Introduction
In my ongoing quest for hair-to-there I've been willing to try just
about anything when it comes to my tresses. I've been recording my hair growing journey for years and save all the
results of my explorations into the hair universe.
Approximately nine years ago I decided that having long hair wasn't enough. I
wanted to be stick thin too. After all, you can never be too rich or too thin.
Right? Well
in my case....wrong.
I tried the Optifast/Medifast protein diets that were all the rage when
Oprah lost her first famous 60+ pounds. The pounds peeled off and my body shrank nicely. Then the horrible
hair loss started.
Chunks of my glorious hair started coming out in my hands. I was in
shock. I called my doctor to see what was wrong. They assured me that hair loss was
normal.
I was horrified. I asked my doctor why they didn't warn me. Well, he
said... "would you rather have lots of hair or be really thin". "Lots of
hair" I answered as I threw the Medifast packets in the trash.
I wound up losing about 6 inches because I had to have my hair cut to
even out the hair loss patches. I cried the entire time.
I learned a new lesson. Always make sure you think about the impact to
your hair before you try any new diet.
Home Hair Care Remedies
I also spent hours in the bookstores and the libraries looking for
"home remedies" to help my hair grow back stronger, longer and of course as fast
as possible.
I tried a bunch of home remedies. Most of them smelled horrible, messy and drippy. I am a very determined hair pioneer. So I was determined to try
everything.
I did find a few "home recipes" that seemed to have some
impact on my hair. I am not sure if they made my hair grow back faster. It did
seem, at least to me, to grow in
better. My hair seemed healthier, shinier and stronger.
I have been asked to share a few of the recipes. So here is the first
one that I like. It is basically a protein scalp conditioner. It is important to stimulate
the circulation to the scalp.
This treatment always made my head tingle slightly. Every person will
experience the recipe differently. Keep that in mind. It may not work for everyone.
It is important to follow the recipe exactly. I do not guarantee the results and you must proceed at your own risk.
High Protein Scalp Conditioner
This high-protein, all-natural hair conditioner will help to dislodge
any debris or pollution that may be clogging the tiny openings in your scalp.
This conditioner will also open the tiny openings for better passage of
nutrients into your hair. This scalp conditioner also enriches the hair, helping to make
it stronger and more lustrous.
Blend together, preferably in an electric blender:
- 250 ml (1 cup) fresh skimmed milk
- 1 egg yolk (separated from the egg white)
- 2 capsules of wheat germ oil contents (you may have to open up capsules
& squeeze the contents out)
- 1 tablespoon of fresh wheat germ
- The contents of 1 tablespoon of lecithin granules (you may need to open
capsules)
- 1 tablespoon natural wheat brain (available in bulk also)
Note: You may find all of
the above ingredients at a health food store. It is unlikely that your local grocery store
will carry most of the ingredients other than the milk and eggs.
Instructions
Slowly and firmly massage the mixture into your scalp. Leave the mixture
on for about 10 minutes. If you cover your head with a shower cap or you drape a towel
around your head and lie on a slant board while the conditioner does its work, you will
benefit even more because of the gravity effect.
After 10 minutes, completely rinse conditioner from your hair with
warm (not hot) water. Follow with your usual shampoo and rinse-out, deep or
leave-in conditioner.
I often apply any home hair recipes in the bathroom, wrap my head in a
shower cap, plastic wrap or a towel, then step into a nice aromatherapy bath and soak
for 10-15 minutes. This prevents me from dripping around the house, allows me the luxury of
a nice bath...and makes it easier to just shower when I am finished.
