Miracles Happen : The Life & Timeless Principles Of Founder Of MaryKay
by Mary Kay Ash
Introduction
When I first found this
book I was leery of the contents. Yes, it's true that
I have spent the last 20 years of my life as a naturalized
Texan. I have loved my life in Big D where I have spied a
number of the famous "pink caddies" cruising along the Dallas
Tollway. Although I am not a big fan of lots of cosmetics
I have been collared by pink lady reps at various times in my
history in Mary Kay land.
When I realized that this book
was more about Mary Kay and her philosophies about life and
building a beauty business and less about the formulations of
her lipsticks, I relaxed and really enjoyed the book.
Living in Dallas you hear a lot of underground whispers about
what really went on behind the Mary Kay empire. There has
been a lot of news recently about Mary Kay's son and the power
struggles in the executive suite. Now that Mary Kay has passed
on to that big cosmetics lab in the sky I wonder what she would
think of the company she left behind.
Putting all that political
maneuverings and gossip aside, I was fascinated by some of the
challenges that Mary Kay had to deal with along the way.
She started out as an impoverished little girl with an absent
working mom and an ailing father. Determined to have more
in life she entered sales and dealt with major discrimination
before the term glass ceiling was felt by other career women.
The woman definitely had to deal
with a lot of adversity along the way. However, she never
gave up and fought hard to make her dreams come true.
Anyone who knows anything about the Queen of Pink knows that she
succeeded magnificently not only with her company, but with her
charitable endeavors. She changed the lives of many people
around the world.
This is a very moving story that
completely inspired me and made me realize what an amazing woman
the late Mary Kay really was.
I highly recommend the book for
any woman trying to succeed in business or anyone interested in
the true story of the building of the Mary Kay empire. A
major Kudos From Karen.
