Introduction
Blonde hair skillfully bleached into a beautiful platinum white blonde hue looks spectacular when done properly. As someone who has been to cosmetology school and continues to study the art of hairdressing, I believe such an extreme hair coloring process should always be done by a professional hair colorist. At least whenever it if financially or reasonably possible. Regardless of how you achieved your platinum blonde hues, it does require special Tender Loving Care (TLC). Why? Bleached hair tends to be dry to very dry. It can also be brittle, over porous or have split or ripped ends. Bleached hair, except in rare cases will tend to sustain some level of chemical damage. To keep your beautiful platinum blonde hue looking great consider following the maintenance tips below: 1. Shampoo as infrequently as possible. If you feel the need to get hair wet more than once a week, consider cleansing with Conditioner Only (CO), Water Only (WO) or a heavily DO (Diluted Only) shampoo formula. 2. Pre-treat hair, especially the middle and ends with a 100% organic jojoba oil or similar conditioning mixes. 3. Only shampoo with lukewarm to cool water.
4. Make sure hair is completely drenched with water before applying shampoo, CO or DO formulas.
5. Use a shampoo designed to gentle cleanse bleached tresses or use a product designed to maintain the lifecycle of color hair. Keep in mind that violet or blue based shampoo products will neutral brassy or excessively yellow colors. 6. Only apply one shampoo application. Never more than one which can be extra drying. 7. Pour shampoo into the palms of your hands and form into a suds. Allow sudsy water to flow down from the scalps to the ends. 8. Apply a rinse out conditioner. Be careful to never pile wet strands on top of head. 9. Do as Celebrity Hairdresser Ted Gibson recommends and finish with a cool/cold water rinse. 10. Towel blot, do not rub wet strands. 11. Apply a cocktail of leave-in conditioner, defrisant and appropriate styling products (mousse, gel, etc.,). Distribute leave-in cocktail product mix from top of ears down to the ends. Consider using a color enhancing leave-in conditioner. 12. If you'll be using hot tools (curling or flat irons, hot rollers) be sure to apply a heat protection product before using the product. 13. Detangle hair with a wide toothed comb working slowly and carefully from the ends up to the roots.
14. When possible allow tresses to air dry. If you must use a hairdryer consider doing a wet set and sit under a hood dryer set on a lukewarm or cool setting. If you use a blow dryer, set on a slow and cool setting. 15. Once hair is 100% dry make sure the ends are kept moist between wet washes to keep ends from frizzing or splitting. You may wish to apply a serum to protect against frizz and to lock in moisture. 16. Keep ripped ends regularly trimmed to prevent them from spreading up the strands. 17. Schedule regular deep conditioning treatments or hot oil treatments to keep hair soft and moisturized. 18. Build moisture from the inside out by making sure to drink 8-10 glasses of water every day. 19. Make sure to take vitamins and nutrients designed to make hair strong and healthy. Consider adding essential fatty acids (EFAs) as an additional source of moisture. 20. Touch up roots only. Be careful not to overlap roots onto previously bleached hair. SummaryPlatinum blonde hair can look incredibly dramatic, sexy and beautiful. Going platinum definitely will attract lots of new attenction. Although platinum hair can look gorgeous, it's important to treat this delicate hair color with tender loving care. When in doubt work with your professional hair colorist to make sure you have the best recommendations for caring for your beautiful halo of white blonde hair.
