Wavy Hair Summer Time How To

Wavy Hair Summer Hair How To

While some people think being born with naturally tousled wavy beach-ready style is a breeze, wavy hair has it's challenges. Wavy hair can misbehave at any time of the year, but even more so in the Summer months.

Heat and humidity can cause hair to fall flat, experience various forms of frizz and increase in natural dryness.

The Challenge Of Wavy Hair Shape

In some ways wavy hair is like curly hair. Why? Like curly hair, the cuticle of wavy hair doesn't completely close which means that much needed moisture may be lost which results in natural dryness. During summer months when moisture evaporates faster due to the heat, it's important to start with more hydration than other types of the year. It's also important to constantly replenish moisture as it's lost.

Wavy Hair How To Tips In Summer

The key is to keep waves properly hydrated without overdoing it so that hair becomes overly moisturized. Can that really happen? Yes, and when it does waves are weighed down and not able to form properly.

Also, overly moisturized hair may actually develop a unique form or frizziness from too much product. The key is to find a perfect balance.

Step By Step Wavy Hair Summer Time How To

Follow the steps below to care for wavy hair during summer time with the best possible results:

1. Skip daily shampoo sessions. Instead, consider spacing out your cleansing cycle to once a week or every 3-4 days.

2. Evaluate the option to shampoo utilizing a range of cleansing methods including, but not limited to Diluted Shampoo (DS), Loo Poo Formulas, Conditioner Only (CO) Wash, Water Only Rinse or a combination. Not using shampoo or a diluted version does not mean not cleansing the scalp and hair.

3. Always wash in lukewarm water, never hot. Cold water should be reserved for the final rinse to seal the cuticle.

4. Apply a rinse-out conditioner with slip to the hair from the top of the ears down to the ends in order after rinsing out shampoo or similar.

5. Detangle in the shower using fingers or wide tooth comb working from the ends to the roots. Detangle slowly. Rinse with lukewarm water.

6. Finish with a cool or cold water rinse to seal cuticle and encapsulate added moisture.

7. Towel blot rather than rubbing wet hair to remove excess moisture. Rubbing with a towel will cause friction and possibly frizz.

8. Apply a leave-in styling cocktail designed to smooth the cuticle, enhance waves and block frizz.

9. Separate hair into 8-10 horizontal sections and either set by braiding in an array of three strand waves to air dry and amp up waves or blow dry using a long finger diffuser. If blow drying with a wave enhancing diffuser attachment be sure to twirl each dried section and pin it to the scalp to let the waves cool and set.

10. To amp up waves before going to bed reset hair into an array of three strand braids for wavy results the next morning.

11. Frizz tends to form on the edges of waves. Keep ends trimmed to remove splits and avoid frizz.

Natural waves are more pronounced when hair is worn chin length to shoulder length with long layers chiseled into the length the natural texture to form. The shorter the length of naturally wavy hair, the more pronounced the waves, especially when hair is layered.

Refreshing waves is as easy as separating hair into 8-10 horizontal sections, spritzing with water and either blow drying with a long finger diffuser or setting hair in braids.

Styling options for natural waves are abundant. You can blow dry hair straight using a paddle brush. Or you can flat iron to create bone straight tresses. For a smoother set you can also do a wet set using large rollers and a hood dryer.
