Alopecia Areata : Understanding and Coping With Hair Loss
by Wendy Thompson, Jerry Shapiro
Several years ago I went on a very radical liquid diet to achieve "thin body"
nirvana. Unfortunately my hair got very thin along with my body. I had to have several
inches cut off the bottom of my hair. I went on a major quest to discover how to get my
hair back. Thankfully my hair loss was only temporary as a result of my bizarre starvation
diet. (No..I will NEVER do that again) After restoring my body nutritionally and using
lots of hot oil massages and Aveda's Deep Conditioner....my hair grew back.
My personal experience with temporary hair loss was one of the biggest nightmares of my
life. Because of that experience I am always looking at the latest Hair Loss Books to
determine if there is new research. Sadly this condition seems to be on the increase
because of the added stress of the 90s. This disease is not selective. Princess Caroline
of Monaco recently suffered with a sudden bout of hair loss. Fame and money does not spare
you from this disease either.
This 1996 book covers all the information about this condition. It also provides all
the latest research which is very interesting. I really liked the fact that the book had a
section for children. While more people are aware that women as well as men can suffer
from this condition, many people are still not aware that children can suffer from it as
well. It is even more devastating for children. This book covers all the facts.
I think this book is well written and offers a good mix of information which includes
new insights on the disease, new drug therapies, experimental treatments and general
coping techniques. I recommend this book for anyone with this condition.
Regards.
