The Silver/Gray Beauty Book
by Tony Ray, Angela Hynes
This great book is no longer in print. However, I have seen a few copies
floating around from time to time. If you are lucky enough to spot one I strongly
recommend that you grab it. I just love this book written by Tony Ray and Angela hynes
because it is written with a focus on the special needs of women who have chosen to
celebrate their silver/gray hair.
This book has silver/gray beauty secrets from California's exclusive la Costa
Health Spa and Resort. I was really impressed with the great before-and-after makeovers on
women who are not models, but everyday people. Makeup and clothing is recommended to
offset the beautiful gray and silver hair shades that are highlighted.
There are some drawbacks to this book. One of the main drawbacks is that all of
the photos are black and white. This is not so terrible considering the topic is dealing
with silver and gray colors. However, it would be nice to see the makeovers photos, both
the before and after, in color. The other drawback I found is that the Hair section is
only one part of the book. I assumed that most of the book would deal with hair. Yes, hair
plays a major part if the overall silver/gray concept, but there is still less hair
information that I would like. I think the cover jacket is somewhat misleading in this
vain.
The best thing about the book, which was published in 198, is that Tony Ray
strongly recommends gray/silver haired women from following any societal rules about the
length of their hair. He even mentions that long hair can be just as beautiful and
flattering on a gray haired woman as short. In fact, he makes a case for the fact that
really short hair can look too severe on an older woman. Hurrah for Mr. Ray.
The conclusion that Mr. Ray makes about hair for silver/gray haired and older
woman is to select the style and length that is right for them whether it is long, short,
pulled back, layered or up in a bun. This is a very informative book dedicated to the
beauty and hair requirements of older women especially those with gray/silver hair who
don't wish to cover up the gray. This is a great book. I enjoyed it a lot.
