John Paul Mitchell Systems Presents A Signature Gathering 2002: Celebrating the Hairdresser

Introduction

Beverly Hills, Calif. - August 15, 2002 - This past July 21-24th at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada, John Paul Mitchell Systems - the company founded by hairdressers for hairdressers - held its annual education symposium, A Signature Gathering 2002.

The American, privately - held, hair care company demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the professional beauty industry with three full days of educational presentations and interactive workshops, attended by over 2,500 salon consultants, distributors, and hairdressers.

John Paul Mitchell Systems Artists and educators designed this groundbreaking program to present hairdressers with the latest cutting, coloring, and business techniques - giving them the tools they need for creative fulfillment and financial success.

"People often ask me when I will "sell out,'" stated Founder and CEO of John Paul Mitchell Systems, John Paul DeJoria. "The answer is - never. John Paul Mitchell Systems will forever be a salon-only brand, catering to the needs of the salon professional. Hairdressers made John Paul Mitchell Systems what it is today, and John Paul Mitchell Systems will continue to faithfully service their needs."

It's Showtime

John Paul Mitchell Systems Educators pumped up the energy with dazzling shows to inform and inspire. Master Associates Jimy Angel and Melissa Jaqua together with national Educator Angus Mitchell rolled out the modern edge of Modern Elixirs with three hot new cuts and a cool new attitude. They explained how Modern Elixirs high performance, natural hair care - including the new Illuminating Shine Spray - helps hairdressers evolve with their clientele, providing an upscale alternative that takes both service and retail to the next level.

Artistic Directors for the color Scott Cole and Linda Yodice demonstrated how award-winning Block Color techniques (voted 'Best Technique by a Manufacturer' at 2002 Haircolor USA) and the power of Paul Mitchell the color - with the latest products such as the Blonding System, Male Service, and the new True Red Series - create head-turning, 'better-than-natural' looks that please clients and keep professional color services in the salon.

Global Ambassador Floyd Kenyatta and Master Associate Carol Morrow shook it up with a show as eclectic as the multi-ethnic looks they create - emphasizing the importance of educating all hairdressers in all hair types, and using the versatility of Paul Mitchell products to cross color lines.

A Robert Cromeans Salon Team gave attendees The Experience with the latest in men's grooming and Tea Tree; took them on the fast track to fantastic style with a Betty-Boop presentation of Paul Mitchell Artistic Director Robert Cromeans' latest collection - Short Cuts; and motivated with great business tips for financial success.

Tomorrow's Paul Mitchell Hairdressers from Paul Mitchell - The School showed an inspiring glimpse into the future. And John Paul DeJoria gave attendees words of encouragement to navigate through this difficult time in our country's history, and brought hope to all with his undying commitment to giving back.

New Products Take the Stage

Vice President of Marketing Nina Kovner presented John Paul Mitchell Systems' latest product innovations, and Artists used them in their classes.

The newest and coolest for Autumn 2002 includes new Re-Works versatile styling cream - delivering multiple styles, easy restyling, and clean texture; Modern Elixirs Illuminating Shine Spray - providing high shine and enhancing natural texture; and Extra-Body Daily Boost - creating maximum volume and fullness with unique styling ingredients and a breakthrough Precision Sprayer that deliver the right amount of the product right where you need it - at the roots.

Sales Camp

On Sunday July 21, prior to A Signature Gathering, John Paul Mitchell Systems Salon Consultants and Distributors experienced Sales Camp - a day long program designed to immerse salespeople in each brand so that they could better understand features and benefits as well as the needs of the hairdresser in order to better serve their customers. The experience featured a presentation by Robert Cromeans as well as break-out rooms with workshop settings to explore each brand, including Paul Mitchell the color; Tea Tree; Paul Mitchell; and Modern Elixirs. All Sales Camp attendees were invited to stay for A Signature Gathering.

Paul Mitchell Education: The Experience

These included the most up-to-date breakthroughs in Men's Grooming and Massage with Tea Tree and the A.R.C.S. team (Master Associates Takashi Kitamura, Kelly Cardenas and Marcus Hanish); Block Color techniques with Paul Mitchell the color and Scott Cole and Linda Yodice (including the new 'Straps' technique with the True Red Series, the new 'Straps' technique with 'Juxt' - the latest color cut from Scott Cole, Weave Alternative with Male service, Picasso with the Blonding System, and Braids with Gray Undercover); Robert Cromeans' ShortCuts Collection - the quicker, easier pathway to modern, trendsetting style - with Robert Cromeans, Stephanie Kocielski and A Robert Cromeans Salon Team; and methods and strategies for creating your own award-winning salon team with John Paul Mitchell Systems Motivational Expert Winn Claybaugh together with Master Associate Giulio Veglio.

John Paul Mitchell Systems education is an interactive experience. All classes give artists a chance to truly live the education. John Paul Mitchell Systems Educational experts designed Signature Gathering workshop 'rotations' to appeal to all types of learners, and participants learned from many directions simultaneously.

Intimate Third Day 'Advanced Workshops' - including Hands-on Cutting with Robert Cromeans; Hands-on cut, color, and Coif with Stephanie Kocielski; Hands-on Colorcutting with Scott Cole and Linda Yodice; Hands-on Men's Grooming with Takashi Kitamura, Kelly Cardenas and Marcus Hanish; and 'Shot-in-the-Arm' with Winn Claybaugh and Giulio Veglio - followed this philosophy as well.

"Our education is the difference between looking at a car you are thinking of buying, and taking that car for a test drive," explained Vice President of Education Tommy Callahan. "Those who take a car for a test drive usually buy the car; those who take John Paul Mitchell Systems classes start immediately practicing what they have learned and reaping the benefits of those classes in their salon environment". Hairdressers who attended A Signature Gathering 2002, said "it was the most fabulous education experience they have ever had."
