Summer Hair Care: Simplify & Shimmer

Introduction

White Sand Beach
in
Summer

After a long winter locked indoors, what could be more inviting than the siren song of crashing waves at the beach or splashing at the pool?

Summer sun and fun is always inviting.  Be prepared by getting your locks ready to enjoy the solar rays and surf with minimal damage and maximum dazzle.

Follow these simple rules for fabulous summer tresses:

1.  Start with visit to your hairstylist

Invest in an overall tress tune-up.  Make an appointment to see your stylist for a general Summer maintenance trim.

Have any damaged ends removed and ask for a overall style shape-up to simplify your daily hair care requirements.

2.  Re-evaluate your styling options

Warm weather months beckon for quick styles.  Whether you wish to keep your current hairdo or opt for something sassier, the key is to find a basic style requiring minimal daily blow drying, curling or styling time.

Depending on your natural texture, with the proper cut you can try working a bit of gel through your just-out-of-the-shower damp locks and fingerpick dry for natural waves and curls.

If your texture tends to be straighter, you can play with flirty ponies, slicked back styles or an array of fun braids or buns.

3.  Stock up on moisturizing treatments

While the warmth of the sun may feel wonderful, if you're tresses aren't protected, it may do some long term damage.

Remember to use great leave-in conditioning products designed for your hair's type, texture and condition to help block out damaging solar rays.

Depending on the current condition of your strands, it may be wise to match a rinse out conditioner with a leave-in product after every shampoo.

4.  Schedule deep conditioning treatments

If you plan to spend a lot of time in the surf or in chlorinated water, select a deep conditioning treatment that will add another layer or protection and help minimize potential damage.

5.  Cover up

To maximize the simplification of your Summer hair care regime, do what many celebrities do and consider popping on an array of sizzling headwear and avoid the requirements to crank up protective hair care products.

6.  Shimmer & sparkle

For an easy evening elegance add a tiny dab of your favorite hair polish and brush strands back into a soft flirtatious ponytail.  Adorn with a gorgeous pony elastic or clip a shimmering crystal barrette or set of bobbies on either side.

If you strands are shorter, consider returning to the 1920s and go for a wet-look deep finger wave style which is a go-to celebrity hairstyle.
