan art on social media.

Demi wrote on Instagram that fans who engage in celebrity image editing may “reinforce impossible beauty standards”.

Fan Art Isn’t Harmless

Demi’s worried because “sometimes fan art can seem harmless” when it’s really not.

She said fans need to “be careful if you’re constantly editing your idol’s pictures” and images.

Demi Shared Her Own Fears

Demi explained how constant image altering sets the groundwork for false definitions of true physical beauty.

Recently she showed an unedited photo of herself in a bikini on Instagram and pointed out her cellulite.

Demi posted “This is my biggest fear. A photo of me in a bikini unedited. And guess what, it’s CELLULIT!!!!”

Being Authentic About Who You Are

Demi Lovato Performing At 2020 Billboard Music Awards On NBC

Demi explained the “bikini pics were edited – and I hate that I did that (but it’s the truth) so that others think I’m THEIR idea of what beautiful is, but it’s just not me.”

She said “This is what I got. I want this new chapter in my life to be about being authentic to who I am rather than trying to meet someone else’s standards.”

The superstar has good reasons for warning  her fans that overly edited celebrities create unrealistic illusions.

Demi has shared how she struggles with loving herself and her body exactly as it is.

Some of the most stunning celebrities edited by fans appear even more beautiful than they are in real life.

This creates impossible standards for average people to try and achieve.

Demi knows better than anyone how hard it is to make peace with your authentic hair, body and self.

Beware Of Celebrities Whose Images Have Been Unrealistically Enhanced

People who aren’t celebrities won’t see their idols as being human.

They may compare themselves to their idol’s public photos.

Unfortunately they don’t realize the celebrities photos have been altered to create unrealistic images.

Photo shopped or FaceTuned accounts of already beautiful celebrities are popping up everywhere.

Celebrities or Social Media stars appear with deliberately altered hair, skin, make-up, and body images.

Retouching Images Is Changing Reality

The current trend of retouching images of beautiful celebrities to remove bad hair, skin or bodies is alarming.

It’s changing reality.

Demi believes it sets unrealistic standards for any normal person to live up to in their own lives.

These unrealistic expectations of perfect hair, skin, teeth and body may trigger depression.   Or perpetual self-hate in impressionable youth or other people struggling with maintaining their own healthy image.

Learning to love yourself and your body is key for developing a happy life.  Demi wants to spread that very important message.

Kudos to her for always being true to herself and her fans.

Actress Lisa Rinna delighted and surprised her long time fans of her iconic short hairstyle by appearing at a recent Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills (RHOBH) reunion on Bravo (NBC) with a very long clip-on braid.

Visit the RHOBH on Bravo/TV at: https://www.bravotv.com/the-real-housewives-of-beverly-hills/about

Besides shaking things up on the hit Bravo (NBC) reality housewives show, Lisa has been making lots of changes with her own hair.

The famous Housewife has been famous for many years with her fans and hair aficionados for her iconic short golden shaggy brown bob embellished with a big sweep of side bangs.

Since 2019 Lisa has been slowly growing out her hair so that her bob has transitioned into a much fuller, shoulder length layered style.

There’s no denying Lisa’s longer shoulder-length shag looks fabulous on her.

To spice things up, Lisa appeared on a recent RHOBH reunion show hosted by Andy Cohen wearing a very long clip-on braid which was completely unexpected.  It looked amazing with her beautiful yellow dress and accessories.

Lisa, who has been very controversial recently on RHOBH for her behavior on the show caught the attention of Bravo’s Andy Cohen when she appeared on the reunion show with her long braided hairstyle.

Lisa’s longer and softer shoulder-length hairstyle looks gorgeous on the popular 57 year old actress (July 11, 1963).  It appears the actress and reality star loves her new softer and long hairstyles and will continue to experiment.

I can’t wait to see what she does with her hair moving forward.  Luckily we can all watch her on Bravo and NBC to keep track of her latest hairstyle looks.

Acupunture For Hair Growth From My Personal Experience

Back in 2002 I wrote an article on HairBoutique.com about my many years of experience with acupunture for hair growth.

Acupuncture For Hair Growth - Actual Acupuncture Needle. Wikipedia - Date - 20 October 2007 - Author - Xhienne

Acupuncture For Hair Growth – Actual Acupuncture Needle. Wikipedia – Date – 20 October 2007 – Author – Xhienne

I’ve been delighted to discover acupunture as an alternative therapy for growing healthy, long, strong and lush hair.

In my original article, which has been copied many times across the Internet (especially by a well-known Singapore clinic) without my permission and which never references Hairboutique.com as the original article, I discuss my relationships with the late Dr. Stuart Mauro L.Ac., O.M.D.

Note:  If you see any articles about hair growth, hair loss and acupunture mentioning Dr. Stuart Mauro please be advised that the information was likely taken without permission from HairBoutique.com.

Acupunture For Long Hair Growth

My Dallas Acupuncturist – Dr. Stuart Mauro

I first met Dr. Mauro in Dallas, Texas, who passed away in 2011 from complications of a stroke, in 1985 right after I moved from St. Louis, Missouri to Dallas, Texas.

It wasn’t my first experience with acupunture treatments which I first started receiving in 1980 from my late husband, Dr. Michael Thayer D.C., L.Ac., O.M.D.

Acupuncture Has Been One Of My Secret Weapons For Hair Growth

In essence I’ve been receiving acupunture treatments for more than 40+ years for a variety of physical issues ranging from maintaining my overall health including encourage long, strong, healthy, lush hair which as of July 4, 2020 extends down past my hips.

I also utilized acupunture treatments during the times in my life when I suffered from bouts of alopecia related to a past eating disorder and extreme dieting.

Not only did many years of acupunture help to strengthen my immune system, I have received needling for viruses, cold, allergies, bladder and yeast infections, stress related physical problems.

Yes, let’s not forget the hair loss issues and stalled hair growth cycles from my underactive thyroid gland.

Hair Related Problems Resolved With Acupuncture

Can acupuncture really help a myriad of hair related problems including alopecia and stalled hair growth?

My long time acupuncturist, Dr. Mauro explained “acupuncture can definitely provide help for a variety of hair related problems.”

Acupuncture May Not Be Able To Overcome Hair Genetics

Can it fix every known hair growth or hair loss problem?

Dr, Mauro told me more than once “while acupunture can work to help resolve a myriad of health challenges including stalled hair growth and alopecia, it doesn’t work for all people, all of the time.”

Acupuncture For Hair Growth - Poster Outlining 14 Acupunture Meridians

Acupuncture For Hair Growth – Poster Outlining 14 Acupunture Meridians

In some cases genetics override every other possible type of treatment ranging from enhanced nutrition to alternative treatments such as acupunture, acupressure or similar.

As Dr. Mauro notes, sometimes “with certain hair loss genetics such as male and female pattern baldness, the only options include approved prescription drugs (minoxidil and/or propecia) or hair transplant surgeries.”

Acupuncture And Hair Loss

Dr. Mauro practiced acupuncture )until his sudden death in October of 2011 related to complications from a stroke), along with traditional Chinese medicine, to treat his patients for every type of possible symptom for over 35+ years.

Along the way, Dr. Mauro successfully treated his patients for all types of hair loss problems “including various forms of severe alopecia.”

Acupuncture is a great alternative health option which I have found works extremely well for me, my body, my roots, scalp and hair.   I realize it may not work as well for others due to their circumstances.

After Dr. Mauro’s death, I immediately started receiving acupunture treatments from other Chinese acupunture doctors in the Dallas area.  One of the doctors has been treating me on a bi-monthly basis since 2011.

I’m A Walking Testimonial To Acupuncture Treatments

Although I miss the amazing needle treatments I received from Dr. Mauro, my current acupuncturist has continued to keep me, my body and hair healthy, vibrant while continuing to grow longer longer.

As always, let me stress the point that while acupuncture works for me, it may not work for everyone. When considering health care options for yourself, always make sure that you consult with your primary physician.

It should also be noted that in some circles acupunture is considered highly controversial and considered to be a form of placebo treatments.  When in doubt, do your own research and document your own experiences.

Warning:  Before undertaking any type of treatments of any kind, be sure to first consult with your primary health physician to make sure you are an appropriate candidate.

Absolute Best Way To Protect Hair From Sun Damage

Absolute Best Way To Protect Hair From Sun Damage

The absolute best way to protect your hair from sun damage is to avoid exposing your hair to UVA/UVB rays in the first place.

Absolute Best Way To Protect Hair From Sun Damage

Absolute Best Way To Protect Hair From Sun Damage – Young Woman With Long Blonde Hair On Beach – Hairboutique.com – All Rights Reserved

UV radiation is present in sunlight, and constitutes about 10% of the total electromagnetic radiation output from the Sun.

It’s also produced by electric arcs and specialized lights, such as mercury-vapor lamps, tanning lamps, and black lights.

If your hair is already damaged, chemically treated (bleach, hair color, relaxed, straightened, permed) or naturally dry to very dry, it’s advisable to avoid exposing hair to the sun.

Or exposing hair to UVA/UVB rays without a protective head covering such as hats, scarves or similar.

When it’s not feasible to just keep hair out of the sun, consider taking the following steps to protect your hair from sun damage:

1.  Before exposing hair to UVA/UVB rays wet wash pre-detangled hair in lukewarm water.  Douse hair completely with water before applying a super hydrating shampoo, no poo, lo poo or diluted formula.

Note:  If you prefer you can dilute 1/8th teaspoon of moisturizing cleanser in a clean 1 quart bottle of lukewarm water shaken to form a suds).   Or you can wet wash using a rinse out conditioner.

2.  Drizzle hair with desired hydrating rinse-out shampoo or cleanser directly onto the roots.  Allow the suds to gently flow down towards the ends of the hair.  Gently pat the suds into wet strands.

Don’t rub, scrub or pile hair on top of your head.  Treat hair like antique lace.

3.  Rinse hair completely with lukewarm water.

4.  Gently accordion squeeze your hair to remove excess water before applying a moisturizing rinse-out conditioner.

5.  Apply super hydrating rinse-out conditioner a few inches from the roots (unless you believe your roots need additional hydration).

6.  While hair has hydrating conditioner applied, use a wide tooth comb with smooth teeth and gently detangle from the ends up to the roots.  Work around the head in small sections of hair.

7.  Once hair has been completely detangled rinse well with clear water.

8.  Gently accordion squeeze your hair again to remove excess water.

9.  Perform a finish rinse with cool/cold water to seal in moisture and close the cuticle.

10.  Do a final accordion squeeze before blotting away excess moisture with a clean 100% all cotton cloth or microfiber towel.

11.  Apply a leave-in conditioning cocktail including, but not limited to a leave-in conditioner, styling product and a heat protection cream or spray which should be applied as the last step.

12.  If you plan on immediately going into the sun, consider allowing hair to air dry using the heat of the sun.  To protect it you may wish to loosely braid hair or arrange hair into a loose top knot or bun.

Absolute Best Way To Protect Hair From Sun Damage

13.  When you prefer not to go outside in wet hair and prefer to dry it first, consider drying hair with a blow dryer set on the lowest and coolest settings to prevent heat damage.

Even better, sit under a hood or bonnet dryer set on a low, cool setting.

Additionally, consider taking the following steps to protect your hair from sun damage:

  • Before going out into the sun pop on a protective hat, scarf or other head wear made in a heavy fabric to completely block rays of the sun.  Avoid hats made with straw or light see-through fabrics which allows rays of the sun to filter through.
  • Time your sun exposure for when the sun’s rays are least damaging (before 10 am or after 2 pm).
  • If head wear doesn’t work, consider siding in the shade or under a large sun umbrella or similar shade inducing option.
  • Keep a heat protection/sun protection spray nearby so you can reapply the spray throughout the day.  Make sure hair is completely covered at all time with heat protection spray to block out sun’s ray.

  • If you dried your hair before going out into the sun you may want to apply an additional layer of leave-in conditioner to protect hair.  Leave-in conditioner provides an extra protective barrier.
  • You may also wish to apply an oil to your hair which is compatible with your hair type, texture and current condition.  Apply the oil to your hair, roll into a bun or plait into a braid.
  • Allow the sun to add natural heat to trigger the softening power of the oil.Keep in mind that most oils will not penetrate down deep into the cuticle, but will add a layer of protection and will soften hair.

Most oils will merely sit on top of the outside of the hair’s cuticle, but it will help keep hair externally soft.

UVA/UVB rays can be very damaging to hair breaking down the cuticle resulting in dry, brittle, damaged, frizzy and dehydrated strands.

Absolute Best Way To Protect Hair From Sun Damage

During periods of time when your hair will be exposed to the sun consider wet washing your hair less often to minimize wear and tear.

Remember to never wash hair in hot water and limit use of hot drying and styling tools.

The sun can also dry out the scalp.  Besides protecting your strands from the dehydration and damage the UV rays can do, be sure to protect your scalp as well.

You may want to apply a light protection spray directly to your scalp.

Or you may want to amp up your use of deep conditioners to keep hair tip top.

Make sure to keep your ends trimmed to prevent splits, rips and breakage.  Hydrate from the inside out, but amping up your daily consumption of water.

Besides protecting your hair and scalp don’t forget to keep your eyes shaded properly.   Long term exposure to the sun can cause long term eye damage.  When in doubt always follow tips for the absolute best way to protect hair from sun damage.

Hair Nostalgia – Glam Bob Hairstyles From The 1960s

Saturday, March 14th, 2020

Hair Nostalgia sometimes triggers a sentimental longing in some people for glam hairdos from the 1960s which were very different than they are today in 2020.

Most people won’t deny that the glam 60s bob hairstyles embellished with full lush bangs were quite different than they are in current times.

Yet some folks have a wistful affection for those bubble infused hairstyles of the past.

Hair nostalgia sometimes triggers a sentimental longing in some people for glam hairdos from the 1960s which were very different than they are today in 2020.  to look back.

Back in the 1960s a popular hair tool was the old Dell Magazine pocket hairdo guides.   The pocket publications were chock full of hairstyles.

All the young girls, especially of high school and college ages, carried the little hair books tucked into their handbags.

The young women would study each hairstyle at lunchtime in the cafeteria or student union.

Not only would they discuss each and every hairstyle in great length, they would study how to actually set the hairstyle using various curlers.

Luckily the pocket hair booklets included diagrams showing how to style each of the hairdos.

The example I’ve chosen for this blog is a classic glam bob hairstyle with a full bumper bang.

This hairstyle was popular because it helped to add softness and sleekness to a puffy hairstyles.

Create this nostalgic bob style on newly wet washed hair which has been micro fiber blotted and prepped with a styling cocktail consisting of leave-in conditioner as well as styling cream.

Part the hair down the center of the head from the hairline to the nape of the neck at the back of the head.

Carefully detangle hair with a smooth, wide-tooth styling comb.  Separate hair into equal sized sections.   Use the largest sized rollers available.

Wind the curlers down and away from the center part on either side. Then roll the curlers down in back except for the little nape ones, which are wound upwards.

After you’ve rolled the side and back of the hair then wind the bangs on medium size rollers, forward and smoothly down.  Allow the hair to air dry or sit under a hood or bonnet style dryer on the slowest, coolest setting.

Once hair is 100% dry, remove the curlers one at a time.  Use a boar bristle styling brush to lightly break up the curl patterns and arrange the hair.  If you prefer more volume, back brush individual sections of the hair and then smooth it over.

Optionally you can use some light styling spray or hairspray to set the style.

Duplicate this nostalgic hairstyle for 2020 by following the step-by-step instructions provided along with utilizing the proper styling cocktail products as well as the appropriate large and medium sized hair rollers.

If you want to change up the glam bob hairstyle shown in this blog you can set the bangs with very small curlers and arrange the front of the hair a lot like Janet Leigh’s hairstyle in Psycho which was released in 1960.

Waves, Curls, Coils Or Kinks? Simonne Missick's Naturally Textured Hair

Waves, Curls, Coils Or Kinks may or may not fit into a clear definition or classification.

Whether your naturally textured hair consists of waves, curls, coils or kinks only really matters when trying to determine your possible treatment, maintenance and hair product plans to utilize.

Textured Hair Classification Systems

Although there are a number of Textured Hair Classification Systems which have been around for many years, many textured hair people consider The Andre Walker Hair Typing System is thought by experts to be the most comprehensive system.

The FIA Hair Typing System is very similar to the The Andre Walker Hair Typing System

Unlike the Andre Walker system it has one extra category for Type III Curly hair and also adds the definition of the “Z” shape to Type IVa and b hair.

The Andre Walker Hair Typing System was created by Oprah Winfrey’s long time hair stylist.

According to the Andre Walk system there are four types of hair:

Type I – Naturally Straight Hair
Ia – Straight (Fine/Thin) – Hair is shiny, potentially oily, hard to damage or hold curls.
Ib – Straight (Medium/Coarse) – Hair is coarse with volume and/or body
Ic – Straight (Bone Straight/Coarse) – Hard to curl, this is often found in Asian hair.

According to the FIA Typing System, some Ic naturally straight hair may have one or two loose S patterns intertwined throughout hair.

Type II – Wavy
IIa – Wavy (Fine/Thin) – Hair has definite “S” pattern.  Easy styling straight, wavy or curly.
IIb – Wavy (Medium) – Can be frizzy and resistant to styling.
IIc – Wavy (Coarse) – Frizzy or very frizzy with thicker waves.  Resistant to styling.

Type III – Curly
IIIa
– Curly (Loose) – Curly hair that usually presents a definite “S” pattern and tends to combine thickness, fullness, body and/or frizziness.
IIIb – Curly (Tight) – IIIa “S” pattern curls,  but with tighter curling more like a spiral. The FIA Typing System includes a IIIc pattern which defined coils.
IIIc
– Curly (Extremely) – IIIb pattern but with very tight spirals and/or coils

Type IV – Kinky
IVa – Kinky (Soft) –  Hair tends to be very fragile, tightly coiled and can feature curly to very tight curl patterning
IVb – Kinky (Wiry) –  Like IVa, but with less visible (or no) curl patterning.
IVc – Kinky (Very Wiry) – As IVa and IVb, but with almost no defined curl pattern in any.

The FIA Typing System includes a IVb and IVc pattern description whereas the hair has a “Z” pattern, sharp angles and tight to very tight kinks.

Challenges With Hair Texture Classification Systems

Although it’s helpful to have well-defined hair texture classification systems as a general rule of thumb, all people will not necessarily fit neatly into one category.

Every head of naturally textured hair is unique and different.  Some people may have multiple types of hair on the same head of hair.

Or one hair type might include all different subcategories.

Personally I have naturally wavy hair which would most likely be classified as IIc with coarse wavy hair which at times is prone to being frizzy if I don’t keep my hair highly hydrated.  It’s definitely resistant to styling.

Waves, Curls, Coils Or Kinks Classification
Systems Are Meant To Be Broken

My hair also has IIIa loose curls around the nape of my neck which presents a definite “S” pattern and tends to combine thickness, fullness, body and/or frizziness.

There are other potential differences in each and everyone’s hair type and texture which makes it difficult in some cases to get a well defined texture profile.

In other words, texture classification systems are meant to be broken depending on the person.

The length of the hair can also determine unique differences.  When hair is worn shorter, the texture patterns may be more pronounced.  When hair is worn longer, the patterns may soften and be hard to easily spot.

Summary

What is the benefit of utilizing hair texture classification systems to determine if you have Waves, Curls, Coils Or Kinks?

Not only can you get a better understanding of the best hair care products to utilize on your hair type and texture, you can learn the best tricks or techniques for manifesting your very best hair.

The downside is that not all people fit easily into a single category.

Many people might fall into multiple categories and have a range of types and textures on one head of hair.

Ideally it’s best to create your own definition of your hair type and texture, match that as closely as possible to the texture classifications you relate to and then build your own custom textured hair care program.

Simone Missick who was a fan favorite on Luke Cage, has beautifully naturally textured hair

She’s shared her hair product preferences for Carol’s Daughter Sulfate Free Poo and Conditioner, Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shea Moisture (or JBCO) for loc and braiding her hair.

She also has shared how much she loves Miss Jessie’s Baby Buttercreme for a twist out hairstyle which is always poppin.

Ted Gibson Is A Shooting Star

From the very moment of HairBoutique.com‘s birth back in the mid-1990s I was aware that hair guru Ted Gibson is a shooting star.

Born in my own beloved state of Texas, Scorpion Ted Gibson (November 15, 1965) has risen to become one of the top celebrity hairdressers of all time.

In 2003 he made International headlines with his 2,500-square-foot eponymous salon in New York’s Flatiron district.

From Austin, Texas To A Household Name On TV’s What Not To Wear

The brilliantly talented hairstylist and his famed hair colorist husband, Jason Backe, had the hair world in the palms of their ultra-talented hands.

Ted went on to become a household name on What Not To Wear from 2009 until 2013 when he appeared on the popular TV show.

Launching The Hottest New Hair Trend For 2019

Some of the world’s biggest celebrity, socialite and political stars have Ted Gibson as Favorites on their smart devices.

Just recently Ted made International headlines for creating actress Sandra Oh’s gorgeous wave infused hairstyle at the recent Golden Globes where the lovely star was a co-host and Globe winner.

By working his legendary hair magic and cutting bangs into Sandra’s naturally textured hair Ted launched the hottest hair trend for 2019.

A Virtual Who’s Who Of Celebrity, Socialite And Political Hair As Well As Fashion Clients

Ted’s famous clients also include, but aren’t limited to: Angelina Jolie, Debra Messing, Anne Hathaway, Gabrielle Union, Bella Hadid, Elizabeth Banks, Lupita Yong’o, Gug Mbatha-Raw, Hilary Duff, Ashley Greene, Gabrielle Union, Bella Hadid, Ashley Greene, Renée Zellweger, Zoe Saldana and Demi Moore, to name just a few of his famous clients.

His hair genius is in demand by many of the world’s top fashion houses including Chanel and Prada.

Ted started working with fashion hair on the runways many years ago.  In an interview he did in 2012 during his work for Rachel Roy he noted that the first shows he ever did was “Miu Miu, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana.”

A Humble Man Who Is Loyal, Kind And Never Forgets Those Who Gave Him Career Guidance

Over the years since I first started hearing about Ted Gibson the one thing which always impressed me about Ted is his loyalty to his roots and the people who helped him get his start.  He is also incredibly humble, kind, thoughtful and just a really good person.

From his humble beginnings going to barber college part time until he began a mentoring program under the renowned coaching of Zan Ray in Austin, Texas, Ted has remained loyal.

Ted continues to credit Zan for much of his success in life and as a hair guru.

Inspiration From The Late Great Horst Rechelbacher

He also never forgets his time with the late Horst Rechelbacher (founder of Aveda) whom Ted says “changed the way I thought about styling hair” and “he (Horst) showed me how to develop products, dress hair, and be an entrepreneur.”

Loyalty and kindness are two of my life touchstones which is why I have never lost the utmost respect for Ted Gibson and his amazing talents.  In the past Ted recommended Hairboutique to InStyle magazine.  I will never forget his lovely words and will always owe him my debt of kindness.

A Master Of Reinvention

Maybe because Ted is a Pluto ruled Scorpion who is always reinventing himself, or because he’s got secret crystal ball in his bedroom, he is always reinventing himself and his business model.

Ted has stated that the most challenging part of the hair industry “is maintaining relevancy: Once you’re on top, staying on top is a challenge. I’m fortunate that I’ve been able to carve out these different pieces of my business.”

He also wise said “you have to have many touchpoints; it’s not just about being behind a chair. I’d tell my 20-something self not to stress so much about money, where I was going to live. Everything is going to be all right and good.”

Taking His Own Career Advice

It really shouldn’t have been any surprise in 2016 when Ted and Jason decided to close their breathtakingly beautiful salon in New York City.

Even though Ted closed his gorgeous salon, he continued onward with his Internationally famous Ted Gibson Artistic Team consisting of hand picked artists from around the country representing the famous Ted Gibson brand.

Ted also made plans to develop a new product line and to continue to run the Ted Gibson Advanced Academy which provides classes for stylists who want to advance their careers to the next level.

Attracting A New Generation Of Hair Fans And Followers

Why did Ted and Jason close their New York salon?

Jason told WWD at the time “[Millennials] want to be able to create their own schedules.” He also said: “The way that they work is different. If we want to be attractive to that generation, then we need to be inspiring to them.”

Although at the time Jason said “new plans were in the works for a completely new venue for the future” he didn’t provide details.  He also explained “our whole idea of an 18-20 chair salon is kind of like a dinosaur.” He said “we want to be ahead of the curve. It’s really about a boutique kind of idea.”

Starting A Brand New Adventure Across The Country

When Ted and Jason closed their New York salon the duo promised they would be creating a brand new business concept.  Indeed they did, in spades.

Instead of just moving to another part of New York City Ted Gibson and Jason Backe grabbed relevancy with both hands.

Surprising many, the two hair gods moved completely across the country to the West Coast where Ted and Jason created a complete reinvention of their famous hair business.

Ted Gibson’s Shooting Star Texture Meringue Product

Even while busy reinventing himself Ted Gibson continued to work on creating amazing hair products.

After all, who better to create a new hair texture product than Ted Gibson who’s styled hair on a dizzying array of editorial shoots, for celebrity Red Carpets and for other key events?

Ted Gibson created his sizzling new Shooting Star Texture Meringue (SSTM) to offer endless styling possibilities.

Melissa McCarthy in the February 2019 issue of InStyle Magazine swears that Ted’s Shooting Star Texture Meringue “literally doubles” her hair volume.

SSTM Works On Both Wet And Dry Hair

Whether you use SSTM or wet or dry hair, you can achieve incredible results.  On wet hair the products creates big, beautiful, sexy blow outs.

SSTM is a high performance product with an intoxicating fragrance.  It has notes of fig and amber which gives way to notes of coriander and vanilla rounded out with creamy coconut and warm woods.

Ted Gibson Is A Shooting Star

By now you’ve probably figured out that I’m a huge fan of the amazingly gifted and talented superstar hairstylist Ted Gibson. Not because he’ll always be a Texan like me, or because he’s a Scorpio (one of my favorite signs after many years of studying astrology), but because he walks his talk.

This hard-working, kind and wildly talented man continues to push himself to ascend even higher mountains.

What else would you expect from a shooting star like Ted Gibson?

Recently when my partner and I moved just 26 miles away from our last home in Dallas I was a hot mess.  Imagine how much I admire Ted Gibson for moving completely across the country. I was totally in awe of his chutzpah.

I have no doubt, as he said in a past interview, Ted Gibson is “going to be all right and good.”

Step into the Fergie Hair 2018 Time Machine and set the dials to March 30, 2009.

Back in 2009 OK Magazine asked their fans an important Fergie (born Stacy Ann Ferguson on March 27, 1975) hair question.

“Is Fergie more Fergielicious as a brunette or a blonde?”

The fans weighed in with their opinions.

The results?

56% of the fans thought the beautiful singer looked most beautiful as a brunette.

44% thought the 2018 Host on Fox/TV’s  The Four:  Battle For Stardom looked best as a blonde.

Why was OK Magazine dissecting Fergie’s hair color?

Fergie Stunned As A Brunette

In March of 2009 the sexy songbird appeared and performed at the March of Dimes Beauty Ball with apl.de.ap her Black Eyed Pea Band Mate.

Fergie shocked many fans by showing up with shocking stick straight long dark brunette strands replacing her iconic white blonde tresses.

Since she first appeared on the music scene Fergie has cycled through every imaginable hair color, length and style.

Combining Blonde And Brunette Together

Although Fergie primarily wears her hair much lighter than darker, sometimes she combines both blonde and brunette into the very same color at the same time.

When she recently appeared at the Fox All-Star Party on Monday, May 14, 2018 her hair was platinum blonde with black tipped edges.

The American singer, songwriter, rapper, and actress appeared at the party to promote her appearance as the host on Fox TV’s The Four.

Fergie has the perfect background to be the host on the The Four.

She originally achieved chart success as part of the hip hop group The Black Eyed Peas.

Her debut solo album, The Dutchess (2006), saw commercial success.

It spawned three Billboard Hot 100 number one singles; “London Bridge”, “Glamorous”, and “Big Girls Don’t Cry”.

Wild Orchid And Then The Black Eyed Peas

Fergie was originally a member of the children’s television series Kids Incorporated and the girl group Wild Orchid.

In 2001, she left the group and in the subsequent year joined The Black Eyed Peas.

She worked with The Black Eyed Peas on two albums before releasing her debut solo album in September 2006.

Fergie continued her collaboration with The Black Eyed Peas, and released a further two albums with them, The E.N.D. (2009) and The Beginning (2010).

Beth Pearson’s Natural Hair On This Is Us (TIU) on NBC is one of the many great new hair stories included in the new Fall 2018 TV season shows.

Actress Susan Kelechi Watson (November 17, 1980) plays the strong, sassy wife of Randall Pearson (Sterling K. Brown) on the critically acclaimed hit drama which highlights the lives and families of two parents, and their three children, born on their father’s birthday.

Showcasing Gorgeous Natural Hairstyles

Since the very episode, Beth has showcased an array of beautiful natural hairstyles ranging from stunning box braids to a spectacular afro which works in perfect harmony with her steely character as a mom to two natural and one adopted daughter.

Yes, she’s also been shown with a simple, but elegant ponytail which highlights how natural hair can be worn in a dizzying array of gorgeous styles.

Just like everything else the writers have so thoughtfully presented on TIU, Beth’s hair is just one component of the entire Randall/Beth marriage.

It’s not a perfect marriage, but it’s presented as realistically as possible.

Last season when talking to Deja’ (Lyric Ross) mother about his wife Randall described Beth as “a Black Queen” who sleeps in “a headscarf and coconut oil”.

While it may seem like a small thing to most people, the way Beth wears her hair on TIU helps to shape her character and underlines her relationship not only with Randall and her family, the rest of the world.

Watson has shared in the media that she intentionally is constantly showcasing her naturally textured hair as Beth with the blessing of NBC. She has explained her constantly changing natural hairstyles on the show is her very personal “shout-out to black women” everyone.

She is demonstrating the death of the old American standard of beauty.  Women of all ages and color can do “beautiful things” with their hair to honor all different textures.

The 37-year-old actress who is directly descended from Jamaican and Nigerian ancestors has confessed to thinking through her story lines in advance with thoughts about how to wear her hair.

Watson has confessed she creates new hairstyles with the help of her on-set hairstylist which are most appropriate for the story’s message.

Once she has figured out in her head what she wants to do with her hair, she works with her stylist Renee to create it.

Constantly Changing Hairstyles – Beth Pearson’s Natural Hair On This Is Us

Watson has shared with the media in the past that she loves to play around with her hair and try out lots of different looks.   The actress plays with her hair both on and off screen and loves to experiment.

Since she likes to constantly change up her hairstyle, Watson is a big advocate for add-on hair. She also embraces an array of clip-ins, add-on braids, and various crochet hair options.

Not only does Watson as Beth showcase her fabulous naturally texture hair in an array of beautiful hairstyle, but her story lines also have included hair related issues with her family.

Summary – Beth Pearson’s Natural Hair On This Is Us Is A Key Theme

Last season her character developed growing concern over the well-being and self-esteem of her adopted daughter Deja who was refusing to deal with her hair.

After a touching bonding moment between Beth and Deja in the family home, the hair challenges of the newest member of the family seemed resolved.

That is, until an awkward Randall intrudes on the new trust Deja was building with Beth.

Trying to help Deja feel comfortable in their home and with her own natural beauty proven to be a major Pearson challenge.  Even though the outspoken teenager eventually chopped all her own naturally textured hair off, the ultimate message was delivered.

This Is Us provides so many hair stigma busting messages for 2018 that it’s inspired many devoted fans.

The hit TV serious has launched a new appreciation and awareness that all hair is beautiful, regardless of the type, texture, length or hairstyle.
