Stephen Colbert Entertained With Humor At 2010 Grammy Awards

Last updated on February 13th, 2015 by Karen Marie Shelton

Oddly, the Grammy Awards didn’t have a host or hostess. Have they ever?  I can’t remember, but I thought in the past they have had at least a series of hosts and hostesses.

Grammy nominated Stephen Colbert opened the extravaganza 3 1/2 hour show with a very funny monologues at least for a more serious show like the Grammys.

Stephen told the star studded crowd that the Grammys represent a celebration of our most precious right: “the right of celebrities to congratulate each other.” He said Pink, the Black Eyed Peas and Green Day should form a supergroup, the Pink Eyed Green Peas.

Addressing one of the music industry’s biggest 2009 sensations, Susan Boyle (“I Dreamed a Dream”) he said that after Justin Timberlake brought sexy back, she sent it away again. And he noted the irony of the music industry, which always strives to be hip, being saved “by a 48-year-old Scottish cat lady with sensible shoes.”

Stephen Colbert who presented the first Grammy award of the evening pulled out the new Apple device instead of an envelope to present the show’s award for “Song of the Year.”

Colbert  jokingly called out to Jay-Z who was sitting int he audience and said “did you not get one of these in your gift bag?” and asked his own daughter, Madeline, also in attendance, if she finally thought he was cool.

He then presented the award for “Song of the Year” to Beyonce and team for “Single Ladies.”
