Hi Kids! JerkyFlea back again with all the celebrity hair news that's fit
to print...or post...or code into HTML...or something like that. Screw it, let's get to
the good stuff.
OLD NEWS:
None to speak of. Which is a good thing, since I can turn on the "Hot
Hair News Now" sign (with apologies to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts).
THE LATEST:
SARAH
MICHELLE GELLAR, aka "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", has returned
to her roots as a brunette (Don't you hate pseudo-clever comments like that? Yeah, me too.
I apologize for sinking that low). She practically
recreated her "All My Children"/Kendall look for her new movie, "Cruel
Inventions". It also appears that she has de-emphasized the longer layers she had
previously, plus added some red highlights.
FLEA'S CALL: Though I'm partial to brunettes, the dark, one-length look
just doesn't work as well as her blonder, more layered "Buffy" 'do. While she
may not need to go completely blonde again like last season, she ought to at least return
to the long-layered, blonde-streaked style with which she stared the series.
"There's Something About Mary's" CAMERON DIAZ is still
growing her hair out from the short cut she had a couple of years ago. (Side note:
Cameron's hair must grow REALLY slowly since she has already been
lapped by others growing out cropped 'dos such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Lauren Holley. But I
digress.) Anyway, she has recently modified the "transitional" bob she's been
sporting as the layers grow, inexplicably adding more layers, while retaining the length.
FLEA'S CALL: Actually the addition of the layers makes it look like she at least has a
style again, something she has been lacking since starting the growth process. Doesn't
look half bad. However, that doesn't change the fact that she seems to be still in the
process of going toward some style known only to her.
KIMBERLY WILLIAMS of "Father of the Bride", Hallmark
Card commercial, and short-lived ABC series "Relativity" fame was photographed
during Wimbledon on the arm of champ Pete Sampras with a distinctly different style from
the last time we've seen her. <deep breath> If you remember the TV series and her commercials, you know that Kimberly was sporting a very short
pixieish style for a while. Well, it's now grown back out to a layered, wavy,
between-chin-and-shoulder bob, but the BIG difference is that it is now blonde.
FLEA'S CALL: Length is good for Kimberly, since I always thought the pixie, while cute,
was a bit too severe for her. The blonde, however, is questionable (and has nothing to do
with my thing for brunettes). I think she would be better served to go back to her natural
color.
On a side note, the pic I saw also appeared to show that she had plucked her eyebrows
within an inch of their life to the currently ubiquitous thin brow style. Am I the only
one that hates this trend?
JOSIE
BISSET is returning to "Melrose Place" this fall with a new cut. While she was
on the show, she went from short to bob to short to growing out when she left. So what can
we expect this fall? Well, something in between. It's short and layered, kind of like
Sharon Stone's hair if she let it grow for about 6 months, with length on the sides and
back.
FLEA'S CALL: Very cute. It's a great compromise for Josie between her previous short cut
and the bob which never really did anything for her since her hair is rather fine.
THE SCOOP:
Both scoops this week are oddly wig related...

To portray her character in her new movie, "Polish
Wedding", CLAIRE DANES had to don a long wavy/curly blonde wig.

Claire's comment was that she couldn't deal with all
that hair in real life and was glad that she had her short bob.
FLEA'S CALL: At least with the wig Claire HAD a hairstyle. Though Claire's
appeal is lost on me completely, I do think she could be more attractive with a more
flattering cut. What that is, I have no idea. Anyone else?

Another
quick note on CAMERON DIAZ in "There's Something About Mary": To portray Mary at
18, Cameron wore a long blonde wig. Cameron's comment was that when she was
younger, her sister always had long blonde hair so whenever she caught a glimpse of
herself in the mirror, it made her think of her sister.
FLEA'S CALL: Say...uh...Cameron, didn't you have long blonde hair yourself until a year or
so ago? I'm not sure if this is an identity crisis or a sad perpetuation of the dumb
blonde stereotype.
DID YOU KNOW:

Continuing on the wig theme, SIGOURNEY WEAVER has
decided that she will use wigs from now on if her part calls for a major hairstyle change.
After shaving her head for "Alien 3" and having to cut her hair short again to
do re0-shoots for "Copycat" several months
after wrapping, she's had enough. Only down side that I can see is that, in most cases, it
is PAINFULLY obvious when the actor or actress is wearing a wig on screen. Can't say as I
blame her, however, since she seems to have a different style in virtually every movie she
is in. Has to make it nearly impossible to achieve any sense of a personal style when you
don't have any control over your most important accessory, don't you think?
