Patrick Cameron's Dressing Long Hair
by Patrick Cameron & Jacki Wadeson
One day, several months ago, I got an email from a Hair Boutique visitor in Europe
asking me if I had seen Patrick Cameron's book on Dressing Long Hair. Not only had I not
seen the book, I had not even heard of Patrick Cameron.
I did a search on bookpages.co.uk to discover that the Cameron book
was published by MacMillan Press in London. Somehow I tracked the book down, ordered and
waited anxiously to see what this long hair book was all about.
When the book arrived after about 2 weeks, I immediately tore off the wrapper and
stopped and looked at the entire book. I felt like a kid with a giant secret. Here was an
incredible book with some of the most stunning updos and long hair styles that I had ever
seen, and hardly anyone knew about it. It was my little secret.
After about 48 hours of knowing I had found one of the best books on hair I had ever
seen, I decided to share it with the Hair Boutique visitors. Only one problem. The book
was hard to come by and could not be ordered through Amazon.com. I considered trying to
sell the book directly but that seemed like an impossible task.
So I gave up and decided to hang on to the book and see what the future would bring.
The future arrived recently when Amazon.com bought bookpages.co.uk. I could not believe my
eyes when I received the announcement.
Without further ado I am going to knock your socks off with information on this book
and three stunning photo examples of what this book is all about. If you can beg, borrow
or steal the money to buy this book, do it. You will never regret it.
About Patrick Cameron
Patrick Cameron is a top international hair stylist known for his gorgeous styles and
his work with long hair. This book, Dressing Long Hair has over 450 specially commissioned
full colour photographs. The book is a true work of art that will take your breath away.
When I first received this gorgeous work I tried to pick the photographs of the hairdos
that I liked best.
Example Photographs
For the purposes of this review I settled on three styles that I absolutely love. The
three winning styles were the Edwardian Roll, the Coil and the Top Roll.
Altogether there are 29 different gorgeous hairdos designed for medium to long hair.
Most of these looks would not work with hair that was shorter than collarbone. They
actually work best with hair that is between the collarbone and the middle of the back.
Each of the 29 different styles included detailed, color steps that show Patrick
creating each style every step of the way. The photos are large and the individual detail
of each step is clear. I have tried many of the styles on my own hair and have decided to
have my stylist do some of the others for me.
The Elegant Edwardian Roll
I don't know what is more beautiful with this sample
hairstyle, the flowers or the actual do. The combination of colors and the placement along
the roll are exquisite. I looked at this photo for a very long time to burn it into my
memory. This hairstyle would work for a bride, a queen, a movie star or just someone
wanting to put on the glam.
The Edwardian Roll would be perfect for a Victorian inspired gown. It can also be made
to look more modern. Any type of flowers or jewels would look wonderful.
The Edwardian Roll has 11 steps that you must follow. This style would probably require
some assistance since there are basically three rolls that must be balanced and placed
just so. The top of the roll is finished off with a flourish of a pin curl that is placed
at the top of the roll.
The Coil
This style looks
complicated but it only requires 7 steps. I was not able to do this style by myself, but
any stylist should be able to duplicate the do in no time. Patrick thoughtfully includes
very helpful hints on how to do all the coiling and twisting of the hair. The instructions
are completed illustrated in color with lots of details. This is a hairstyle that looks
absolutely stunning with or without jeweled hairpins. It would look great for a bride,
bridesmaid or just for a very formal event. Unfortunately Patrick does not tell you where
you can buy the beautiful pearlized hairpins. This style would also look stunning with
tiny baby's breath tucked into it.
The Top Roll
This
style has 16 steps that are all illustrated in color showing Patrick actually creating
this incredible halo of hair that is set off with a tiara. This is a perfect bridal style
as well as a perfect hairstyle for any dressy event. I actually tried the steps and
although I didn't like the look on my face shape, I was able to duplicate Patrick's steps.
I can't give away any of Patrick's steps because of copyright restrictions, but I can give
you a hint and tell you that Patrick uses three ponytails to create the ultimate look.
Summary
I could babble on for hours about this book. I can tell you that Patrick Cameron is
renowned for his work with long hair, shares his incredible talent with the hair care
industry by presenting his ideas at hair shows and seminars around the world and knows all
the secrets of long hair. I can also tell you that besides the three photos I have shown
you this book is stuffed full of some of the most stunning hairstyles your eyes will ever
see.
There is nothing else for me to tell you but to buy this book. Don't wait, the book is
2 years old and may not last forever. I have already ordered a backup copy in case
something happens to my original.
Enjoy and be prepared to lust after this hair.
