Although I never watched the Big Brother Reality TV show before, one of my Followers on Twitter told me I really needed to check out the show.  So I did.

After watching just a few of the episodes on OnDemand I was hooked in a big way.

I must say its one of those Love/Hate Reality TV Shows.  You hate that you love it but you hate not to watch it because you love the bizarre antics of the cast members.

History Of Big Brother

Big Brother (which has been on TV since 1997 when it was first broadcast in the Netherlands.  It has been a prime time hit in over 70 countries for the past 10+ years.

The reality TV show follows a group of people (male and female of all ages) living together in a house outfitted with dozens of cameras and microphones recording their every move, 24 hours a day.

One by one, the Houseguests vote each other out of the house.  At the end of three months, the last remaining Houseguest will receive the Grand Prize of $500,000.

The show's name comes from George Orwell's 1949 dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Predefined Cliques

For the 11th and current edition of Big Brother the players have been divided into four pre-determined high school style cliques.  The cliques were defined as the following:

Athletics - Jeff, Natalie, Russell

Jeff played college football and is an advertising salesman, Russell is an Mixed Martial Arts fighter and Natalie is a Tae Kwon Do world champion.

Brains - Michele, Ronnie, Chima

Michele is a neuroscientist with a Ph.D.  Casey is a 41 year old teacher. Chima is a freelance journalist with tons of hair.  Ronnie was originally considered a brainiac but he was also defined as off-beat due to his addiction to video games which he admitted he played 6 hours a day.

Popular Crowd - Braden, Jordan, Laura

The popular crowd contains the best looking members of the cast.  It includes the male model/actor and surfer boy Braden as well as the bikini model Laura.   Jordan is a very pretty small town girl.

Offbeat - Kevin, Lydia, Casey

Kevin is an openly gay graphic designer/former Jehovah's Witness. Lydia is a widely tattooed make-up artist and special effects expert. Casey is a 41 year old teacher.

Mysterious Four - Big Brother 11 had a unique twist besides dividing the players into cliques.  The twist was the addition of a 13th houseguest picked from a pool of four previous Big Brother houseguests.

The previous four BB candidates for the 13th position was Cowboy Ellis from Big Brother5, Jessica from Big Brother8, Brian from Big Brother10 and Jesse from Big Brother 10.

These past BB houseguests were revealed in the first episode and besides all being from previous BB seasons, fit into one of the four cliques.

The Wedgie Challenge

The new BB 11 house guests were given what was known as the "wedgie" challenge.  The clique that won then had the 13th player added to their group.

In the first "wedgie" challenge (image of wedgies to the side) the Athletic clique won and therefore bodybuilder Jesse Godderz was named the 13th Houseguest and the first Head of the Household (HOH) and he was assigned to the athletic clique - natch.
