Hair Extensions: America's Next Top Model
Karen Marie Shelton/Dedicated To FFOS
Date: 7/14/06

Introduction

Christopher Knight
& Adrienne Curry
ANTM's 1st Winner
Maxim Party

Hair extensions are a key element of the popular reality show - America's Next Top Model (ANTM).  This was evident from the very first show when the makeovers were performed on ten of the show's finalists.

The ultimate winner, Adrianne was provided with a "hair weave" and indeed it completely changed her look and confidence, so much so that she ultimately won the competition.  From America's Next Top Model the beautiful model went on to join another reality show where she met her new husband.

During that same makeover show Kesse received "Tyra Banks 1992" style extensions, Robin received brown hair extensions and Shannon was first bleached white blonde and then receive hair extensions.

For the second season of ANTM netted more hair extensions for Xiomara who received custom designed wavy extensions while Mercedes received wild extensions.  To date, all of the ANTM cycle makeovers have netted at least one model who received hair extensions.  In many of the cycles multiple contestants received them.

Celebrity hairdressers Ken Paves and Robert Hallowell have worked with more famous celebrities than I can list in just this article.  Ken is famous for his work with Jessica Simpson and Eva Longoria while Robert is famous for his hair designs for Geena Davis and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Both Ken and Robert have given me extensions quotes and information on the hair extension work that they do with their clients.  Even though more stars are willing to discuss their hair extensions, some are still very secretive about whether they are wearing 100% their own hair.

It doesn't really matter because the viewing public has become very astute at recognizing hair extensions.  Which is why it is so refreshing for the producers of America's Next Top Model shows to film the actual process of the model wannabes experiencing extensions.

A Photo Speaks 1,000 Words

Although America's Next Top Model doesn't film the entire sequence of hair extension application because it could take hours, the viewers are treated to before and after montages of the models that receive the weaves or extensions.  It is really true that a photo speaks 1,000 words and the changes are often shocking.  Usually in a very good way.

For America's Next Top Model only 100% human hair is utilized in luscious rich hues that are designed to blend well with the model's current or newly colored hues.

Life imitates reality because it is definitely true that models must constantly change their look and hairstyles to fit the fashions that they are required to model.  Hair extensions are a regular fact of life for a professional.

Speedy Transformation

Most hairdressers like Ken Paves, Robert Hallowell and the famous hairdressers like America's Next Top Model's Danilo custom design the hair extensions they use for every client to completely meet their current hair condition, color and texture as well as addressing any special care needs that they might have.

Summary

Hair extensions are a key "hair accessory" that have become a major mainstay for the competitive reality shows like America's Next Top Model and American Idol where image is everything.
