Making Up by Rex : Beauty for Every Age Every Woman

Making Up by Rex : Beauty for Every Age Every Woman

by Rex Hilverdink, Diana Lewis Jewell

This is a book that has been around for over many years. I should know....it has been sitting on my bookshelf at home for most of those years. Rex is the famous makeup genius behind dozens of Vogue covers. He also worked with scores of international beauties. This book of 100 drawings demonstrates how every woman from 18 to 80 can make the most of her looks with a step-by-step, fully illustrated guide to personalized makeup.

I enjoyed this book when I first bought it and I enjoyed it when I recently pulled it off my bookshelf to review it. Rex offers makeup tips for all types of women. Not just gorgeous ones. He also takes into consideration hair color and style. This is of importance to me since my first focus is always on the hair. A lot of people will worry first about their makeup and then their hair. I always do the reverse. I worry that my hair looks good, then I worry about the makeup.

I like the fact that Rex balances both the hair and the makeup. He provides examples of women with white hair, black women, women with glasses and a variety of other unusual types of women. He also categorizes women according to the shapes of their faces. However, his categories are related to planets such as the Sun, Moon, Mars and Saturn. I found his different examples intriguing and interesting.

I would recommend this book because it still provides some new ideas that can be adopted for the current times. It is interesting to note that Kevin Aucoin's The Art of Makeup (see my review) is the 90s version of this first book by Rex.

Enjoy!
