Mae Whitman Rocks Great Hair On NBC's Parenthood

Mae Whitman stars as Amber Holt, the bright, but rebellious teenage daughter of Sarah Braverman (Lauren Graham) in NBC's drama series "Parenthood."

Mae has below-the-shoulder rich brunette tresses which are thick and naturally wavy.  She has lighter chocolate brown highlights and darker auburn red lowlights.   Mae prefers to wear her hair in a side part with a side-swept fringe.

In the first season of Parenthood Mae's character Amber was angry and rebellious as a result of her parent's divorce.  Amber was a typical teen who was being forced against her will to relocate to a different town where she moved in with her grandparents.  Along the way Mae developed a major crush on her teacher who had a thing for her mother.  When Mae discovered the truth she was heartbroken.

After tangling with her cousin and other traumas Mae's Amber has grown up and become more polished.  Her hair reflects her attitude adjustment with sleeker and softer strands which sometimes she wears up in an edgy twist.

Mae Whitman's Acting Career

Whitman can be seen in the highly anticipated "Scott Pilgrim Versus The World," the film adaptation of the underground graphic novel sensation.  Whitman also starred opposite John Cusack in the thriller "The Factory," and can be seen in the Warner Bros. comedy "Spring Breakdown," with Amy Poehler, Parker Posey and Amber Tamblyn.  Most recently she played Diane Lane's daughter in "Nights in Rodanthe."

When Whitman was 3 ½ years old, she inadvertently wandered into her mother's commercial audition — and booked the job.  A year later she was cast in her first feature film, "When a Man Loves a Woman," starring Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia, followed by the comedy "Bye Bye Love," with Randy Quaid, Paul Reiser, and Amy Brenneman.

George Clooney's Daughter

Next came the record-breaking feature "Independence Day," appearing as the President's daughter.  "One Fine Day" was Whitman's fourth feature film (in which she played George Clooney's daughter).  Robert Altman and Kenneth Branagh introduced her to improvisation with "The Gingerbread Man."

In "Hope Floats" she worked alongside Sandra Bullock, Gena Rowlands and Harry Connick Jr.  Next came a trio of independents: the award-winning "American Rhapsody" with Scarlett Johansson; Henry Jaglom's "Going Shopping" and the festival hit "Bondage" with lleana Douglas and Michael Angarano.

Whitman continued to show her versatility with the suspense/horror picture "Boogeyman 2," and let her comedic chops shine as Ann Veal on the Emmy Award winning "Arrested Development."

Whitman traveled to New Orleans to shoot the six-part miniseries "Thief" with Andre Braugher.  She has guest-starred on "Grey's Anatomy," "Justice," "Desperate Housewives," "Cold Case," "Presidio Med," "Century City," "Judging Amy," "Friends," "Providence," "Early Edition," and PBS's acclaimed televised radio play, "Merry Christmas, George Bailey."

Her TV series credits include the title role in "State of Grace," and recurring roles in "Chicago Hope," "JAG" and "In Treatment."

Mae Whitman's Television Movies

Whitman's television movies include "Death in Paradise," "The Judds," "Degree of Guilt," "Invisible Child," "After Jimmy," and two for Hallmark: "A Season for Miracles," and "Love's Abiding Joy."

Whitman's love for cartoons continues as she voices the character of Katara in Nickelodeon's wildly successful anime-style series, "Avatar."

For Disney, she plays both Rose and her alter ego, Huntsgirl, on "American Dragon," and co-starred with Haley Joel Osment as the voice of Shanti in "Jungle Book 2."  Whitman currently resides in Los Angeles.

Daily Hair Tip
For a low maintenance style, try to work with your natural hair type rather than against it. For example, if your hair is naturally wavy, select a hairstyle that works easily with the waves.
