Roux Anti-Aging Color Protect Shampoo Review

Let me start with a full disclosure about this review.

I'm literally bombarded on a daily basis with hair and beauty related press, all sort of offers to try new hair products and tons of unsolicited samples.

Over the past 15 years I've become so jaded by all the ridiculous hair press with false hair promises, media spin and obvious lies, I rarely pay attention.

Most of the time I don't even open the emails.

Imagine my surprise when a recent press release about Roux Anti-Aging Color Protect Shampoo made me stop and read the entire email.

I was intrigued.  I've used various Roux hair products for years and I really respect the company.

Buying Roux Anti-Aging Color Protect Shampoo At Sally Beauty #2518 On West Park

I contacted the press rep who was savvy enough to peak my attention. I asked for more information.

She kindly offered me free samples which I politely declined.

Instead, I got into my car and drove to the local Plano, Texas Sally Beauty where the sweet sales rep walked me to the furthest back corner of the store to find the new Roux Anti-Aging Color Protect Shampoo.

Not knowing me from Eve, the Sally sales rep was more than willing to answer my questions. She told me some of her long time customers had been using the new Roux Color Protect Shampoo and loved it.  She also told me for my hip length highlighted blonde hair it would be a good match.

To be fair, she wasn't trying to sell me on the product. I had asked her to help me find it and then followed up with a bunch of questions.

She seemed sincere and I overheard her tell another customer they should consider a different product than the one they were asking about. Definite points for service at Sally Beauty.

Incognito Roux Evaluation

Why didn't I just accept the gracious sample offers from the awesome Roux press rep? To be honest, I never accept samples because what happens if I don't like the products?

I certainly don't want to accept free samples and then bash the products. If I buy the product and hate it, no one is the wiser.  I've always followed the philosophy that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

My Honest Roux Anti-Aging Color Protect Shampoo Review

I am very picky about the products I will use on my hip length, blonde highlighted, naturally wavy/curly hair. For years I would only use ARTec because it worked the best for me.  When the company was sold, I hoarded all of the ARTec I could find.

After my stash of ARTec disappeared I started trying a bunch of different shampoo products. Some were better than others, some I really liked, but I didn't really love any of them.

My Wet Cleansing Routine

Roux-Blonde7_350hAlthough I wet wash my hair 1-2 times a week, I rarely use full strength shampoo.  I often dilute the shampoo, use water or conditioner only.

In between the wet washing sessions I use a variety of dry shampoo formulas with a cornstarch base.

I baby my naturally dry hair as much as possible allowing it to air dry unless there is a special event I'm attending. I wear my hair in a series of protective styles including braids and chignons.

Why I Like Roux Anti-Aging Color Protect Shampoo

There are many things I like about this new shampoo from Roux including:

1.  The packaging is simple, clean and easy to access - I love how the pleasing slate gray circular plastic shampoo bottle is topped by a clean white screw off top with matching lettering.

If you wish, you can dispense shampoo from the easy-to-use pop top.

2.  Easy to dilute - Since I like to dilute my shampoo I prefer bottles like the new Roux which allows me to unscrew the top and measure out how much shampoo I want to use on my hair.

3.  Affordable pricing - I paid $9.99 for a 10.1 Fl Oz bottle of shampoo plus 8.25% tax.  If you have a Sally's card (which I don't) or shop their sales, you can get the product for an even lower price.

Note:  I also bought the Roux Anti-Aging Color Protect Conditioner and Roux Anti-Aging Leave-in Treatment which I will be reviewing after a few more wet washing sessions.

4.  Clean, crisp aroma - My first whiff and I liked the clean, crisp aroma.

It doesn't have an overpowering or bland aroma which is distracting.

5.  Creamy formula - The shampoo has a nice creamy base.

6.  Acceptable Ingredients - The shampoo contains Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate.

I decided in order to do a fair test, I would apply the shampoo full strength to my roots and top of my fringe with a diluted mixture for the middle and ends.

Note:  Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate is an extremely mild cleanser which can be used as a primary or secondary surfactant by creating a dense, luxurious foam.

It has excellent water solubility properties, making it a good choice for cleansing systems which are sulfate-free.

Results On My Tests Of Roux Anti-Aging Color Protect Shampoo

Having purchasing the shampoo with my own private credit card at Sally Beauty, I felt free to be as critical as I wanted with the Roux shampoo.

After trying the product both diluted and full strength, I found that I really liked the product. It performed well in the shower in both the diluted and full strength formulations.

To give it a fair baseline test, I both air dried and blow dried my hair, after different variations of the wet washing.

My hair felt soft, hydrated and had great volume. I'm not sure how to define whether my hair felt stronger, but I'll confess it did seem brighter, shinier and vibrant.

I really enjoyed the way my hair felt after using the Roux Anti-Aging Color Protect Shampoo.

Could that really be true? Its true for me, so far after a few wet washings.

Everyone Has Different Needs For Their Hair

RouxAnti-Age2_250h Roux Anti-Aging Serums - Roux - All Rights Reserved

Will the Roux Anti-Aging Color Protect Shampoo work for everyone?  Probably not.

However, no shampoo I've ever heard of over the past 15+ years has ever offered a one-stop shop for every type, texture, condition and length of hair.

I think the shampoo, from a highly respected hair care company, will work for people with hair like mine which is naturally dry, textured and highlighted.

Whether you use your shampoo full strength or diluted, I believe the Roux Anti-Aging Color Protect Shampoo is worth a shot.

The aroma is nice, the product is priced attractively and it appears Roux put a lot of thought into creating a better alternative for thinning, dull, chronically dry hair suffering from ongoing breakage.

Summary - Roux Anti-Aging Color Protect Shampoo

I've been a fan of the Roux hair product line for years. My maternal Aunt Margie, who was a hairdresser, used Roux in her salon and on my mom's hair when I was a child.

When I read the press on the new Anti-Aging Color Protect Shampoo I decided to try the product on my own nickel and under the radar.

I can honestly say I enjoyed using the shampoo, both full strength and diluted. While I know not all products work for all people, I think Roux has a winner which many people may enjoy trying and using.

Roux Anti-Aging Color Protect Shampoo is available at your local Sally Beauty Supply store.
