Origins No Deposit Shampoo & Knot Free Finishing Rinse Conditioner

Introduction

Cool shampoo and conditioner alert!! I tried Origins No Deposit Shampoo and Knot Free Finishing Rinse Conditioner, and LOVED them!! I even loved the text on the bottles (more on that later). These products are made by Origins Natural Resources, (owned by Estee Lauder) Dist. out of New York, London, Paris, and Munich.

KnotFreeT.jpg (4130 bytes)My hair is short, thick, and coarse, so I am always on the lookout for good hydrating shampoos and conditioners.

Since my current hairstyle is the Bed Head, I need something that will handle the daily buildup of hair-spiking products I use to keep the look. These two Origin products do not disappoint, and also give me that "spa" experience I crave.

Origins No Deposit Shampoo

The principle behind this shampoo is that, after using the same old products week after week, your hair stops responding in its usual way.

You know how it is; one day you've got that purple Mohawk riding high and proud on your head, then the next day it's flopping limply in your face like a wine-stained dishrag.

I'll quote what the bottle says: "Hair simply tires …acts drab, disinterested. Too pooped to stay in shape." (I'd love to meet whoever writes the text; it's clever, funny, and it gets my attention.)

So anytime your hair gets as sullen as a teenager grounded on a Saturday night, try the Origins No Deposit Shampoo to give your hair new life. It is recommended that you use it once a week, or anytime you or your hair need a lift.

Usage

Use a small amount (I always go for the quarter-sized glob) of the shampoo on wet hair and massage it in. Not only does it lather up beautifully, but the refreshing tang of the grapefruit and French peppermint essences revitalizes both hair and spirit.

Rinse thoroughly, then follow with Origins Knot Free Finishing Rinse Conditioner.

Origins Knot Free Finishing Rinse Conditioner

This conditioner is fabulously thick and rich without being greasy. When your hair acts cranky, especially on humid days, Origins Knot Free Finishing Rinse Conditioner soothes and smoothes it back in shape. It's a good weekly drink to nourish and refresh your hair. The conditioner is specially formulated to handle snarls, frizzies, flyaways and other nasties with its herbal formula.

I usually leave conditioner on my hair until I’m finished showering, then rinse it out. You can also leave it in for as little as one minute to get the same silky effects. I was impressed by how luxurious it felt on my hair, and even after towel-drying, my hair felt satiny.

Usage

After shampooing, squeeze a small amount of conditioner (a little goes a long way) into your hand, and apply it to wet hair. Distribute it evenly and leave it in for a minute or two, then rinse.

Packaging

Origins packaging for these two products is clean and functional with simple black lettering and white tops. (The font chosen for the word "Origins" somehow suggests jungles and rainforests. Don't ask me how they do it, but I'm a fool for the power of suggestion.)

The shampoo comes in a translucent plastic bottle with beautifully rendered slice of grapefruit pictured on the front. The product itself is thick and honey-colored, and the main fragrance is grapefruit.

The conditioner is in a white plastic bottle with a delicious-looking peach half drawn on the front. The product is rich and white, and delicately peach-scented.

Fragrance

The shampoo has such a heavenly grapefruit scent that I kept the top off the bottle as I wrote this article. Quite honestly, I wish they made a perfume that smelled this good!

The conditioner’s main scent is fresh peaches, with a nice background of peppermint. I loved using these products--both for the way they revitalized my hair, and for the free aromatherapy session in my shower! They give your hair a wonderful but elusive fresh scent.

How I Tested These Products

My usual morning routine, after feeding the cat and exercising (me, not the cat), is to hop into the shower. I usually wash my hair every other day, so I like a shampoo that's gentle enough for frequent use.

Since my hair is on the dry side, I like a rich-feeling conditioner, but I don't want one that weighs my hair down. My Bed Head hairstyle requires the hair to be spiked all over, so my hair has to be light enough to stand up and stay up. Many conditioners I've tried have left a heavy residue that leaves me with the hated helmet-head.

The shampoo is gentle enough for every day, but I personally feel I would like to use it as suggested; once a week to correct any hair blahs. I was able to do a good field test with the Origins No Deposit Shampoo. I hadn't washed my hair in two days, I'd gone to a fast-food restaurant that day so my hair was scented with French fries and burgers, plus I had a massage at night so my hair was also coated with jasmine oil (just imagine what a pretty sight and smell that was!).

I absolutely loved the grapefruit scent of the shampoo, and the lather does wonders for washing away gel and hairspray residue. The combined scents of grapefruit and French peppermint are invigorating, and my scalp felt refreshed.

After rinsing out the shampoo, I applied a small blob of the Origins Knot Free Finishing Rinse on my hair and really worked it in. The conditioner's main scents are peach, lemon, and peppermint, so you feel you're getting an extra-luxurious hair and scalp treatment.

I left it on throughout my shower, and when I rinsed, my hair felt like heavy Chinese silk. There was no trace left of hairspray, French fries, or jasmine oil! Again, though you can certainly use this every day, I would save it for a once-a-week treatment.

The ultimate test of any new shampoo and conditioner I test is how it looks and feels after styling.

After towel-drying my hair, I apply my Bed Head gel to my hair, and blow dry it for about a minute. After that comes the heavy-duty Bed Head spray, which holds the hair within an inch of its life. Over time these products can make the hair feel dry, but after using the Origins products, my hair felt beautifully soft.

I can't say enough good things about these products! I had great results with my hair, and my educated guess is that any type of hair would benefit immensely using Origins. If you have a permanent or coloring or both, I'd recommend the soothing and hydrating effects you get from these two products.

Interesting factoid - Both the shampoo and conditioner bottles are printed with "Please return to the Origins counter for recycling" on them. It's good to know that this kind of ecological awareness exists in the industry.

Conclusion

Both the Origins No Deposit Shampoo and Knot Free Finishing Rinse Conditioner are great products, and I was impressed by the results I got with my own hair. As I mentioned earlier, I believe that these are gentle enough to use every day, but I feel they are much more effective used once per week, or as needed.

I am continually amazed and encouraged by the quality of hair products today. When I was growing up, it seemed you had a choice of Prell or Breck, and no one I knew ever used a conditioner. Those of us with thick, coarse hair had to resort to homemade oil olive treatments to get any appreciable softness in our hair.

My standard proviso when I test any product is to state that the results I've written about are for my own hair. However, I feel that Origins No Deposit Shampoo and Knot Free Finishing Rinse Conditioner will work for most hair types, and would be wonderful for permed and/or color-treated hair.

Your own results may vary from mine, but I hope you like these products as much as I did!

Origins also makes Happy Endings Conditioner, Take Control Styling Gel, The Last Straw Conditioning Shampoo and Don't Get Stiffed Alcohol-Free Hair Spray.
