Curly Hair Committment - Alex Kingston

Alexandra "Alex" Kingston was born March 11, 1963 in Epsom, Surrey. Alex was inspired to pursue acting by one of her teachers at the all-girls grammar school, Rosebery School for Girls.

This gorgeous English actress is most widely known for her role as Elizabeth Corday on the NBC medical drama ER. Alex, as she is commonly called, is also known for her rich luscious natural curls.

Alex gained American television fame after being cast on the medical drama ER at the start of the fourth season. Her character Elizabeth Corday was a British surgical fellow arriving from England.

She played this role for just over seven seasons until leaving in 2004, four episodes into Season 11. In 2009, Kingston returned to ER for two episodes (including the series finale) during its 15th and final season.

At the time Elizabeth left the show in 2004 there was a buzz that she did not wish to leave but the writers and producers said that her character had gone as far as they could take her.  Elizabeth questioned the true reasons she was written off ER but managed to leave gracefully so that she was invited back for the final season.

In November 2005, Alex Kingston appeared in the long-running drama series Without A Trace (season 4 episode 6), cast as the distressed wife of a wealthy American man snatched by a Mexican street gang on the last night of their honeymoon who later turns out to be the person who masterminded the kidnapping.

In 2006, Alex claimed she was turned down for a role on ABC's Desperate Housewives for being too curvy. In the same article, she admits to considering and nearly attempting suicide after her split with ex-husband Ralph Fiennes (who left her for another woman).

Even more importantly, unlike other naturally curly haired actresses, the lovely actor has honored her commitment to her natural curls.  Over the years she has flaunted her ringlets both on and off the air.

Some actresses famously ditch their natural coils as their careers catch fire.  Whether famous thespians ditch their curls because of the roles they capture or because of the pressure from their entourage may never be known.

In the case of Alex Kingston it appears she has always managed to find a way to keep her gorgeous curls.  Kudos to Alex for honoring her ringlets.
