Los Angeles, CA -- As the newly
chosen female lead in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines,
Kristanna Loken needed the perfect hair color. And just like
Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-101 made finding the perfect sunglasses a
mission, Loken insisted on finding the perfect color.
That's why
she got the studio to hire her own colorist, David Horinek, who owns
David Dru salon in Beverly Hills, CA. Because he had already
corrected her color several times after it had been damaged on various
shoots, you can bet, "she'll be back."
To keep her icy blonde away from the forces or permanent darkness,
Loken, along with the film's other principals, including Claire Danes,
visited the salon every week.
"The shoot took six months,
but all of the action was supposed to take place in one day, so the
trick was to make the hair look exactly the same, beginning to
end," says Horinek.
With a mission to protect the
actresses' color integrity, Horinek chose Goldwell hair color, and
applied his highly perfected Baliage technique. Horinek says the
key to re-touching color every week is to avoid overlap that can
damage the hair.
For Loken's modish cyborg, he originally tried a weaving technique
but after consulting with the film's lead hairdresser, he found
Baliage worked better for creating a shiner-than-titanium, glacial
beige blonde. It was perfect for a fembot machine.

For Danes' character Kate Brewster, a veterinarian, as well as love
interest to reluctant savior of mankind John Connor, David used a
Baliage technique of three to four shades in Goldwell's RB series in
Topchic and Colorance to create a multidimensional red.
"Claire was a last minute cast, so they actually called me off
the gold course on a Saturday to change her from a bleachy-blonde to a
multidimensional red in time to begin shooting on Sunday," says
Horinek, a scratch golfer.
Other celebrities who have visited Horinek's salon include Wendy
Malik and Lorenzo Lamas;
Horinek also created Courtney Cox's
first haircut for her role in Friends. The key to working
with any client, he says, is "to develop the right process and
communicate clearly".
