John Paul DeJoira:  Giving California's Wildlife A Chance

Beverly Hills, CA - The California Wildlife Center (CWC) paid tribute to John Paul DeJoria recently at the annual Wild Hearts gala and auction on November 16th, 2002 with their first annual California Wildlife Free Spirit Awards.

"We have wanted to publicly praise Mr. DeJoira's philanthropy for quite some time," said Board Member Darlene Snow.  The CWC honored John Paul DeJoria, CEO of John Paul Mitchell Systems, for his commitment to preserving wildlife and the environment.  On behalf of John Paul Mitchell Systems and hairdressers everywhere, he has donated thousands of dollars to the CWC to aid them in their mission to provide wildlife rescue and rehabilitation services to injured, sick and orphaned native wildlife in the Santa Monica Mountains region.

The CWC expressed great gratitude and support for John Paul DeJoria's contribution of the 410 acres of land in Tuna Canyon earlier in the year, as well as the John Paul Mitchell Systems cruelty-free pledge.  "Mr. DeJoria's combination of individual charity and corporate commitment is admirable, and we want the community to know that it has not gone unnoticed" said Ms. Snow.

"The California Wildlife Center is one of the premiere environmental organizations on the west coast, said John Paul DeJoria.  "I'm proud to be able to support them financially and happy that they can benefit from my latest donation."

The California Wildlife Center is a registered nonprofit organization providing specialized care for sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife in western Los Angeles county, from Hollywood and Long Beach up the Malibu Coast.

Their mission is to rehabilitate these animals and return them to the wild.  The organization's existing facility includes a medical clinic as well as a number of specialized outdoor enclosures.  They also have an active Education Program that visits local schools to teach young people the importance of wildlife and habitat conservation.

A firm commitment to caring for the earth informs every aspect of John Paul Mitchell Systems policy and strategy.  According to John Paul DeJoria, "Corporations can and should change the world for the better.  We have the perspective needed to leave the world a better place for our having been here."
