Instant Style : 500 Professional Tips on Fashion, Beauty, and Attitude

by Emily Cho, Neila Fisher

Emily Cho and Neila Fisher are considered by many to be some of the foremost image consultants in America today. They have written a book that includes 500 beauty secrets, professional tricks and fashion tips for the woman of the 90s.

A lot of the tips are very obvious. I wonder if most women don't already know that jewelry with a bathing suit is inappropriate and that high heels with shorts is also a bad idea. While the book does have 500 tips, a lot of them are old tips that have been around for a long time.

There are hair tips included in the book. However, they are not contained in a special hair section. All of the hair tips are mixed in with all the other tips. I did not find any new hair tips that I had not heard before. For example, the authors tell you in their Tip 239 to use a cotton ball with hair spray to swab down any unruly hair growths along your hairline.

Tip 210 tells you that if your face is your best asset, wear a great haircut. Finally, Tip 124 tells you if you have dark hair to wear black shoes and light hair, taupe shoes.

While these are nice tips, they are nothing new in my book. Maybe I have been around too long or have ready too many fashion magazines. Whatever the reason, I did not find a lot of value in this book. This is a little book that could easily fit into your purse or briefcase for some light reading. Don't expect to get any great new beauty ideas unless you just landed on Earth from Mars.

Regards,
