Pauley Perrete Of NCIS - Hair From Goth

Introduction

NCIS absolutely rocks. Yeah sez who? Sez me who watches so many television shows that I should qualify for a pass into the hidden Land Of One Hour Shows in Hollywood where actors toil 18 hours a day, six or seven days a week.

Everything about NCIS takes my breath away and I'm not Mr. Palmer (Brian Dietzen) falling down a very bumpy hill in a recent episode while wearing loafers.

The show is brilliant. I am hard pressed to pick my favorite character or story line. If I were being tortured as some of the characters on NCIS have been in the past, I guess I would confess that I adore Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and Agent Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette). Actually, what I love about both characters is their interaction with each other.

Abby, played by the exuberant and wildly quirky Pauley is a brilliant black-clad Goth attired scientist. She is extremely gifted in a mind boggling array of forensic related disciplines. Even though Abby is dressed way over the top, she is totally on top of her job in every way.

Gibbs is the no-nonsense boss who strikes fear into the hearts of his team, except Abby, with a single glance.

Abby, whom Gibbs affectionally calls "Abs" exhibits a playful side when engaged in verbal banter with her ever so serious boss. Not only does Gibbs respect Abby's obvious genius, he blatantly ignores her spiked Gothic accessories while bribing her with atomic sized caffeinated drinks that could easily buzz up a small army.

In return for his gifts of super sized drinks, Abs hangs out in her high tech lab processing photos, hacking into all types of computers and zooming in on DNA, all the while listening to ear splitting music.

The writing on the show is spectacular with each plot more engrossing and shocking than the next. Normally I get bored just watching television. I usually multi-task while listening to a variety of shows. Not so with NCIS. I can't miss a second or else I am quickly in the weeds and not able to follow the fast paced crime solving action.

Whether the crackerjack team is delving into the scary world of espionage or dealing with murder, terrorism or other acts of human degradation, the plot lines are moving at warp speeds.

The only problem I ever have Abby on NCIS is that there just isn't enough of her. I love her totally irreverent attire, her nocturnal habit of sleeping in coffins and her in-you-face spunkiness. I just wish she had a bigger role. At one point when it was announced that Sasha Alexander (Kate) was leaving the show I hoped that Abby would be given a much bigger role. Alas, it was not to be.

The Hair In The Lab

Although Pauley had a previous life as a natural blonde with curly tresses, her NCIS hair is jet black to match her high tech Goth girl image. The pitch black hair goes well with her stark white skin and blood red lipstick.

To add to her extreme appearance, the show's hairdresser coif her just-to-the-shoulder tresses in an array of funky pigtails and ponytails that work beautifully with her lab coat, kinky knee socks, spikey dog collars, tattoos and black fashions.

Polly has been quoted in the media as saying that "I actually have curly hair. Someone else made it look like this. And I'm blonde. I don't think I'm ever going to get this out of my hair. I could grow my blonde roots out to here and be half-blonde, but I would look like a skunk."

Pauley was born in New Orleans (March 27, 1969) and moved 14 times as a child when her father's job took the family all over the country. A huge fan of education, forensic science and true crime, Pauley studied for a Master's degree in Criminology at Georgia State University in Atlanta before moving to New York City to pursue acting.

Working at a number of jobs, including bartending, photographer and as a hair and make-up stylist, Pauley eventually found work in commercials and music videos before working in acting. She had a recurring role on Murder One and appeared as Drew's girlfriend on The Drew Carey Show. She was also on Jesse.

Pauley guest starred on Frasier, Early Edition and Moloney. She appeared in Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion, The Cowboy Way and the independent films, The Price of Kissing and Angle.

Steal Her Look

To recreate Pauley's stick straight style complete the following steps:

STEP 1 Pauley's hair has been colored for years due to a variety of different roles. Celebrity Hairdresser Robert Hallowell suggested that Pauley might benefit from a regular conditioning program.

He recommended that she use his love that shine treatment elixer on a regular basis. The rich mix of essential oils with hydrolyzed silk creates a perfect recipe for incredible shine! The product contains honey fruit complex for adding shine and moisture.

To protect bleached, blonde highlighted or colored tresses, start by dousing hair completely with lukewarm water. Keep in mind that hotter temperatures will speed up fading and dry hair even further. Select a super moisturizing shampoo formula like Robert Hallowell's Shine Booster Shampoo which Robert actually uses on Caitlin's tresses.

STEP 2

After one application of shampoo, rinse well. Keep in mind that if shampoo is not completely removed, a soap film will remain on your strands and cause them to be dull or hard to manage.

When you have finished rinsing your strands gently squeeze out any excess water with your fingers. Apply your favorite rinse-out conditioning product. Robert recommends that Pauley would benefit from Robert Hallowell's Prawduct - shine booster conditioner for her hair because it has a perfect moisturizing balance.

Be sure to match the product to your hair type, texture and condition. Work the conditioner into the driest parts of your hair. Leave on for up to five minutes. Rinse well. Finish with a cool to cold water rinse.

STEP 3

Towel blot your strands to remove excess drippage. Apply your favorite detangling product or leave-in conditioning product based on your type, texture and current condition of your strands.

Keep in mind that if you have fine or thin strands, you will want to use a very light detangling spray. For medium to thicker strands, use a heavier conditioning product.

STEP 4

To recreate Pauley's sleek straight style, be sure to apply a straightening balm like Robert Hallowell's Flat Factor which Robert currently uses on all of the celebrities he currently works with who want stick straight strands.

Distribute a dime-sized dollop of the product into the palms of your hands and mix well. Use your fingers to work the product completely through your tresses.

STEP 5

Separate your hair into 2" sections and blow dry with a large paddle or flat brush, starting near the back of the head and working around to the front on either side.

(Pauley Perrete - CBS - all rights reserved).

Robert recommends a large paddle style brush because "it allows you to blow dry and straighten a large amount of hair at the same time".

Beginning at the back of your head, blow-dry hair in half-inch pieces using a large round brush. STEP 6

To create a super straight finish, use a hot flat iron to touch up any sections that require a smoother texture.

STEP 7

If desired, spray lightly with the hairspray of your choice. Finish with Robert's love that shine spray. Apply to the palms of your hands and lightly brush across the surface of your hair

STEP 8

For a different look, follow Pauley's lead and separate hair into two different sections and create a traditional set of pigtails. Add desired hair accessories such as accent clips.

Summary

Pauley Perrette is beyond delightful as the brilliant Abby on NCIS. Don't miss her riveting performance along with the rest of the NCIS team every week on CBS (Check your local TV listings for dates and times). Watch for her upcoming role in 2006 as Marie Flowers in Satan Hates You.
