Jane Reviews Matrix's MoistureRich Fusion Shampoo & Conditioner

Introduction

My hair is short, thick, coarse, and grows fast. In fact, I have to get trims every two weeks whether I like it or not! I have to be careful that the products I use don’t make it heavier than it is already; I hate that "helmet head" look on me! I’ve used a number of hair products for years, and a good friend, Karen Shelton, introduced me to the Matrix line.

Hey, I’m all for change, so I tried the shampoo and conditioner a few weeks ago. I’ve liked them so well that I haven’t used anything else since! A breakdown of my experiences with the products follow.

Matrix MoistureRich Fusion Shampoo

This shampoo gets high marks for lather. Maybe it’s just me, but if a shampoo doesn’t lather well, I don’t feel it’s doing its job. Since my hair tends to be dry, I wanted something to really hydrate my hair and make it feel lighter. The shampoo rinses out easily, and amazingly, leaves no tangles.

Usage

To activate the shampoo, apply it to wet hair and massage it in. Rinse thoroughly, then follow with MoistureRich Fusion Conditioner.

Matrix MoistureRich Fusion Conditioner

The conditioner is a real spa-experience! It feels so silky and rich on the hair, and I like to leave mine on until I’m finished showering, then rinse it out. When I used it the first time, it felt so luxurious that I thought it might leave my hair heavy and flat. I was WRONG! Incredibly, it left my hair light, easy to manage, and very soft. I was able to style lots of height in it using my blow-dryer, and best of it, it stayed great-looking all day!

Usage

After shampooing, squeeze out about a quarter-sized blob in your hand, and massage it into wet hair. Rinse out completely.

Packaging

The packaging for the Matrix MoistureRich Fusion line is very eye-appealing. The shampoo comes in a clear plastic bottle so you can see its delightful clear periwinkle color. The bottle itself is easy to hold and use with wet hands.

The conditioner comes in a light, steel-gray plastic bottle, the same shape and design as the shampoo bottle. Overall, the packaging makes you want to pick up the bottles, open them, and smell their incredible fragrance.

Fragrance

The scent of these products are wonderful; fresh, with a hint of flowers and herbs, and not at all heavy. The fragrance of both the shampoo and conditioner made my whole shower a refreshing and rejuvenating experience! I don’t care for any products that have an overpowering smell; these are subtle and pleasing, and give an overall fresh scent.

How I Tested These Products

I shower in the early morning after working out. I like a shampoo and conditioner gentle enough to use every day if necessary; you can with the Matrix MoisureRich Fusion line.

I poured a small amount of shampoo into one hand—did I mention that the bottles are easy to handle with wet hands?--then massaged it into my hair. It makes TONS of silky lather! The scent of the shampoo made my shower seem like an aromatherapy session, and my hair and scalp felt great.

After rinsing the shampoo out, I put a small amount (about a quarter-sized blob) of the conditioner in my hand and applied it to my hair. The fragrance was as good as the shampoo’s, and the lather was absolutely velvety. Now, having short hair, about the only fun styling I get to do is with sudsed-up hair in the shower. Let me tell you, this conditioner makes great "shower horns!" I left it (and the horns) on for the duration of my shower, and it rinsed out beautifully. Again, as with the shampoo, I could run my fingers through my clean, wet hair, and found no tangles.

After towel-drying my hair, my usual routine is to comb it straight back, then comb my bangs down and start blow-drying. My hair wants to grow straight forward from the crown of my head, giving me that oh-so-sexy Moe Howard look I despise. So I have to fight this tendency each day, blow-drying it straight back, leaving the bangs. To my amazement, after using the Matrix products I didn’t have to struggle with my hair! Not only did it style easily, but it kept the style all day!

After weeks of using the Matrix products, I highly recommend them for people with ornery hair like mine. (The lingering fragrance alone is worth using them!) The Matrix folks are not kidding about how manageable the products make your hair.

Usually the "instant manageability" gimmick glibly used by so many hair products is geared toward fine, limp or thin hair that really needs the extra boost. However, my hair is a different story, and the Matrix products really do what they promise—"….the enriched formula moisturizes internally without coating or weighing down hair."

Conclusion

I’ve used the Matrix MoistureRich Fusion shampoo and conditioner on my hair (washing once a day) for nearly a month. I am happier with these two products than I have been with similar products in the past.

With my hair type, it takes a special product to work for me, and I wasn’t disappointed with Matrix. It works beautifully on my kind of hair.

Remember, these results are for my hair. But if you have hair similar to what I describe, you really should give these products a chance. My hair has never been as soft, shiny, and style-able as it has been with Matrix.
