Laser Hair Removal >
Becomes
Medical Procedure In Texas
Hair News For November 25, 2004
There is a growing body of concern about the safety of laser
hair removal treatments. Many laser hair removal
centers today operate without a physician. It is important to be
certain that a board certified physician is on the premises and
available in case of a concern.

Many doctors believe that there is a need for greater regulation
of the laser hair removal industry. Apparently the Texas
Board of medical Examiners are listening to the concerns for the
public's medical safety.
Starting Wednesday, November 24, 2004 laser
hair removal has been redefined by the Texas Board of Medical
Examiners as a " 'medical procedure".
The Texas Board of Medical Examiners
officially declared laser hair removal a "medical procedure"
that must be supervised by a medical doctor.
Some of the concerns involve the safety of topical numbing
preparations which may be used with some types of laser hair
removal treatment. Although topical numbing drugs
are designed to help make laser treatments less painful, there
may be complications. In high concentrations or when not used
appropriately or by an experts, the topical numbing preparations
may be dangerous.
Laser hair removal specialists that are not
physicians, some practicing for the entire time the technology
has existed since the mid 1990s, are crying foul. >
