Ken Paves Reflects On VH1's Price Of Beauty

Earlier this evening I had an amazing interview with celebrity hairstylist Ken Paves who has been busy with Jessica Simpson promoting "The Price Of Beauty" on Vh1 which premieres tomorrow night (March 15, 2009, 10 EST/9 CST).

Before I even discuss Ken's comments about his amazing journey making the series I need to start at the very beginning which for me started last year in Los Angles.

It turns out I was in Los Angles to meet with Ken who was doing a series of photo shoots for his popular HairDo line.  At one point I was having coffee at a popular West Hollywood Starbucks when I first heard Vh1 had just approached Ken to join forces with Jessica to film "Price Of Beauty" for the network.

Of course Ken was thrilled for the opportunity.

Not only would he be given the opportunity to travel the world with his best friend Jess, he would be able to continue along his path to help women truly discover their own unique beauty.

At the time I was in LA Ken was beyond excited to be part of this project for Vh1.

Of course I was sworn to absolute secrecy at the time and could not share Ken's amazing news.  It wasn't until today that Ken gave the okay for me to finally reveal what I knew all along about the amazing project.

Unlike Ken's role in the original "Newylweds" where he appeared randomly, for "The Price Of Beauty" Vh1 decided he was important as a key participant with Jessica on the show.

Afterall, Ken is an Internationally known hair and beauty expert who understands "better than most the traumas women endure to be beautiful".

He sees firsthand "the insecurities, personal pain and angst women experience from all walks of life due to the pressures they experience to fit into a certain mode of what is defined as beauty".

Also, Ken has been by Jessica's side for many years and been her support during all the various unfair and vicious media attacks levied against the beautiful star for a vast number of imagined transgressions ranging from her weight to the color of her hair and even the fashions she's designed.

Once Jessica, who was the executive producer of "Price Of Beauty", started brainstorming the series, Jessica decided the journey and the show wouldn't be complete without her other bestie Cacee Cobb.

Indeed in a lot of ways the trio are like the three Musketeers and certainly it wouldn't make sense without all of them.  It would feel like something was missing.

Ironically I first met Ken, Jessica and Cacee almost eight years ago in Dallas at a Seventeen Magazine photo shoot.  To watch the various journey's they have all taken has been truly a special experience.  I was taken back them by the way the three friends were so close and connected.

That connection has only deepened and matured over the years.  These are three people who are more then professional associates or peers.  They are true best friends who have been there for each other through thick and thin.  Through all the media's rumors and innuendos, Ken, Jessica and Cacee have preserved separately and together.

I had the good fortune to just preview the first episode of "Price Of Beauty" and if you doubt for a moment Ken, Jessica and Cacee are acting...they're not.

Every time I have been around the trio, they are exactly the same as they appear on the show.  Of course the show had to be scripted to some extent to create a framework and make sure each trip covered important experience.  But the reactions of the trio is solid reality.  Each scene rang completely true for me.

More importantly, it's obvious how important this project was to all three of them.  As Ken explained, "his longtime career working with celebrities such as Jessica" has "given me a voice" as a beauty authority and the ability to really understand the importance of helping women find their own uniqueness.

Ken is so appreciative of "the honor" to be able "to share in this amazing journey" and be able to "help spread the message of beauty" so that by the end of this series "every woman in this country will see themselves as beautiful."
