Introduction

This book is hard to find. I saw it the first time right after it was published back in 1996 but I neglected to purchase it because it cost over $30 and I felt that the price was a little steep. The Barnes & Noble where I saw Perm Waving Styles had only one copy. I figured I could go back and buy it later.

No such luck. I went back a few weeks later and it was gone. I forgot about the book until a few months ago when I spotted a copy at the Powell's bookstore in Portland, Oregon. I snapped it right up. It was in the new section so I had to pay full price but it was worth every penny of the $31.95 that I paid.

This is a great book if you are interested in perms. It is published by Milady Publishing which is one of my favorite publishers for great hair books.

The interesting thing about Perm Waving Styles is that it is actually two books.

There is the beautiful full color hard copy book with 57 pages of gorgeous color photos of hair and there is the black and white "booklet" with the details of each of the 57 different color photos.

The black and white booklet fits neatly into the hard copy book and it is a wonderful package of perming information. The companion booklet contains a numbered photo and name of each of the models in the hard copy book.

However, the booklet contains all the details of how the final permed look was accomplished.

This information about creating each perm contains the following details:

  • The Cut
  • The Lengths of the hair
  • The Perm (The Style Frame)
  • Type of Movement Desired
  • Rod Selection
  • Additional Rods or Techniques
  • Detailed Steps of how to position the rods.

Line and figure drawings are in major abundence.

Here are a list of the Perm Styling Techniques that are included in major detail in this wonderful book:

  • Long standard Rods for a zig-zag perm design
  • Circle Designer Rods for free-form undulation
  • Cellophane Pizzaz for interest and diversified texture
  • Standard and Spiral Rod Mix for versatility

PermWave2.jpg (3286 bytes)I must tell you that this is probably the best book on perm techniques that have ever seen. Each style has great photos to show the results. The photos are in color and large enough toPermwave4.jpg (2654 bytes) show the detail of the perm. Each perm is shown from more than one angle.

If you are interested in having a perm or just interested in reading about perms, this book is a must buy. If you see it somewhere, grab it.

Otherwise, it is still possible to order the book from Amazon.com.

Once again, Milady has outdone themselves and produced a fabulous book crammed full of all sorts of great information on perm and waving techniques.

Enjoy!
