Altering your tresses for a new look and feel doesn't always mean taking drastic steps.

Sometimes small changes like adding bangs or moving a part can make a big difference.  Hair color changes can also instantly change a style, even if it means adding subtle highlights or lowlights.

Although some people believe that when they go for a makeover they should change everything about their hair, many people just want to freshen up their existing look for a more flattering style.

Before

Model Lisa (to the side and below) wanted a change but she wanted to be more subtle and enhance her existing style, which she liked and was basically working for her.

When she visited the fabulous Gerard Bollei Salon at 115 East 57th Street location in New York City.  (212-759-7985 or 1-800-BOLLEI2) she went for the fool-proof low key makeover.

Bollei's very talented stylist  Hoi Fung studied Lisa's current milk chocolate brunette locks and decided that they worked just fine with her current skin and eye tones.

Hoi decided to focus Lisa's change through her hairstyle, letting the Bollei make-up artists balance and enhance Lisa's overall skin and eye tones with a lighter and fresher palette of colors.

Hoi shaped Lisa's hair by removing a small amount from the overall length.  Then Hoi carefully layered Lisa's hair angling it on both sides of the face to frame and sculpt.

Lisa has an oval face shape with a slightly pronounced chin.  To achieve a softer oval and a less prominent chin, Hoi graduated layers on either side of Lisa's face from the chin to the shoulders.  He added a little lift around the crown and used products to add shine for a rocker chic look.

Blow-dry with a round brush for a little lift.

After Hair Makeover Styling Tips

The end result?  A sassy, shoulder skimming layered shaggy style that provided fabulous, face framing, inwardly flicked ends, that nestle between Lisa's chin and shoulders.

The gorgeous updated style has added volume and lift around the crown while utilizing high gloss shine products for a rocker chic glow. When coupled with great new makeup colors, the style instantly transformed Lisa's facial appearance with minimal or traumatic hairstyle changes.

Styling

Phyto - Phytodefrisant Baum 3.3 ozThe key to re-creating this style at home is to use a good post-shampoo defrisant product like Phytodefrisant to control fizzy waves and/or curls and maintain the sultry sleekness.

Blow-dry the style with a flat or paddle style brush to get sleek straight trands and then use a round brush for gentle root lift and light flicks on the ends. Add a bit of mousse to help with volume creation.

Apply a tiny bit of styling cream or gel to the bangs and then finger pick to give them that sexy, just tousled style.

Finishing Touches

Rene Furterer - Spray Gloss - 100ml/3.38 ozApply a tiny bit of styling cream or gel to the bangs and then finger pick to give them that sexy, just tousled style.

To add even more color depth opt for Ken Paves Healthy Hair Boost Up Color Drops in your favorite hue.  Or you may wish to use a color enhancing shampoo to pump up the color.

Add a dab of shine with Phyto's PhyoLisse, Rene Furterer's Spray Gloss or Ken Paves Healthy Hair Shine Serum.  Another option is Robert Hallowell's Love That Shine Drops and you will have a bright and shiny hairstyle.

More About Gerard Bollei Salon

In 1973, Gerard Bollei, stylist extraordinaire, and James Santa, master colorist, teamed up to introduce a new concept to the salon trade . . . a total service center which would not only cater to every beauty need imaginable, but also specialize in specialization.

The result was the Gerard Bollei Salon, the showcase of the famed Galleria Building on fashionable East 57th Street, and a model for others to emulate for its abundance of talent and its overall ambiance
