JerkyFlea: May 1999

Hola and welcome to the new Casa De JerkyFlea.  Well, more like Spare Room De JerkyFlea.  Or, technically, Server Space on Hair Boutique De JerkyFlea.  Whatever.  It just means that this is where I'll be hanging my virtual hat from now on.  A big thanks to Karen and Jeff for having me and the hard work they've done to get this set up.

So what does the move mean?  Well, the column will be a bit shorter, concentrating just on news.  Don't panic, though (like your palms got all sweaty after reading that last sentence).  There should be an extra article/column periodically to give you some of the extra goodies, like what was previously Feature of the Month stuff.  The Scoop section will still come and go as applicable (for example, it ain't in this one) and if you don't get a Did Ya Know? in the column, you'll get it in the interim article.  I can already hear you asking, "What about the contest?".  Well, it's still sorta here, but it's now called Name That Celebrity!, since that's what it always was anyway.  There are some other changes to it as well, but you can find those out when you get there.

By the way, I realize that the new column wasn't done prior to May, even though I said you wouldn't have to wait that long.  I had stuff to do, ok?  Stop berating me.  Tell ya what, I'll send a refund to anyone that wants one.

But enough of my blathering.  As I said in my very first column,  you and I both know that you don't give a rodent's rectal region about my problems as long as I deliver the goods in the form of follicular flashes from famous females.  So on to the good stuff...

Old News

UPDATE: As I said in my Oscar column, The Amazing LIV TYLER Hair Growth Phenomenon continues.  How amazing?  Well, consider the evidence below...

January 21, 1999

February 20, 1999

March 31, 1999

As you can see, Liv's hair has grown about 3 inches since the Sundance Film Festival in January.  Even if you assume that the extra growth in the last picture is due to extensions (though I find getting extensions to gain a mere two inches rather odd), you still have to notice  the growth between January and February and remember that her hair was long enough to pull back at the Oscars.  Pretty darn impressive.

FLEA'S CALL:  Liv looked cute in the pixie she got for "Cookie's Fortune" (currently in theaters), but almost every growing out stage in between has looked rather awkward.  Though I can't explain it, I hope her hair is growing that fast and that she keeps growing it.  Why? All you have to do is look at this month's cover photo to see. J

UPDATE: If you are a faithful reader of JFCHS (and if you're not, gosh darn it, you should be), you'll remember a Did Ya Know? from way back in September of last year on CINDY CRAWFORD.  To catch you up, I reported that at an early modeling photoshoot, Cindy, got her hair cut at the request of the photographer and despite her objections.  At the time, I couldn't find any pictures of Cindy with her very 80s 'do resulting from the surprise haircut, but that didn't stop the emails requesting them.  Well, after looking around a bit more, I actually found a few.

Half the girls in my high school had that bi-level style.  Also, as an added bonus, I've included a couple of better pictures demonstrating just how short Cindy cut her hair about a year ago (from which she has since let it grow back out to below her shoulders).

FLEA'S CALL:  Though it's the same style she's had forever, I really like Cindy in her below the shoulder, long layered style.  It's her trademark style and it just really works for her.   The recent short cut did demonstrate that she can wear it however she desires, however.

UPDATE:As I reported in the last column, HALLE BERRY has let her hair grow out and ditched the Janet Jackson curly extensions she sported while she was doing it.  And, I finally found a decent picture of Halle's growing 'do.   As you can see, it's pretty close to my simulation from last month - an auburn shag with no bangs.

FLEA'S CALL:  As I said before, there really isn't a bad style for Halle.  I really like this one, especially the length and color (which is pretty much everything, isn't it?).  I also liked the red curls, but this one gets preference since it's her actual hair.  It will be interesting to see how much more she lets it grow.
