Ellen Told Oprah Adam Lambert Showed Too Much Tongue

When Ellen appeared on Oprah's show on Monday, November 9, 2009 she talked about a wide range of topics including her upcoming gig as the fourth judge on American Idol.

She told Oprah, who asked her what she would be like as a judge, she was going to "just be herself" and would not necessarily be funny or serious because she's not funny or serious all the time in her real life.  She would be who she is.

She said she had no problem with confrontation with Simon or any of the other judges which was "new for her" at this point in her life, but she was going to go in as honest as possible.  She said she felt she was truly representing the home viewers who ultimately vote for the winner.

Ellen also told Oprah she has discovered she's "a lot pickier" than she originally thought she was and will give "honest" feedback.  She gave as example the most recent American Idol winner, Adam Lambert, who Ellen said "showed too much tongue."  Ellen said at some point Adam needed to stop showing off his tongue and she would have told him that if she had been a judge at that point.

The funny lady made it clear thatAmerican Idol approached her.  She told Oprah that Ellen didn't pursue the judge position at all.  She said it came to her and not the other way around.  She also said she didn't want people to think she went after Paula's (Abdul) job because she didn't at all.

Ellen also talked about what happened to her career after she first came out.  She said she was unemployed for three years during that period of time after her first Ellen Degeneres show was cancelled.  Ellen also talked about why it was important for her to come out of the closet and how initially there was concern that her current talk show would bomb because TV stations didn't initially want to pick it up.
