Introduction

If you're a fan of ABC's Desperate Housewives you probably have your favorites in the neighborhood.

Regardless of which of the wives you love or identify with best, the media appears to believe that Teri Lynn Hatcher is the key breakout star of the hit TV drama.  The former cheerleader for the San Francisco 49ers, who is currently featured on the cover of May's InStyle Magazine, has been popping up on magazine covers everywhere.  And why not?  She's become America's latest sweetheart.

Move over Carrie Bradshaw, a brunette has inherited your throne.  Teri, who plays the flirty, somewhat klutzy and definitely addictive Susan, on ABC's Sunday night hit, has captured the adoration of her many fans. She has invested 100% of herself to the icon producing role, including appearing completely naked from the rear in one of the earliest episodes of the show.

Forty & Fabulous

Who can believe that the super sexy, luscious brunette is actually 40 years old? (Teri is a Sagittarius born 12-8-1964). Even more impossible to comprehend is the fact that Teri's number one concern off the set of the TV hit is her seven year old daughter Emerson.

Teri recently confessed on the Ellen Degeneres show that she gets up at the crack of dawn to take her beloved daughter to school.  She also proudly explained that mother and daughter are best friends and take little adventures together.

Who would have thought that the always gorgeous star, famous for her slinky curves, was so focused on her role as mom.

All American Sexpot

A native Californian, Teri is an all American girl who channels her  Susan character quite nicely.  If you think about it, they have a lot in common.  Teri, like Susan is very sexy but you can definitely see her as completely down-to-earth.

The media has reported that Teri tends to be low key and rather conservative.  During her Bazaar Magazine interview she definitely showed a more playful side, which she claimed in the article, was unusual.

Maybe Teri is perfect as Susan because she has worked hard at developing some fine acting chops over the years starting in 1985 as a singing Mermaid on The Love Boat series.

The fact of the matter is that Teri already had her pop culture icon status nailed before Housewives was even a twinkle in the eyes of the producers.  Teri, who held the distinction of being the woman whose curvaceous figure was most downloaded from the Net in the late 90s, became a pop icon during her years as the very popular Lois Lane on the Lois & Clark:  The New Adventures of Superman which was on the airwaves from 1993 until 1997.

Ironically, the Superman show tanked when Teri married the Man of Steel and became a pseudo housewife.

From Short & Curly To Long & Sleek

During her reign as the main squeeze to the man with the cape, Teri morphed through a range of hair styles from big and pouffy to very short and super curly. She was also the darling of the tabloids who obsessively reported everything from her weight to the latest color, length and texture of her tresses.

During the long history of TV's Seinfeld, Teri was immortalized not for her beautiful and lush strands but for her bosom in a special bit written by the now famous comedian, Larry David.

As her current popularity has skyrocketed along with the Housewives' ratings, Teri's red carpet appearances have also accelerated.  It is interesting to see how Teri's hairstyles have rapidly cycled from sleek and straight to fabulous curls and ringlets.

With her beautiful brown eyes, well defined eyebrows and oval/square shaped face, she looks wonderful in longer styles that are worn slightly off her face forming a beautiful dark frame.  After all, the ideal style complements the face shape along with playing up the natural texture, type and color.

US Magazine has reported that the man responsible for making Teri look so sizzling hot is Don Malot who doubles as her hair and makeup guru.

Laurent D & David Babaii - Celebrity Hairdresser

Teri also has been a long client of Laurent D who is one of Hollywood's most famous hairdressers and a personal friend of Teri and her family.

I have had the great priviledge of interviewing Laurent and he is one of my long time favorites.  Interviewing Laurent is a very special treat as I am sure having him coid you hair is.

Although Malot is her on-set mane man, her dark chestnut and chocolate tresses have also been tousled, blown dry and elegantly coiffed by some of the industry's hair majors.  Rumor has it that the sizzling star prefers to wear her hair sleek and straight.

For her February cover turn on Bazaar Magazine in a slinky no back ruby red gown, Teri was expertly coiffed by the famous hair magician, David Babaii.  The results were nothing short of magnificent.  Crafting a uber sexy windswept cascade of soft come-hither waves and curls that worked perfectly with her breathtaking gown, Babaii made Teri look even more spectacular, if that's even possible.

How To Steal Terri's Look

Like her famous natural bosoms, Teri was blessed with good hair. She has healthy strands that are naturally wavy and have a good bend but as a low key person, she often prefers to wear her hair straight with no major fuss.

Currently her hair cascades softly to her shoulders.  For some Red Carpet events, like all big stars, Teri has been known to get a little hair help from extensions.

To achieve her sleek and straight styles complete the following steps:

STEP 1

Teri's hair is very healthy and glossy.  Over the years she has stayed away form drastic color changes which has been beneficial to her tresses.  However, as a busy actress, she is required to do lots of hair changes for her Housewives role.  This means that she still has to pay attention to using gentle shampoo formulas to keep her hair soft, silky and full of body.

Select a super moisturizing shampoo formula like Phytojoba or one designed for your specific hair type, texture and current condition.

For ultra dry or super fragile strands, use the dry hair formulas and dilute the shampoo for extra gentleness.

STEP 2

Gently squeeze excess water out of the strands.  Apply your favorite leave-in conditioner with your fingers.  Match the conditioning product to your hair type, texture and condition.

Work the conditioner into the driest parts of your hair.  Leave on for up to five minutes.  Rinse well.  Finish with a cool to cold water rinse.

STEP 3

Towel blot your strands to remove excess drippage.  Apply your favorite detangling product or leave-in conditioning product based on your type, texture and current condition of your strands.

Keep in mind that if you have fine or thin strands, you will want to use a very light detangling spray. For medium to thicker strands, use a heavier conditioning product.

If you are prone to frizz, experiment with frizz fighting formulas like Phytodefrisant or John Frieda Frizz Ease that help provide a sleeker smoother finish.

STEP 4

If you want to go for Teri's sleek straight style, be sure to either apply a defrisant product like Phytodefrisant or a straightening balm like Robert Hallowell's Flat Factor.

Distribute a dime-sized dollop of the product of your choice into the palms of your hands and mix well.  Use your fingers to work the product completely through your tresses.

STEP 5

Separate your hair into 2" sections and blow dry with a large round brush, starting near the back of the head and working around to the front on either side.

Beginning at the back of your head, blow-dry hair in half-inch pieces using a large round brush. To create extra volume, hold brush in the hair near the scalp until the hair cools (about five seconds), then move the brush down and through to the ends of the hair.

STEP 6

To create a super straight finish, use a hot flat iron to touch up any sections that require a smoother texture.

STEP 7

If desired, spray lightly with the hairspray of your choice.

STEP 8

Finish with a shine serum or spray.  Apply to the palms of your hands and lightly brush across the surface of your hair.

Optional Looks

If you prefer to go with Teri's lush full curls, follow all of the steps above until Step 5.  Skip the hot flat iron and substitute either hot rollers or a medium barrel curling iron.

Working from side to side, separate strands into 2 inch sections and set with either a medium sized hot roller or a medium barrel curling iron.

When curls are completely cool, spray well with your favorite hairspray and then use your fingers to gently separate and tousle the curls.  Finish with a light application of your favorite shine product.

Summary

Don't feel bad that Teri that she works so hard on Housewives.  She was quoted in the January 25, 2005 issue of Star magazine when talking about her role as Susan as saying: "It's not a bad job, I must admit. We spent one whole morning kissing."

Teri definitely sizzles as the domestic goddess of the year.  But don't hate her because she's so beautiful. Teri was quoted in Bazaar as saying "I wasn't cute in high school".    According to the luscious lady "I was geeky with no curves".  One thing is for sure, as her reign on Desperate Housewives continues expect to see this beauty to soar to all new heights of popularity.
