Dr. Aaron Tabor: Doctor Of Soy

Introduction

There’s a well-known Chinese proverb that says “give a person a fish and you feed them for a day. Teach a person to fish and you feed them for a lifetime”.

(Image of Dr. Aaron Tabor - CEO & Founder of Revival Soy - all rights reserved - Revival Soy - 2006).

After recently chatting with Dr. Aaron Tabor cell-to-cell for close to an hour, I realized that the proverb could be utilized as an appropriate description for his inspirational life’s work with Revival Soy. Originally planning a career in cranio-facial plastic surgery and research, Dr. Tabor, earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Wake Forest University in 1993 upon which he then entered the prestigious Johns Hopkins Medial School.

Along his initial path towards helping people recover from devastating facial deformities Dr. Tabor answered the call of his beloved mother, Suzanne, who was suffering intensely from crippling menopausal issues including life altering hot flashes and hormonal mood swings.

Although she tired the traditional standard hormone treatments, she found them worse than menopause itself.

Note: To read more about Suzanne's struggles with click here.

Traditional Hormone Dangers

It is not surprising to hear that Suzanne Tabor did not respond well to traditional estrogen-progestin supplements. Although a large number of doctors say short-term hormonal use may be warranted for certain women, many hormonal supplement users struggle with finding a workable relief to menopausal symptoms.

(Image of Vanilla Pleasure™ Shake from Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

Besides the troubling physical side effects, there is an increased worry about long term health risks.

Two major medical journals published studies in 2003 citing the health risks for women taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The August 8, 2003 edition of The Lancet published a study that found women taking the HRT hormones estrogen and progestin increased their risk of developing breast cancer by almost 50%.

The New England Journal of Medicine published a study that found women taking HRT containing estrogen and progestin had an increased risk of developing heart disease, especially during the first year of initial use.

(Image of Low-Carb Autumn Apple Frost Bar from Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

The study participants in their first year on hormones had their heart attack risk increase 81%. Because of last year’s initial study results that showed women who use HRT for an extended period of time had an increased risk of heart disease, many doctors have recommended that women use HRT for 2 years only to help alleviate menopausal symptoms. This new study is alarming because it shows that HRT can be harmful for even a short period of time.

These are the most recent studies that confirm the risk for woman taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Because of these new-found risks, many women are choosing to discontinue using HRT. When women stop taking HRT, their menopausal symptoms return. These symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, insomnia and vaginal dryness.

With so many women refusing to take HRT, yet suffering from menopausal symptoms, many are seeking alternative therapies. One of the most popular choices is soy. Note: To read about the dangers of HRT click here.

Soy To The Rescue

Frustrated with the turn her life was taking while dealing with menopause, Suzanne Tabor implored her son to help her find a better way to get relief. Dr. Tabor listened to his mom’s urgent pleas and began aggressively utilizing his medical training and related resources to extensively search for a more natural solution to help her.

(Image of The Chocolate Daydream Shake from Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

On his relentless quest to discover relief options for his mother’s hormonal challenges, he investigated numerous medical studies which indicated significantly lower rates of menopause discomfort among Asian women when compared to women in the US. Why? Asians consume up to six servings or soy foods a day, while the typical go-go American diet contains almost no soy protein or soy nutrients.

Upon discovering the potential menopausal relieving benefits of soy, Mom Tabor immediately began consuming various forms of soy products. Unfortunately, the outcome of her new soy habit was disappointing. Not only did she have a hard time consuming enough soy products every day to make a difference, she found the chalky taste unpleasant.

Following the “necessity is the mother of invention school” Dr. Tabor and his mom decided to head for the kitchen to create a better-tasting soy supplement with a natural soy nutrient called “isoflavones”.

Combining his medical expertise with his mom’s discriminating taste buds, the duo invested two years into developing and perfecting the first Revival Soy product dubbed The Chocolate Daydream Shake™.

(Image of The Chocolate Daydream Shake from Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

Within days of indulging in her daily delicious soymilk based drinks, Suzanne started feeling better. In just four weeks of daily consumption of Revival Soy she had more energy and her menopausal symptoms nearly vanished.

The Chocolate Daydream shake is delightfully rich with a mildly sweet cocoa flavor that combines the essential nutrition of soy with a velvety smooth shake.

This sinfully delicious shake includes the required 20 grams of soy protein, 160 milligrams of soy isolflavones (which act as antioxidants) and 500 milligrams of calcium to satisfy minimal daily needs. It is certified genetically-pure soy (non-GMS) and has certified isoflavone levels. Even better, it helps to ease the most relentless of chocolate cravings which can be triggered by hormonal imbalances.

Birth Of Physicians Laboratories

Thrilled with their new delicious-but-good-for-you soy product discovery, the mom and son team shared the yummy chocolate drink formula with friends and family. Good news travels fast and in short order the Tabor phone started ringing off the hook.

(Image of Low-Carb Chocolate Raspberry Zing Bar from Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

Many women, like Suzanne, who were suffering intolerable menopausal challenges were determined to get their hands on this fantastic chocolate treat that was proven to help ease hormonal related health problems.

Dr. Tabor explained that his dad Byran, “who previously had a very successful and busy painting contractor firm, jumped in to help deal with the overwhelming onslaught of phone calls and answer questions”. In short order dad Tabor left the world of painting behind and committed himself, along with the rest of the Tabor family (including older brother Byron & younger brother Nathan), to spreading the soy benefit message to the rest of the world from the company’s headquarters.

During his final year of medical school at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Tabor founded Physicians Laboratories out of a personal concern to help other people discover the many benefits of soy products.

The mission of the growing and evolving Revival product line was ultimately defined as the goal to help others live a life that they love with a good nutrition, education and medical research.

(Image of Revival Shakes from Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

Revival Soy has been shipping since 1998 with nearly 1,500,000 orders shipped to over 300,000 customers. The original Chocolate Daydream shake was eventually joined by eight additional patented natural (6x) concentrated shakes. The flavors added to the Revival shake family were as luscious as the original Chocolate Daydream and includes Vanilla Pleasure, Strawberry Smile, Cappuccino Comfort, Just Peachy, Banana Blessings, Strawberry Banana Bliss, Blueberry Blush and plain (organic) Soy.

For new customers that can’t initially make up their minds (can you blame them) which of the divine drink flavors to try, a Variety Shake Mix package is available.

For more info on the Chocolate Daydream & shakes go to: http://www.revivalsoy.com/products/shakes/var-shake.html?pid=hb1.

The shakes (each contains 20 grams soy protein & 160 milligrams of soy isoflavones) have also evolved to offer three different sweetener options: smart-carb fructose, smart-carb/low-carb Spenda and smart-carb/low-carb unsweetened.

(Image of Blueberry Blush Shake from Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

All of the shakes were carefully developed and taste tested. Dr. Tabor confided that is mom “is very picky about what she will eat and is adamant that no Revival products are ever released that do not meet her very strict taste tests”.

Such an amazing story. What started as a single product developed “for his mom” has become a $20+ million soy protein nutraceutical and medical food company that is currently located in a 56,000 square foot facility in beautiful Kernersville, North Carolina in the heart of the Triad near Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point.

A Passion For Helping People

I asked Dr. Tabor why he was originally attracted to the craniofacial field of plastic surgery. He told me “the results that the skilled surgeons achieved for people suffering from a variety of congenital disorders is nothing short of miraculous”.

(Image of Apple Cinnamon Celebration™ Bar from Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

He noted that “Operation Smile, which provides volunteer craniofacial surgery for those in need around the world, has achieved a lot of International recognition for not only their work, but for the specialty”.

Dr. Tabor’s passion for helping people, even before he was drafted onto the Revival path, was clearly transmitted when he discussed the fact that “during his time in medical school at” he had the opportunity “to scrub in with the renowned Dr. Benjamin Carson, famous for his work as a skilled pediatric neurosurgeon and as the long time Co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Craniofacial Center”

Based on his original passion and drive to be a reconstructive plastic surgeon, I questioned if it was hard for Dr. Tabor to walk away from that exciting career path. He laughed and said “his career worked out the way it was meant to be.”

He confided that his mom “initially worried that she had inadvertently diverted him from his original surgical goals” and thrust him into the world of soy, which has since become his all consuming passion and full time career.

(Image of Just Peachy Shake from Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

But subscribing to the philosophy that “everything happens for a reason”, Dr. Tabor believes he is “helping to change many millions of lives for the better with his ongoing research and Revival Soy product development”. He told me he has “convinced his mom that her menopausal crisis which triggered his initial career detour is a very good thing”. After all, he pointed out, as a surgeon, he would “only have been able to help a relatively small number of people over the span of his career, rather than vast numbers that have already experienced health benefits from Revival Soy over the past seven years”.

Teaching Consumers The Lifelong Benefits Of Soy

Ahhh, which brings us full circle to the Chinese proverb about teaching people to fish. Dr. Tabor was not content with just creating a soy based product line that consumers could purchase.

(Image of Strawberry Smile Shake from Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

He was determined to teach people how to utilize the Revival products nutritional tools to permanently change their lives for the better. By aggressively overseeing research studies that involve random double-blinded placebo-controlled Revival Soy use at hospitals nationwide, he set about achieving his consumer educational goals to share with the world.

With the results of those scientific studies in hand he focused on “educating consumers about the tremendous benefits of Revival Soy”. It is his sincere belief that “all patients have the right to learn about nutritional management therapies from their physician or other health care providers” and not the local health food store clerk.

I personally found his philosophy refreshing and comforting. It is one thing for a company to promise great results from using their products. But it is another to really know without a doubt that the promises will come true.

What makes Revival Soy stand out is the fact that Dr. Tabor puts his money where his mouth is. He pays for scientific studies run by doctors in hospitals because he only wants to offer products to the world that have been proven effective.

It’s so nice to meet a CEO like Dr. Tabor who truly cares about the health and welfare of his customers as well as consumers everywhere.

Benefits Of Soy

The combination of increasing fears about long term hormonal use with the inability to get adequate relief many women have been turning to natural solutions over the past few years.

In a 2002 article by the Associate Press, it was reported that “a review of 29 studies on alternative remedies in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that only the herb black cohosh and soy appear to have some benefits”. And, a recent study on Revival documented its ability to lower symptoms of menopause.

What Exactly Is Soy Protein?

Protein, which is necessary for all humans to sustain life, is made from building blocks that are known as “amino acids”. The amino acids are linked together to form a chain. Of the 20 unique amino acids that are found in the human body, nine are essential to sustaining human life.

(Image of Cappuccio Comfort Shake from Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

Soy protein, derived from soybeans, is the only plant protein that is “complete” because it contains all 9 essential amino acids that are the perfect balance for human needs.

Note: To read more on the basics of soy click on: http://www.revivalsoy.com/home/soybasics.html?pid=hb1

Soy is a great substitute for any meats that are high in saturated fats and cholesterol. It is interesting to note that the soybean is the only vegetable that has more proteins than carbohydrates.

Soybeans are rich in many naturally-occurring phytonutirents which include isoflavones (pronounced “i-so-flay-vones”) and saponis. In combination with soy protein, these phytonutirents are thought to play a critical role in the health benefits of consuming soy on a continual basis.

Isoflavones can be found in varying amounts in legumes, such as chick peas and lentil, but soybeans contain the highest natural concentration of isoflavones. Soy contains three types of isoflavones: Daidzein, Genistein and Glycitein. Each is found in different amounts in the soybean and each has different properties.

No Miracle Pills – A Lifestyle Change

While soy can offer great health benefits in a number of areas to many people, Dr. Tabor pointed out that there is no “miracle” pill aspect with incorporating the use of the Revival Soy options into a daily diet.

(Image of Chocolate Temptation Bar from Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

He stressed that “it is a lifestyle change and long term commitment”. However, he noted that when people are willing to work on their various health issues by integrating the daily consumption of Revival Soy into their diet they may find experience many, if not all, of the following health benefits:

  • Improved Hair, Skin & Nail Health

  • Weight loss

  • Energy

  • Relief of Hormonal Issues (Menopause, PMS, Menstrual Health)

  • Colon & Digestive Tract Health

  • Diabetic Health

  • Breast & Endometrial Health Support

  • Prostate Health Support

  • Bone Health Support

  • Kidney Health

Note: For more information on the health benefits check out: http://www.revivalsoy.com/whysoy/index.html?pid=hb1 Daily use of Revival Soy may also improve memory, and improve antioxidant status (important for neutralizing harmful free radicals in every human tissue). And per the FDA, soy can also help reduce risk of heart disease and can lower cholesterol.

Dr. Tabor does point out that the results one person experiences “may or may not be identical to another”. However, the overwhelming numbers of people that utilize Revival Soy “achieve exceptional results in a wide range of health and lifestyle conditions. Thousands of customers have written us with remarkable stories”.

Ongoing Research In Soy Benefits

Revival Soy, is committed to the ongoing improvement of human life through good nutrition and the medically researched health benefits of soy. Honoring this commitment Physicians Laboratories is constantly conducting ongoing medical research in the areas of soy benefits. The results gained from the continual studies have lead to a global Revival patent (even in China!), and a taste of widely preferred over mainstream soy food products.

Collectively, these breakthroughs have made Revival Soy the most recommended brand of soy protein supplements among physicians nationwide.

The Man Behind The Vision

So who is this amazing man behind the spectacular success of Revival Soy? Dr. Aaron Tabor is a highly acclaimed physician, the brilliant CEO of an impressively successful business, a visionary in the field of medical research, an entrepreneur’s entrepreneur and a loving, devoted son.

(Image of Peanut Butter Pal Bar from Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

As I did my usual behind the scenes research on Dr. Tabor before our phone interview, I was honestly suspicious. Could this man be authentic?

Indeed, he is not only the real deal, he is charmingly witty, soft spoken and completely unaffected by his mind blowing string of serial successes. Never mind that besides the CEO hat he wears at Physicians Labs, he carries the joint title of Medical Research Director which means that he oversees a group of mainstream doctors trained at top institutes like John Hopkins and Memorial Sloan-Kettering.

Dr. Tabor’s enthusiasm and excitement about his work and the Revival product line is infectious. It’s obvious that he loves what he does and his hundreds of thousands of customers love him.

Honesty Is The Best Policy

Dr. Tabor holds the position of Nutraceutical Editor for Clinical Researcher, a Remedica medical journal focusing on excellence in clinical trials. He also supports various medical associations, including North American Menopause Society, American Medical Association, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, American Dietetic Association, and Men Against Breast Cancer.

Even though Dr. Tabor is a medical doctor by training, he is very quick to point out that the people at Revival do not give medical advice which encouraging everyone to consult their physicians. They provide nutritional information regarding Revival products and related information currently available in the public domain for the beneficial uses of soy. Revival is a dietary supplement, and thus doesn’t claim to treat, prevent or cure diseases. Dr. Tabor feels that nutrition should be part of everyone’s overall health plan.

Not Sold In Grocery Or Local Health Food Stores

While there is no doubt that opening up mass market distribution channels of this fantastic product line would unleash major international sales of Revival products, Dr. Tabor and the rest of the Tabor family are more concerned with the needs of their customers.

(Image of Revival Baked Pasta Soy Chips - courtesy Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006)

When I asked why Revival products are not sold in the local health or grocery stores Dr. Tabor explained that he wants to ensure that his customers receive the highest standard of freshness and price value, that can only be guaranteed when the products is shipped directly from Physicians Laboratories.

He noted that products sold through other distribution channels may not be able to offer the same freshness or price values. It is no surprise that the Tabor family feels this way. Afterall, this company truly cares about their customer’s long-term health and welfare.

Dr. Tabor pointed out that as the voice of Physicians Laboratories he values the one-to-one relationship that the company has with their customers and the thousands of physicians that recommend the product to their patients. As a result, he wants to make sure that he honors those relationships.

Practicing What He Preaches

Lately his thriving business has required him to travel extensively. When I asked Dr. Tabor if all he did was work, he laughed and replied that “I strive for balance in my life where I integrate work and play by working hard at both activities.

(Image of Revival Soy Nuts - courtesy of Revival Soy - all rights reserved - 2006).

His passion, besides helping people improve their health, and potentially extend their life spans, is a challenging scuba dive or an intense workout with jet skis in a body of water somewhere. A self proclaimed “movie buff”, he makes sure to take CEO work breaks by indulging in his love of “watching a good flick”. As a physician he practices what he preaches about combining physical exercise with good nutrition and finds hiking in the beautiful terrain in his home state very therapeutic.

And yes, he loves to “hang out with his mom”. He told me that one of the perks of having his mom as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for his company is that “I get to see her and work with her almost every day, which is a special blessing”. They also continue to “whip up new recipes” with the various Revival products for the monthly newsletter and to experiment with new product formulations.

Great Hair, Skin & Nails

When I was first studying the Revival Soy story I noticed that Suzanne and Dr. Tabor both had fabulous manes. And if you know me, you know that I am always focusing a lot of my attention on the hair aspect to any health, beauty or related story.

(Image of Revival Soy Marshmallow Krunch Bar - all rights reserved - Revival Soy).

During our phone chat I complimented him on Suzanne’s full lush mane of shiny slate gray hair and asked if he felt the Revival Soy products had helped. “Yes, absolutely.” He explained that Suzanne not only noticed a change in her hair after she started taking Revival Soy, but she also experienced positive changes with her skin and nails. In fact, he said that Suzanne claims that Revival Soy has given her the “best hair, skin and nails of her life”.

Protein Is Important

Since hair is protein, a diet that is too low in protein may cause some thinning in hair or retardation in the growth cycle. The converse is true, if you eat a protein-rich diet it will often result in improved hair growth.

Other good food sources for protein include fish, eggs, beans and yogurt. Soy protein has also been found to be helpful in stimulating hair growth. One study of the results of Revival on the hair found that it not only strengthened the hair but caused it to grow.

Not Your Typical Supermarket Soy!

Thousands of doctors have recommended Revival Soy and it is the #1 Doctor-recommended protein supplement. There are currently 30 clinical trials related to Revival Soy that are either just starting or underway.

Image of Revival Penne Pasta - all rights reserved - Revival Soy).

Revival is certainly not your typical supermarket soy. The reason? Revival is very different because just one bar or shake contains the amount of isoflavones found in six cups of typical soy milk (due to Dr. Tabor’s patented natural concentration process). When you compare the equal isoflavone amounts between Revival and soy milk you will find that Revival is a much better value but contains less fat that traditional soy milk.

Note: To read a comparison of Revival Soy versus traditional soy milk check out: http://www.revivalsoy.com/whyrevival?pid=hb1

Physicians Laboratories patented a way to use more of the heart of the soybean. This manufacturing process allows a single small serving of Revival to naturally contain the same amount of isoflavones (natural antioxidants) found in a whole pound of tofu. And the Revival flavor technology eliminates any unpleasant soy taste. Revival delivers the benefits of soy without the usual bulk or bad taste.

Even better, Revival doesn’t taste like soy. Which is why Suzanne Tabor was able to easily incorporate the original Revival Soy shake into her daily food plan and actually enjoy the flavor.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Paradise

When I asked Dr. Tabor what his favorite Revival product was he didn’t hesitate for a second. He told me that their new Chocolate Peanut Butter Paradise (shown to the side) low-carb/smart-carb bar was what he enjoyed most, but all 8 Revival bar flavors had “diehard fans”. And yes, he indulges in all of the products that they sell. As does the entire Tabor family.

Eating anything that has the name Chocolate Peanut Butter Paradise sounds easy to a chocoholic like me. But there is nothing worse than getting your mouth all set for a creamy chocolate peanut butter taste and discovered that there is a bitter or funny aftertaste. Not to worry. Dr. Tabor pointed out that the Revival Chocolate Peanut Butter Paradise bar comes with a 100% Great Taste Guarantee™. Translated that means that if you don’t agree that the Revival products taste great, just send them back for a refund, less than shipping and handling, which is only fair.

How can Revival promise that their products taste great or your money back? Dr. Tabor laughed and said “my mom is a wonderful cook and a very picky eater”. As a result he chuckled that “she won’t let me market anything unless it great”. Even though the best selling bar is packed with protein and isoflavones, Revival customers are crazy for it.

For more info go to: http://www.revivalsoy.com/products/bars?pid=hb1

Guilt Free Coffee

Revival has continuously pushed their Great Taste Guarantee policy by inventing incredible products that range from the fabulous shakes and bars to soy pasta, chips, nuts and soy coffee. My ears perked up at the mention of Revival Soy “Coffee” which provides the health benefits of soy isoflavones in the same alluring flavor and richness of conventional coffees.

(Image of Soy Nog - all rights reserved - Revival Soy).

I confessed to Dr. Tabor that I had given up my legendary daily Starbucks coffee habit several months ago due to concerns about being over caffeinated. Old habits die hard and I admitted that I still craved a steaming cup of dark roasted java on a regular basis. Imagine my joy when Dr. Tabor explained that the Revival coffee products , which are noted for their smooth, sophisticated flavors, come in de-caffeinated versions. Each cup of coffee contains 10-15 milligrams of soy isolfavones with no caffeine (soy-only versions) or half-caffeine (Breakfast in Bed Blend).

The beans are organically grown and can be brewed just like regular coffee. Yes, I have brand new plans for my exiled French press and drip coffee maker.

(Image of Revival Coffee - all rights reserved - 2006).

The coffees, like all the other Revival Soy products come with that 100% Great Taste Guaranteed. For more info on the Revival Coffee products go to: http://www.revivalsoy.com/products/coffee/index.html?pid=hb1

Summary

It has been recorded in history that soy was first utilized as a food during China’s Chou Dynasty (1134-246 BC) when the Chinese people discovered a way to ferment soy beans to make foods like tempeh, tamari and natto. Since that ancient time, soy has been discovered to contain many health related benefits.

Dr. Tabor, his mother Suzanne and the good people at Physician’s Laboratories are committed to “getting the good news out about soy to help many women live healthier, happier lives!”
