Paul Mitchell The Skin Academy: a New Home For Exceptional Esthetic Education
John Paul Mitchell Systems
Date: 8/15/2002

Introduction

(Beverly Hills, Calif. - August 15, 2002) - On July 17,2002 Paul Mitchell The Skin Academy officially celebrated the opening of its state-of-the art facility at Paul Mitchell The School in Costa Mesa, California. John Paul DeJoria, Winn Claybaugh and Steven Frost, Dean of The Skin Academy, as well as its instructors and many of its students were on hand for the open house. The glamorous evening included a tour of the inspiring learning environment as well as demonstrations of the latest in contemporary skin treatments.

John Paul Mitchell Systems believes in education as the key to passion. The launch of The Skin Academy at Paul Mitchell The School is in keeping with this philosophy.

"I want our schools to reinvent our industry's basic educational system, infusing it with a supportive and positive learning culture. The Skin Academy is a perfect example of that mission," stated Winn Claybaugh, Dean of Paul Mitchell The School. "We are thrilled to launch the careers of new salon and spa professionals by immersing them in success skills from their very first day."

John Paul DeJoria concurs saying, "We have started The Skin Academy at Paul Mitchell The School to further enhance the overall qualifications and abilities of the future full service salon professionals. But even more importantly, we see its integration within Paul Mitchell The School as leading to one-stop education for our industry."

The Academy actually moved into its current space and the end of February 2002, five months after its pilot class in a room at Paul Mitchell The School. The building includes a theory classroom and a practical clinic, designed to simulate the ultimate day spa. This allows students to perfect their skills in realistic professional surroundings. Instructors at The Academy have real world experience in skin care centers and spas and have completed extensive training at The International Dermal Institute.

The Skin Academy's classes are part of a total immersion curriculum, a 600-hour course developed in alliance with The International Dermal Institute, using its Dermalogica professional products. They include practical workshops in which students both give and receive treatments, offering them both the therapist's and client's point of view. The doors of The Skin Academy are also open to the public, giving students with more than 200 completed hours the opportunity to master real-world client therapy.

The Skin Academy is dedicated to the success of its graduates, encouraging professional networking, scheduling special events for its students, and assisting with career placement.
