Take Off 10 Years in 10 Weeks
by Judith Wills
Based on this book, every woman has the potential to look good and feel great well into
middle age and beyond. Author Judith Wills tries to provide an easy way to realize that
potential. This book combines Wills's own expertise in physical fitness with tips from
exercise trainers, nutritionists, hair and fashion specialists, and a host of other
professionals, in a well-rounded approach to shedding both the inner and outer signs of
aging.
At first glance this book appears to have all the answers to looking younger, feeling
younger and acting younger with 24 different workshops that include slimming plans,
exercises, makeup, skin and hair care. There are over 120 different color photos and
diagrams to illustrate the different workshops.
Now for the bad news. To look younger, the author, Judith Wills believes that you have
to cut your hair. Bottom line, Judith indicates that younger equals shorter hair. There
are two sections of the book that prove my theory about Judith. Both the chapters on Hair
Flair 1 and Hair Flair 2 point to shorter locks.
I was appalled by this hair cutting trend since I personally plan on never cutting my
long locks. Page 66 of the book starts by taking inches off of Kay who is 49 and has
"bra length" hair. Ms. Wills enlists the help of hairstylist Paul Edmonds to
help Kay get a "younger look". The "younger look" consists of removing
what Edmonds classifies as the "curtain effect" of long hair on the sides of the
face. Edmonds does provide the helpful tip to sweep long hair on top of the head.
Forty year old Angela is spared the loss of inches that Kay had. Instead of a major
trim, Angela gets an upswept do. Even with the upsweep, Mr. Edmonds trimmed and thinned
Angela's hair. Personally I think Angela looks better in the "before" pictures
with her soft hair flowing to her shoulders.
I must admit that I did like the Condition Update section on page 75. Good solutions
are provided for dealing with fizzy hair, problems with product buildup and coarse hair
that develops with age. Page 74 has some great advice about gray hair.
This is an overall good book to buy when looking at advancing age. I would recommend
that all the information on hair length be seriously evaluated before you follow it.
I think that women of any age can look fabulous with longer hair. I am not sure that
this book agrees.
