Supermodel Eva Herzigova Enjoyed Great Hair Days During Recent Pregnancy

Last updated on February 23rd, 2015 by Karen Marie Shelton

People.com reports that Czech supermodel Eva Herzigova gave birth to a new baby boy, Philip, born on March 13th.  This is the second child for Herzigova and her partner Gregorio Marsiaj who also have a 3 1/2 year old George.

The Chelsea based model posed for the  April 2011 cover of British Harper’s Bazaar while she was pregnant.  Afterall, the baby bump is the new it fashion accessory for 2011.

Herzigova told Harper’s that she enjoyed some well-known beauty benefits of her pregnancy.  She said “being pregnant is less about being sexy than being sensual…You really blossom, especially in the first three months:  my hair and my skin were in great condition; my breasts were like ‘wow’; it was like I’d had a face lift and breast-enhancement surgery.  It’s amazing re-finding the body that you used to have in your 20s.”

Truth About Hair During Pregnancy

While thicker, fuller, shinier hair is sometimes a pregnancy benefit for some women, it’s not true for all.  Herzigova was one of the lucky ones.  The real truth is that the fluctuation of hormones during pregnancy can impact every head of hair differently.  While some like the supermodel will rejoice over estrogen fueled fast growth and fullness, for others the increased hormones will cause hair to fall out or rebel by becoming oily, lank, overly dry or frizzy.

Ironically pregnancy sometimes impacts hair texture causing normally straight strands to curl or curly strands to go limp.  Chemical hair treatments and hair color, while sometimes not always advised during pregnancy may not turn out as expected.

While some woman may enjoy fabulous hair days during pregnancy, others may stress about sudden hair loss which is often caused by low levels of iron, iodine and protein.

Whether your hair is fabulous or falls out, work with your doctor to construct a well-rounded nutritional plan during your pregnancy.  Treat your hair with extra tender loving care (TLC) by pampering it with scalp massage, regular deep conditioning and utilization of a good hair care system which encourage healthy tresses.

Not that Herzigova has given birth she may find her thick and lush hair beginning to fall out in clumps.  A majority of women experience accelerate hair loss somewhere between 2-6 months after giving birth.  This is due to an equalization of your hormones back to pre-pregnancy levels.  Don’t worry if it takes awhile for your hair to return to normal.  Depending on a variety of factors it can take anywhere from a few months to a few years.
