by Christine Moodie

This is a great book that offers all sorts of hairstyling ideas for all sorts of hair. There are great styles that can be worn by everyone from very long hair to short hair. This book is truly versatile and full of new hairstyling ideas.

braidedchignon.jpg (3665 bytes)The author, Christine Moodie is a well-known makeup artist, hair stylist and fashion expert. Her work has appeared in many different magazines. Her 82 page book is one of my all time favorites. Every style in the book from the English braid to a beautiful French Roll variation are presented in beautiful color. The 125 color photographs show excellent detail.

I have often borrowed (with appropriate credit notations) some of Christine's photos from her book in my various Hair Boutique articles. I love how simple, yet elegant many of the styles are. One of my favorites is the Edwardian Knot that is very easy to do but looks stunning when finished.

EdwardianKnot2.jpg (4161 bytes)The Five-Minute Hair Stylist contains a gorgeous collection of 30 different hairstyles which includes everything from a simple twist to a romantic chignon. This is an interesting book because of the variety of styles. There are definite styles for short, medium and long hair.

An example of a great, easy style for short hair is the Marcel Wave. There are complete directions on how to give your hair this great retro look.

The goal of this book is to present styles that most women can create themselves with relative ease and confidence. I think the goals have been met. The styles that are presented are not difficult or tricky in any way.

The book contains excellent instructions that are illustrated with color photos.

Many of the styles are classic looks and the models that are included in the book have different types of hair from thin and thick to wavy and straight.

My current hairstylist resists using photos of hairstyles that are not done on "real people". She believes that the beautiful styles you see in many hair magazines are unrealistic for the average person to recreate. I agree.

So does Christine Moodie.

I highly recommend this book. It is beautiful to look at, has great new hairstyle ideas for all lengths and types of hair and is edited well.

Best wishes,
