Metallic Fashions Are Sexy Sizzle

Introduction

Alyssa Milano ABC Castle 1/11/10

One of the key fashion trends of the current 2009 party season is a reworked modern version of metallics.

Whether the metallics are gold, silver, brass or the sizzling hot gunmetal, the material is showing up on everything from short sassy mini dresses to full length gowns. They're even showing up on the sexy new jumpsuits.

Depending on the design, the new metallics are embellished with an array of sequins and paillettes ranging from tiny to full blown. One of the keys to utilizing metallics is to understand if your goal is blinding sizzle or just a hint of sexy sass.

Metallics, if worn in the right hue to complement your hair and eyes, can make you feel incredibly sexy. Actress Jessica Lowndes told Life & Style Magazine last fall that "sequins make you feel like a movie star."

The beautiful brunette actress said "I feel confident, sexy and strong" when she wears metallics.

Can anyone wear metallics? Yes, but depending on your figure, the event, your age or coloring, you might want to limit metallics to just a top or bottom or accessories like headbands, hair flowers, handbags, shoes or even the new large jeweled necklace collars.

The newest metallics are younger, hipper and a little more dangerous. The look isn't delicate. It's tough.

Big embellished necklaces, earrings and accessories can look fantastic but not when combined with a full metallic gown.

Metallics can be turned down or up. Try a beaded tank underneath a jacket or sparkly hose.

Avoid looking stodgy and overdone. Don't be afraid of head to toe shine.

Back To Sandra's Bob

When I look at Sandra's sizzling sleek hairstyle I am amazed by the fact that the actress has naturally curly hair. Over the years it has been reported that the actress has undergone a variety of relaxing and chemical straightening treatments for her natural ringlets.

Sandra's People's Choice Hairstyle was expertly styled so that it fell slightly forward into seductive soft bend with beautiful movement and body.

Over the years Sandy has captured headlines with her ever changing hair lengths, hues, parts and hair styles. What fan doesn't remember Sandra's famous below-the-chin bob from 2006 and 2007?

She has also experimented in the past with a wide range of parts from center and off-center to no parts at all. She has also worn her tresses highlighted and lowlighted with a range of chocolates, auburns and caramels with varying textures.

If you look closely you will be able to see that Sandra's dark chocolate brown tresses have been very carefully highlighted and lowlighted to add the illusion of fullness and depth.

One thing is pretty clear, Sandra keeps changing up the texture from sleek and straight to undulating ripples of soft waves.

For her movie roles Sandy often wears her hair in an array of finished and sleek classic styled ponytails or chignons.

Hairstyle: Sleek Off The Side Hairstyle

One ongoing question about Sandra or any Hollywood star is whether or not they utilize any type of wigs or add-on hair for various hairstyles.

Looking closely at Sandra's photos in this article it doesn't appear obvious she has add-on strands, but with the options available in today's add-on hair market it's often hard to tell.

If I had to guess I might say there has not been hair added to increase Sandra's volume but only her celebrity hairdresser knows for sure.

Hairstyle Color: Warm dark chocolate brown base

Hairstyle Highlights/Lowlights: If you look closely you will see what appears to be ribbons of caramel highlights with deep auburn lowlights which give Sandra's hair warmth, depth and rich lush movement.

The auburn highlights placed against the soft chocolate base also helps to bring out a blinding shine.

Texture: Sandra appears to have medium to medium thick hair in excellent shape with either natural bend or natural waves. Her hair appears to have very slight layers skillfully placed around the perimeter of her hairstyle.

For the Red Carpet her hair is usually styled with lots of body and some volume built in around the crown. For less formal events she often wears her hair pulled up in a bun, twist, chignon or ponytail.

Fringe: Sandra rarely wears a fringe which may be due to the fact her hair is naturally curly. Lately the star has been seen with her dark chocolate brown tresses cascading from a side part directing the front section of hair near the hairline over to the opposite side of her face.

Sometimes Sandra's hair is brushed off her hairline in such a style that no obvious part is visible.

Face Shape: Sandra's face shape is square. She has beautifully chiseled cheekbones which slope into a slightly square chin.

Hairstyle Works Best: Sandra's hairstyle works best for hair which is shoulder length or longer which is all one length or with very subtle layers.

The best texture for recreating this hairstyle is hair with some bend, natural waves or light curls which can be temporarily straightened. It can be copied with or without a fringe.

Hair Tools Required: Large barrel curling iron or hot rollers, 100% boar bristle round brush, long tail comb, bobby pins, flat iron, curling iron, styling spray and/or cream, sculpting hairspray, shine spray and/or serum drops.

To add strategically placed volume, fullness and length you may wish to play with clip-in hair extensions.

Steal Sandra's HairStyle

Sandra's hairstyle can be customized to work with just about any face shape, hair type or texture. For naturally curly or wavy hair the strands must be either pre-straightened or blow dried straight.

This style is idea for hair that is medium in thickness.

Follow the steps below to re-create Sandra's style:

Start with a precision hair cut which is all one length or with very slight layers throughout.

1. Start by washing your hair in lukewarm water with a product designed to add back moisture and to treat colored or highlighted hair with tender loving care.

2. Rinse hair well and then apply a moisturizing rinse-out conditioner focusing the products on the areas of the hair that are most dry or damaged. If your hair is fine or thin you may wish to skip this option.

3. For extra conditioning substitute the rinse-out conditioner with a deep conditioner that is allowed to soak down into the hair's shaft.

4. Finish with a cool/cold rinse to lock in moisture and add additional shine.

5. Towel blot to remove excess moisture. Apply a conditioning detangling spray or leave-in conditioner and detangle strands with a wide tooth comb working from the ends to the roots. Create either a center or side part, depending on how you wish to style your hair.

Note: If your hair is prone to frizzing apply a defrisant product or mix with your other styling products. It has been reported in the past that Sandra Bullock was a big fan of Phytodefrisant for her naturally curly hair that tended to frizz.

6. For fullness, lift and volume throughout the crown, apply a volume enhancing product to the roots. Distribute a straightening balm to the rest of the strands distributing from below the roots to the ends.

7. Use a long tail comb to create desired part. Separate strands into 1" to 2 1/2" sections and blow dry with a boar's bristle round brush. Blow dry the top sections of hair using fingers to lift individual top strands and direct the air flow from ends to roots.

Use the brush to turn the ends under around the edges and slightly in towards the neck as you dry..

Note: If hair is naturally curly, do not use fingers to blow dry since this can add to frizz. Use a boar's bristle brush instead.

8. When hair is completely dry you may opt to touch up the strands with a straightening iron to achieve sleeker panels of hair.

You may prefer to use a curling iron (or hot rollers) to turn under the ends or add more volume and lift to the crown area.

9. Apply a shine serum, shine spray or hair cream to seal in moisture and add that shimmering shine similar to Sandra's. Hairspray is optional.

Although it is not obvious, a few bobby pins or small combs in the same color as Sandra's hair may have been discreetly placed at the nape of the neck to direct the hair over the shoulder.

Summary

Sandra Bullock's career is sizzling hot. Not only did she appear in three films in 2009, The Blind Side, The Proposal and What About Steve, it was recently announced she was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress in both The Blind Side and The Proposal

Even more impressive, The Blind Side has raked in more than $200 million to date which breaks all records for a single female lead.

As a huge long term fan of Sandra's I believe it couldn't happen to a better person.
