Purses & Bags: The 411
Karen Marie Shelton
Date: 7/14/2004

Introduction

A great bag or purse can tie an entire outfit together.  A messy or a bag that is worse for wear, can detract from even the most carefully put together fashions.

The good news about bags and purses is that they come in every imaginable size, shape, color and style.  The bad news is that there may be too many purchases to choose from and the result can be confusion about what bag works for with event or outfit.

If you are a fan of MTV's Newylweds you know that Jessica Simpson took her Louis Vuitton bag on a camping trip.  On Sex And The City an entire episode featured a power struggle between Samantha and Lucy Liu over a Birkin bag.

If you are not well schooled in the ways of being a great bag lady, the best place to start is learning about the various bag shapes and types.  Once you get a handle on the various types, you can focus on your own personal bag carrying needs.

Types of Purses

Some people own just a few good purses that they use for various events.  Others, own an entire collection of purses.

Listed below are some of the most basic purse types:

Amici Accessories - Black Brianna - Rouged Satin ClutchClutch - This is a very basic style of purse that is usually designed to be a rectangular shape.  Some people refer to these types of purses as envelope purses.  (Shown above - Amici - Black Brianna - Rouged Satin Clutch)

Clutches may or may not come with a wrist strap or convertible handle. While many people prefer the clutch with some form or wrist handle, it is definitely a matter or personal preference.

Hobo - Many hobo bag fans like the elongated shape and style of this purse named after the bags that railroad hobos used to carry.

Hippie & Fringe - The Hippie
