SAG 2009 Outstanding Performance By Female Actor In Drama Series

Yesterday afternoon I watched a very recent TIVO version of a recent Ellen Degeneres show with 2009 Screen Actors Guild  (SAG) Nominee Kyra Sedgwick.  The 2009 SAG Awards are scheduled to be broadcast Sunday, January 25, 2009 on TNT and TBS.

Ellen made a point of asking Kyra if she was going to be escorted to the Screen Actor's Guild Awards by her husband, actor Kevin Bacon.  Kyra said she was and laughed about the fact it takes her "2 1/2 to 3 hours to get ready but it only takes Kevin about ten minutes".

Ellen also said that the SAG Awards is considered to be one of the "fun awards shows".  According to Ellen and Kyra it's one of the better awards shows that occur during the year.  Kyra said the show is relatively short and it's a great show to be invited to.

My biggest challenge with the SAGs is trying to figure out who will win in the various categories.  Especially in the category of Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor in a Drama Series.  This is so hard because there are so many great actresses in the running for 2009.  I actually love all of them.

Nominees For Best Female Actor In Drama Series Category

The list for Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor includes Kyra Sedgewick for her role as Chief Brenda Lee Johnson in TNT's The Closer.  Holly Hunter is also nominated for her role a TNT's Grace Hanadarko in Saving Grace. Sally Field is Nora Walker in Brothers & Sisters on ABC, Mariska Hargitay is Detective Olivia Benson in Law & Order:  Special Victims Unit on NBC.

Finally, Elisabeth Moss is nominated for her role as Peggy Olson on AMC's Mad Men.

All I can is that I am very happy I don't have to vote because I would be incredibly hard pressed.  Believe it or not, I watch all of the shows and have from the beginning.

Watching AMC's Mad Men has been more of a challenge because it is not normally available on the Web and I have a hard time seeing the shows.  After Season One I bought the complete DVD collection and still watch on a regular basis.  I will be springing for Season Two as well.

Best Hair - Hairstyles Representing Each Character

While it might be easier to vote based on "best hair" that would be totally inappropriate and not really that much easier.  Each of the characters does a very good job of wearing hairstyles which represent their characters.

I especially love how "hair challenged" Detective Brenda Lee Johnson is and how well she portrays her various "bad hair days".  This is a total departure from the actress, Kyra Sedgewick who is a well-known hair and fashion icon.

The same is true with Holly Hunter who looks completely different as Grace than she does off-screen.

Of course while I'm positive the majority, if not all of the nominated actresses have a major say in their hair and make-up for their characters, ultimately the work is done by their behind the scenes hair and make-up teams who all do an amazing job of transforming the actresses into their characters.

Fantastic Actresses

Hair, make-up and fashions aside, all of the actresses are fantastic and amazing.  I can't wait to see who wins. I think Sally Field is amazing as the irritating but lovable mom of the crazy drama filled Walker family and Elisabeth Moss managed to hide a pregnancy in plain sight, fall in love with a true cad and manage to become "one of the boys" in the "good old days."

Of course the great thing about the Screen Actor's Guild is that the voters all the peers of the people nominated.  To win an award from your acting peers has to be more impressive than winning some of the other awards.

I have to also mention that another impressive thing about the SAG Awards is that they are very Web2.0 Savvy.  You can follow the official SAG Award site on Facebook and via Twitter.  How great is that?
