How To Extend Summer Skin Glow Into Fall And Winter

How To Extend Summer Skin Glow Into Fall And Winter

Dewy skin, clear complexion and a flawless tan are things that we want to preserve all year round.  Unfortunately they wither away in the fall when sunny vacations are over and it’s back to the grind.

Dr. David E. Bank, founder and director of the Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic & Laser Surgery in Mount Kisco, NY and President of the New York State Society for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery shares his expert tips on how to extend that beautiful summer vacation glow from fall deep into winter.

Dr. Bank’s tips include the following:

Remove Dead Skin Cells – The sand at the beach and regular shaving during the summer acts as a natural exfoliation for the body.

Professional Treatment –  Requiring no anesthetic, microdermabrasion uses light abrasion to remove dead skin cells on the epidermis thereby revealing younger, smoother skin.

At Home –  To preserve smooth and dewy skin, opt for an at-home gentle exfoliation with salicylic acid twice a week to slough off dead skin.

Prevent Sudden Acne Breakout – The sun acts as drying agent and a tan helps camouflage pimples. However, too much sun can potentially backfire as ultraviolet lights stimulate sebaceous glands, which causes the skin to thicken up. (more…)

Kim Kardashian Lush Eyelash Secrets

Kim Kardashian always looks perfectly put-together from her long raven black shiny tresses to her flawless skin and spectacular eye make-up.  Did you know that one of Kim’s beauty secrets are eyelash extensions?

While Kim watchers might suspect the Keeping Up With The Kardashians bride-to-be uses Latisse to grow those lush long eyelashes, insiders have revealed that she goes with eyelash extensions which keep her eyes looking amazing.

Kim is envied for her lashes, but the reality is that anyone who has a good eyelash extension expert can get the same exact results.

The advantage of eyelash extensions versus Latisse is that while Latisse will grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker, the results are gradual rather than instant, which is the case with eyelash extensions.

Of course even though Kim has lush eyelash extensions applied she still uses fabulous mascara to pump up the volume even higher.  For nighttime she goes with even more dramatic results.  (more…)

Dealing With Aging Hands How To

When it comes to revealing a person’s age, hands down, the back of the hand is more telling than the face and neck. Fortunately, dermatologists are applying new technologies to add volume to the hand as well as remove dark brown “age spots” to reverse these telltale signs of aging.

At the American Academy of Dermatology’s Summer Academy Meeting 2011 in New York, dermatologist Dee Anna Glaser, MD, FAAD, director of cosmetic and laser surgery, vice-chairman and professor, department of dermatology at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Mo., presented the latest advances in treating the aging hand, including restoring volume with the use of fillers or a patient’s own fat and improving texture and overall skin tone with new laser technologies.

“As we age, our hands tend to lose their firmness and volume and the veins and tendons become more pronounced,” said Dr. Glaser. “In addition, changes in texture where the skin appears crinkled or is marked with spots, commonly called, liver spots or age spots, are the hallmarks of an aging hand.”

As more individuals become conscious of how their hands may disproportionately show their age, Dr. Glaser explained that dermatologists now are applying rejuvenation techniques to the hand that have long been successful in treating the face. While these techniques are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for treating the face, they are not yet approved for use on the hand. (more…)

Put Out The Fiery Heat Of Summer Which Causes Skin Sensitivity

According to the centuries-old Indian Ayurvedic philosophy, the hottest part of the summer and early fall represents the fire element.

Excessive fire in the environment can cause us to become imbalanced and is described by Ayurveda as the Pitta Dosha. At this time of year when there is a predominance of Pitta we can all experience some skin sensitivity and be prone to rosacea or acne.

The innovative formulations of the DoshaCare Customized Ayurvedic Skincare combine Ayurvedic philosophy with the best of Western technology to produce an effective and powerful hybrid.

DoshaCare educates consumers on their primary and secondary Doshas, allowing them to select the proper skincare regimen to achieve balance for their specific mental and physical characteristics.

Each DoshaCare product, made up of 98 percent natural and organic ingredients, comes from socially and environmentally sustainable sources and the brand has been certified as members of the Green Business Network.

The packaging yields to the highest standards of environmental responsibility, with post consumer recycled paper, soy ink and some of the packaging made with up to 70 percent recycled materials. (more…)

Get Gorgeous For Less – 10 DIY Beauty Tips And Tricks
by Cheryl Crosby

If you peek inside my beauty closet, you’ll find the latest and greatest hair and beauty products. And it’s really not my fault… As I flip through the pages of magazines, glossy ads are full of promises that if I try what they’re selling, I’ll be perfectly pretty from head to toe.

But after a while, the price of beauty becomes more than what my bank account can handle, and I’m left to figure out alternative ways to pamper myself without sacrificing the end result. Here are my favorite tips and tricks that will keep you looking like the glamour girl you are for a fraction of the cost!

1. Did you hit the snooze button too many times this morning and had no time to wash your hair? If you’re blonde, pour a little cornstarch based baby powder on your hands, turn your head upside down and use your fingers to tousle through the oily spots.  For brunettes, bronzer will do the same thing—you can even keep a compact in your purse for emergency oily hair fixes.

2. For lips that beg to be kissed, get a new toothbrush and apply a small amount of Vaseline petroleum jelly. Brush your lips gently to remove dry flaky skin. After brushing, put a little dab of peppermint oil on your lips to plump them before applying your gloss. (more…)

Get Glam In Any Light From Candlelight To A Nightclub

Even the very best make-up application can look bad in the wrong light.  If you plan your make-up around the location you’ll be showcasing it in, then you can look glam in any light from candlelight to nightclubs.

When possible try on any new make-up you might like to buy in a room with various lights.  Remember that natural light doesn’t lie.

Minimizing Impact Of Lights

When lights hit you from above, they create shadows on your face, particularly under the eyes.  Whether you’re inside or outdoors, try to stand behind the sun or away from overhead lights.  Whenever you can tilt your chin up slightly to minimize any casts.

In Candlelight

Candles even out skin and soften features.  Play up that luminous glow by mixing a dollop of pearly lotion with a sheer foundation.  Skip bronzers, which can look muddy.  in candlelight.

Consider an eye shadow in the eggplant shade family or similar, to pick up the flicks of the candle.  Finish lips with a great gloss which also will look great in candlelight. (more…)

The Importance Of Hydrating Your Hands

The Importance Of Hydrating Your Hands!

“National Clean Hands Week” is coming up. Throughout the week of September 21st-27th, hand hygiene will be celebrated with activities and educational programs nationwide!

We all know that hand washing is necessary to eliminate germs before preparing food, after using the bathroom, taking out the trash, and a host of other activities; but all that lathering up and scrubbing can strip the skin on your hands of its natural oils, causing dryness and irritation.

Good thing there’s AHAVA Mineral Hand Cream! Made with nourishing Dead Sea minerals, AHAVA Mineral Hand Cream (the hero product of the entire AHAVA line) is an extremely rich cream that instantly soothes chapped, dry and irritated skin.

It absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving a greasy feeling, and restores vitality for supple, softer and younger looking hands.

Do You Know Which UV Rays Can Accelerate Aging All Year Round?

Monday, August 1st, 2011

The hot summer temperatures are still consuming our days.  Sun lovers everywhere have been hitting the beach as often as they can.

However, while they’re lying on lounges or swimming in the ocean, it’s very hard to remain out of the sun’s harmful rays. We all know by now the importance of applying sunscreen, but we still get side tracked by the strength of the sun and can end up coming home looking like a burnt red tomato!

Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer and 65% of these cases can be attributed to damaging UV radiation, so it’s imperative to take extreme measures to prevent prolonged exposure.   Before baking in the sun it’s important for everyone to think about sun care, prevention and sunburn treatment.

The best way to take preventive sun care is to truly understand the different types of UV rays which consist of UVC, UVA and UVB.  You might be surprised to discover that UVA rays, originally thought to be safe, can be even more damaging than UVB rays.

What is the difference between UVC vs. UVA vs. UVB Rays?

UV rays are divided into three sections according to their wavelengths from the sun to the earth. The different UV rays act differently on your skin including.

1. UVC rays do not usually reach the earth’s surface because it’s absorbed by the ozone layer above the earth. Due to the depletion of the ozone layer it might be possible to receive UVC exposure. Only brief exposure can cause light sunburn. Prolonged exposure to UVC is considered fatal. (more…)
